Thumpersniper
Just had my visit, was a month exatly after posting so very happy with that. The bloke seemed nice and we are going to be in contact soon over applying for an FAC, He said he could save me £50 quid by hanging on to my SGC for a week while i sort out an FAC quickley then they could be cotermenous as he thought i had reason to have one. But i thought over £50 il just get the SGC seeing as its sorted then do the FAC after as mid lambing/calving and up to my neck in uni essays so not much time to sort it. Looking forward to the SGC now, chop chop royal mail! Thanks to Dyfed Powys Police. P.S does anyone have a 20g hushpower and/or a nice side by side 12g i can buy please? (when the cert comes!) Bombadil
Sent the letter off 20 days ago for my SGC. Did not hear anything from them so i gave them a call to day, the lady said it had been received, i hoped but she would expand on that and give me an approximation on when it would be processed but sadly not. Darren north east
Had my visit this morning. civilians do it, who knew? Not sure how it went they didn't give any clue either way. told me they will be in touch in about two weeks. oh well.
dapper
Mine only took about 4 - 5 weeks in total from handing in the application. Had the visit, then 2 weeks exactly I received the SGC through the door. That was by Maidstone Police so overall I would say a great service. I will be soon applying for an F.A.C I dont know if they will be as quick. Lets hope so. Dave
Warlock
Maidstone are very very very good, from when your interview happens they are currently on a 2 - 4 week turnaround to get your licence to you.
raistrick
Wiltshire Police: About a week from sending off the forms for call about visiting... sadly I made him wait 2 weeks over the visit. Another week after the visit to get the certificate. GREAT JOB.
jammie*dodger
Sent my forms in less than 2 weeks ago. Had a call today - was I free for a chat at Lunchtime? Popped home for the visit and all done. SGC should be through the post in 2 weeks or so. Well done Cambridgeshire police force.
JonD
I sent my forms etc off to Thames Valley about 6 weeks ago. I called them earlier in the week and was advised they have written to my GP, until the response is received they can't do anything further :9 From what i have read it can take 3-4 months for a GP to respond to a letter grrrrrrr, hopefully it won't be that long. edr
Lincolnshire 8.75 / 9 months. I am 13 we have CCF at school, in our armoury we have semi automatic .223's (40) .22's (20) and a few LSW's (fully auto .223) . They rang up my school and said we see you have weapons onsite for the students to use; but could we confirm the policy on students having shotgun certrificates. ? I am sure that the only semi auto rifle you can have on an fac is .22 calibre, as well as i am aware all centre fire semi autos were banned after the hungerford incident, and i am sure any full auto rifle, would be illegal it should make no difference if a student has a SGC or not and it should be nothing to do with the school if you apply for a SGC or not, as long as you don't bring it in to the school for a bit of "show and tell" or show off to your mates with it. with a SGC or FAC comes a lot of responsability and it should be respected along with the guns capabilities

Hmmm i very much doubt you have semi auto .223, the closest you could get is a .223 that is a straight pull but has the action crippled to prevent semi auto fire. As for a full auto .223 that is even more unlikely.

Blunderbuss
Gloucestershire - about 5 weeks. I did chase them up a bit and they were always helpful and courteous. I was told after a couple of weeks that it was with the local FEO. I tried to phone him a few times but he was often in court, busy etc. When I did catch up with him, he quickly arranged a visit and my certificate arrived a week later. He was a nice guy and explained that as well as FEO for quite a big area he also did other duties (public order, search team etc) so had his hands full doing all the paperwork and enquiries. I think the police are weighed down with bureaucracy and paperwork these days, and usually try to do their best in the circumstances Having said that, if I'd had to wait the 5 months plus some on here have experienced, I'd have a less favourable view!
