markb
my computer is running like a bag of nails, it's slow it locks up and takes ages to start up once switched on, it's windows xp I use firefox and I'm working out ways to attach it to my clay trap, I would truly get a great deal of satisfaction from hitting it with a large, heavy hammer, I hate this machine, just so you know. Thank you and good night..

Billy.
Reinstall windows. It needs doing every couple of years on computers, as they eventually come to a grinding halt.

paul1966
Reinstall windows. It needs doing every couple of years on computers, as they eventually come to a grinding halt. I'll second the above, after a while windows just gets bogged down and needs a fresh re-install.

wildgoose1uk
Sounds like time for a reformat and reinstall. Do you have all the program disks you need?
Dunkield
Unless you have a mega expensive, or fairly recent setup, it may be more beneficial to buy a new PC than re-install your OS and all the programs.
Bleeh
Unless you have a mega expensive, or fairly recent setup, it may be more beneficial to buy a new PC than re-install your OS and all the programs. New computer = £400 OS re-install = 1 hour. To be honest, I'd give it a go - I've done it a dozen times for various reasons (making computers and such) and you'll be amazed what a clean sweap can do. Other than that, give ''C-Cleaner'' a go, it's another free program, but it deletes various useless files (cookies, caches, etc) and will clear up around 400mb-10gb of memory space depending on how much stuff you have on your computer (the program size is only about 1mb big, too). wildgoose1uk
I agree - although I htink one hour is a bit ambitious, especially if you have loads to back up first. If you do reformat be sure to boot form the cd and don't run the installation from within windows.

vole
I would do a thorough bug sweep with a good anti spyware program then C Clean it not to mention a virus scan. Go into Control Panel then Add/Remove program and delete anything that has no business in there . Disc Defrag also worth a go. My mate succeeded in causing his nearly new pc to grind to a halt because of the sheer volume of stuff he had on it. Get it running lean and mean. Best of luck.
