jpw99
Hi all, As a newbie old timer i would be very interested to know what type of vehicle you guys use to transport your gigantic load of kit to the shoot. The wife is giving me hell for just folding down the rear seats, never mind filling the car the the roof on our one year old toyota hatch. She says i should have bought a van, and i am seriously thinking of buying another vehicle just for shooting and fishing use. I must admit that those narrow farm tracks do tend to raise the blood pressure when thinking about that nice shiny paintwork  All input appreciated. Cranfield
I use a Toyota Surf Import, but the Mitsubishi Pajero, or Isuzu Longhorn Imports are also very good......................................and cheap !!!!!!!!
dunganick
grey import pajaro short wheel base, or a pinnin, that would do me fine, i hear the little suzuki sj's are meant to be pretty handy. im still dragged around for another 6months or so, so i have to put up with a subaru legacy outback 3.0R 05 and a TVR griffith 4.0 hard times  ........ but i think i can live with it for 6months longer

ernyha
I have had a Pajero SWB import over 5 years now and apart from having to put a new rear silencer on it, I haven't had to get my hands dirty on it apart from the odd service. Great motor in the field and on the road.
hill billy
hay dunqunick is your tvr a griffith 500 model because if it is have a look at the back lights and if you know your cars then you should be able to tell that they are the rear light off of a ford fiesta mk3 but turned up side down, in which case you will save your self no end of money buying the ford parts rather than the tvr ones its stupid i know but it may save you some money. jpw99
Thanks for taking the time to vote and the varied feedback lads. It looks like the ask the audience question results in a 4x4 coming out on top. So then Chris, for 1 million pounds my final answer is a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Cheers jpw99 Jim the geordie

hill billy
Thats the only problem its carryer bags at the ready when loading up my car, my uncle the lucky *** has a three wheeled atv an a1 land rover and a range rover all just used for shooting. we had a guy come in with a discovery the other day and i just fell through the floor when i sore it but any way it was a camel cup trophy land rover and you buy a discovery give it to camel along with about £60,000 and they make it one fit to enter the challenge.it has every thing all the suspention is doubled up every thing has guards on it, it has three diffrent types of sat nav and gps and the guy was selling it for £9000 but that was partly due to the fact that his wife roled it and cracked the engine bay in half Edited June 1, 2005 by hill billy
Country_est
Run a Frontera 4x4 (I know its almost worse than a Lada Niva). Problem is a days shooting could be 300 miles Motorway and A roads with 300yd off road. Used to use a Sierra 4x4 estate but after it was totalled I tried to use the 4x4 Mondeo Hatch but the room in the back just wasnt big enuf nor the ground clearnce enf. So went looking for a disco or rangie and ended up with a frontera. Prices were simmilar for 10 year old Disco, 11 year old rangie and a 2year old Frontera. Having had it for 3 years I can almost see why as bits are starting to fall off or stop working. But then again I hear its the same for the rovers. Fisherman Mike
I use a 95 maverick LWB 2.7 TD for my country pursuits.. The 5 rear seats are folded and I have a PVC load liner installed. It takes all my fishing gear and a sleeping bag and two wet Spaniels if the weather cuts up. Ive added a lift kit for extra 3ins of ground clearance and off road springs with new gas HP shocks, The alloys are fitted with Avon AT tyres and it goes anywhere off road any other 4 x 4 does and more places than many. The 2.7 TD is a nissan unit which is good for 300 k plus, so mine is not yet run in at 70K. The lump and running gear is bullet proof and reasonably simple to work on. There are quite a few Mavericks and Terranos about and they are very good value. FM.
Malc
I run a Discovery and a Daihatsu 4x4. I find the Disco is by far the best, not the least because it is actually 4 wheel drive, all the time, on all surfaces. I can't be doing with switching into 4 then switching back to 2 wheel drive every time you touch a hard surface, back into 4 for mud/snow/ice. Reverse to unlock the hubs or get out and do it manually. No, been there, done that. I think Nissan have just introduced a Pathfinder which is permanent 4x4. I might give that a look over.
