So you're lying in a field and you hear heavy breathing....

I can see a quick way of filling your freezer there!

Seriously, if there are any trees where your fox's patch is, wait up a tree or a straw stack, they never look up, neither do rabbits. Plus you are free from the attention of your bovine fan club. Trees admittedly are not the most comfortable of hides, but I have fell asleep on top of a strawstack before now!

You should've had em with an airgun, just behind the ears - Drop like a stone they do.

Grolloch 'em on the spot and yer weekend barbie's sorted, with enough left over for a handbag for the wife!

would you reckon 177 or 22  and when gutted do you need to hang a cow for a few days before eating?? :/

.177 every time, we shoot them regularly at up to 200 yards, and we don't need back-stops, as there's usually another cow behind if the pellet goes straight through.

Cor! I want one of them, a bloke down the pub has got one with a 22 spring in it, he said that last week he shot at a cow, missed it, and the bullet circumnavigated the world and hit him in the butt.

i have got a healthy respect (fear!) for cows- i was once very nearly trampled by herd-- i was under a tree in the middle of a field, when a couple of cows started staring.. then gradually the herd stopped and starting watching me, up to this point i wasnt bothered at all, then a couple started running at me! i had to leg it accross the field and jump the nearest gate , i had to chuck my rifle over the gate, wth the herd where right behind me... i dont mind admitting that cows now make me very nervous!! i explained this to the farmer and he laughed and said they could sense my fear!!(smell it more like) hats off to you for sitting there surrounded by them

I would've normally sat in the woodline but this particular fox had been passing through between 2 mounds in the field so this was the only way i could get him.

Pegasus - the farmer is definatly correct, if you run they will run after you! but when they get to you they will usually stop! as for the bulls they are usually just trying to size you up but if you stand you're ground they will usually losse interest!

The particular bovine that is sniffing the barrel was the pest as it wanted a front view! usually they run off as soon as I pull the trigger.
