JamesFearn
Hi all, I have a question that has probably been asked a million times but just wanted some friendly info to ease my mind. I'm in the process of applying for my SGC but am a little worried about a few convictions I had when I was younger, all of which were motoring offences. I have had a couple of convictions for speeding (SP50, SP30) and a conviction for driving without due care and attention (CD10) all back in the day (5 years ago plus) that I am a little worried about. My license is now clean! Should I be worried? As the cliche goes I have grown up a hell of a lot over the past 5 or 6 years since my convictions and have had no further troubles whatsoever. I've done the sensible thing and bought a house, a car, have a family and a dog etc etc etc. I'm also in the process of application for the TA. Is this all taken into account and does that make me more suitable for an application or is it along the lines that "you sir were a naughty boy and thats that!"? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

ozzy518
Mate, I know of people who are far higher up the naughty list than you who have got both SGC and FAC.. Your previous only consists of motoring offences so I wouldnt worry. Just be sure to declare everything. 955i
Don't panick, I have motoring convictions and they were mentioned to confirm them during the FEO's visit but didn't cause any issue with the application.
libs
+5 years ago and motoring, No problems at all! As i said before to someone, If it was Airgun in a public place last week then maybe not. Make sure you buy a BIG safe, if you get a small one you will regret it when its full. JamesFearn
Thanks for your positive replies everyone. I will be totally honest as theres no point in not being. Plus as a couple of you have mentioned they are "minor" convictions is suppose. As long as I dont tell the FAO i think the convictions were "minor" im sure i'll be ok. Have already bought a Brattonsound 6/7 Rifle Vault so hopefully it will take a little time before I fill it up! Thanks again.
viking
when i applyed for nine i couldnt remember dates and convictions from when i was younger, not that there was a lot, so i put down what i could remember and wrote a note saying as i cant remember please refere to your own records, just to cover myself, i went to court 3 years ago accused of gbh but it was deopped in the end, i got a letter from the chief constable telling me that cos of it he nearly didnt allow my license, a little unfair to say i was totaly inocent and didnt get done for it, yet it could still of counted against me, with what you have done wrong i think you would be ok, unless your driving without due care and attention ended up with you backing your motor into the shop window of comet lee

LEFTY478
Don't forget the masonic handshake and brown envelope. Job done squire. When the FEO asks if you shoot with friends and if so, where do you meet? You meet upon the 'level' (and part upon the square). This may be more useful than you realise. njc110381
I have robbery with violence and a years sentence.LB What did you put on you application in the "where will the firearm be used" section? HSBC? As long as you're honest and have been a good boy for a few years you shouldn't have a problem. I thought my record was bad until I read the above Edited January 16, 2009 by njc110381
