shots fired which would have been slugs at a fast moving target so you can understand the misses. The guide who would have been one of the shooters are usually pretty good shots. Just goes to show what can happens when your hunting something that can eat you. Makes shooting rabbits look a little tame :good:

just seems wrong......as leopards are on the "near threat" list (meaning their numbers are dwindling)

Not where my PH lives in SA on the Limpopo. He's licenced to shoot 12 leapards a year and does although he stalks them with a shotgun as the bush is so dense having a rifle is pointless it's all close quarters stuff AND when you're out after leopard they are hunting you. He has the scars to prove it! $10000 is the usually rate so you don't just need balls you need cash!

Notice the poor African tracker armed only with an axe :good:

Its the whole shooting and conservation argument, while they are worth 10K to shoot the locals will look after them as for them all they do is kill them and their animals. The same argument goes for most big game, and with big game they don't always fall over at the first shot whatever size gun you're using.

was that noise the cat or the bloke though, sounded a lot like my cat when the dog gets hold of it :good:

Did not like that at all.

I hope the hunter got an infection from the claws.

I only shoot with air but make sure its head! this was not nice. SAD.

So do you think you could shoot a charging Leopard in the head with an air rifle or a centrefire? :welcomeani:

I doubt it somehow.

Let's be fair about this, the guys were doing their best to finish off a wounded animal...just like we all do (hopefully).

With that thing charging towards them at that speed through tall grass, it's not surprising that they missed it.

Ignorance is definitley one of shootings biggest enemies. The average anti would say the same about fluffy rabbits and foxes, though they only eat crops or lambs and chickens. Rather than as does happen in Africa the farmers cows or if he is really unlucky him.

I don't suggest for a second that culling big game over there should be stopped, I just think people that do it have more money than sense, and must have very empty lives.

There is no sport in shooting elephants, leopards or whatever from a blind..... especially just for the bragging rights.

I do appreciate that the industry pump large volumes of money (and fresh meat) into local communities, but still, its a little bit heartless all the same.

Surely the video demonstrates the sporting aspect, you're hunting something thats dangerous to you fluff the shot and you can get killed. Thats where the exhileration is, sporting wise its probably comparable to shooting a deer from a high seat but without the issue if you get it wrong. Cost wise well you can blow the same money on a days driven shooting if you go to the right place, but what you won't have is instances when they kill an elephant the meat usually goes to feed a local village who usually badly need the meat. Theres a lot more to it than meets the eye
