toka_shigazu
hi..you would need to apply for a variation to get one...speak with your flo, they will usually give good advice. you will have to show why you need one and that you have gained enough experience to show that you can be trusted with one. i waited until my renewal when my force will automatically give me it after 5 years...the flo who did the home visit saw how much ammo i had gone through and said i could have applied for an open ticket years ago and it would have been given on the grounds that i was shooting very often and also that i had a lot of permissions in england, wales and scotland that were new sites and i think, reading between the lines, it would have been easier for them to give me an open ticket than do all the enquiries??? any way i waited till now and have my open for .22lr. scout
Down this way it is automatically opened on renewal, it will be done at 3 years by application, or straight away if you complete the DSC1 course. Although I do know some chaps who have had it open from day 1 , same force , same FEO, must have just been someone pressing the wrong keys on a computer somewhere. vmobiler1
Is there a stardard sort of letter or could someone point me in the right direction as what to put in a letter to the FLO to apply for an open ticket?
casts_by_fly
I don' tknow about a 'standard' letter, but when I wrote them I explained that I would like to have the condition changed to read "on ground where holder has permission to shoot" and eliminated the clause "and has been approved by the chief of police". I explained my reasons and they felt them to be valid. I'd suggest you do the same. Why do you want your ticket to be opened? What support can you give to the FLO to make him comfortable in doing so? Thanks, Rick

Thanks, Rick I want to do a letter for my dad to get his on an open cert as he has lots of land and gets offered more all the time but has a closed ticket. He has been shooting for the last 50yrs or so and had a FAC for about 14 years now, I`m pretty sure he has enough experience and knowledge to be allowed an open ticket. But I am unsure of what to put and how to word a letter. Any help would be great Thanks VmobileR1
vmobiler1
Don't take this the wrong way but if you cant think of how to ask for/justify having one, why should they give you one? I think I have justified it in my last post but I was asking for asistance with writting the letter not really for you to help me justify it. I bet if we all had to justify and write a letter instead of filling in an application form for an fac alot of people just wouldn`t do it. No offence taken but i think you have hold of the wrong end of the stick matey. Edited March 23, 2009 by vmobiler1
lowlander
i was going to try and get one because i am trying to do pest control as a job and it would be alot easier for me if i could class the land as suitable or unsuitable myself instead of having to contact the police to come and check them all the time. lowlander Edited March 23, 2009 by lowlander
markbivvy
hi..you would need to apply for a variation to get one this is new on me. A simple letter telling them your side of it should do. I want to do a letter for my dad to get his on an open cert as he has lots of land and gets offered more all the time but has a closed ticket. He has been shooting for the last 50yrs or so and had a FAC for about 14 years now, should not have to explain anything here,YOUR DAD should just ask. Dunkield
hi..you would need to apply for a variation to get one...speak with your flo, Not so. To the others on this thread, as with all things FAC you just need 'good reason' I applied for mine after a chat with my FEO, I had used plenty of ammo and was turning down shooting opportunities on land I knew wasn't cleared. It was case of putting that into writing and sending a letter off with my FAC, it came back 3 days later with the restriction removed. GatGun
I didnt have to pay to get mine altered.... so I dont think its classes as a variation
Jonno243
If its a first time new applycation forget about a open ticket my FLO told me to wait about 2 yrs then go for a open ticket Not strictly speaking true. It is all dependant on the issuing force and level of previous experience with firearms. I have had an open ticket since day one, something I never thought to request at the time. Jonno.
