Wookie
Nice one Pav. All you need to do now is walk into a shop and announce in a loud voice: "Sell me a .243 with all the bells and whistles". Just make sure it's a gun shop and not Debenhams. MC
Pav, What you need is a custom built rifle. I suggest a RPA quadlite action and trigger with a border barrel (Twist to suit your choice of ammo). Stock wise probably a macmillan fibreglass job. Scope and mounts are your choice but either a Swaro or S & B. Something like this one
Mungler
Whatever you buy, buy it already screwcut. I would suggest a brand new CZ synthetic (screwcut). Can't do wrong for the money and built for the job.

Baldrick
I like your RPA suggestion, MC, bearing in mind Pavman's fabulous wealth. You could muck about with a genuine custom rifle, but why bother when RPA does the job so well? I would put a Zeiss on it, however.

moses
The RPA's a great idea but, i'd go for the interceptor multi shot instead; http://www.rpainternational.co.uk/intercep...ishot_rifle.asp And I would put a Z6i on it, Zeiss is very good glass but I don't like the 2nd image plane rets as most of them are. MC
Pav, If you want to try an RPA then let me know. I have it's bigger brother in a quadlock in 7.62 x 51mm and you cannot go wrong. British made and superb quality.

Vectra26
I'll vouch for RPA, I've fired the RangeMaster 7.62 and .50, and the Interceptor Multishot in 7.62. Very impressive rifles.
njc110381
I wouldn't want an RPA for field use. They're a bit tactical looking. Why not get a nice high grade Sauer 202 or something pretty like that? Maybe this..... http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/Det...+356&Filter[NewType][]=Rifle&Filter[NewMechanism][]=Bolt%20Action&Filter[Calibre][]=.
MC
Tactical looking? Did you look at the link I posted? they don't look any different to any other rifle. Yes they do make tactical rifles but they are not all like it. You can put the action and barrel in whatever stock you want. You are then not restricted to having what a manufacturer thinks is correct for everyone.
al4x
Pav I thought you didn't shoot over 200 yards which any old .243 should do with ease
Baldrick
The RPA hunting rifles look every bit as refined and elegant as a Sauer 202 (from my perspective as a Sauer owner).
njc110381
MC. For a minute I thought you had me there as I didn't look at the link. When I got there though it was the one I was picturing in my head (so luckily I'm not left feeling stupid today!). I'm just not keen on the plastic bits. Maybe tactical was the wrong word, but they're in no way traditional. Each to their own of course, but if I was spending that much on a rifle to shoot Deer with I'd want an engraved Deer on the rifle and some nice wood! I'm actually thinking I may trade my T3 in for a Blaser/ Sauer/ Heym type rifle at some point. They just look so nice!
moses
If you wanted a pure stalking rifle then a beautiful Sauer 202 avant garde with apel mounts and a nice swaro/zeiss/S&B fixed power scope would be very nice but, as I understand it your going to be mainly foxing/lamping. That means your gun will be getting bashed around in the truck/on the roof/out of the window etc. as such I would go for a stainless synthetic rifle that can handle a bit of work. RPA''s are very good rifles and I would not hestitate to buy one if you're not restrained to a budget, having said that they do have an offers section on their site which is worth keeping an eye on. MC
NJC, I have to say as an owner of an RPA they are designed to do a job (which they do well), a bit like the Blaser F3 shotgun. Functional not pretty I suppose. I have to say that I would probably buy a Blaser R93 rifle if I was looking for something nice looking and practical. njc110381
I guess you could drop an RPA without having a breakdown over it. Synthetic does have its place. I've just ordered a Winchester model 70 extreme ss in .300 win mag.... http://www.triggersandbows.com/files/photo...meweatherSS.jpg ...But it's pretty ugly and more suited to range days than Deer stalking! It all comes down to how hard a life it's going to have. I thought we were talking about a rifle for a rich suit wearing type gentleman, not some ***** fox basher
