Edward
I have had enough stick about eacorts, and if you can beat 'em join 'em and I want a MORE clay ground frindly gun and game friendly gun. So what is a good reliable O/U that I can get for around 500 quid, I need a gun that I can use for 60% pigeons 35% clays and 5% game. Anyone heard of these: AXIOM 12 gauge SPORT Over and Under new Shotgun (R/H), £549 Edited August 20, 2009 by EdwardtheloneShooter
Harnser
That sort of money will get you a very nice remington 1100 or second hand Beretta . Both excellent field and clay guns . I do know about these guns as I have owned them both . Harnser Whoops ,sorry I thought you were looking for a self loader . Silly old Harnser . Gordon R
For that money you can do far better secondhand. It's money down the drain.
Baldrick
Ha ha, I knew we'd convert you, Edward. Next thing you know you'll have chucked your JD 1075 and bought a Lexion too. Buy a second-hand Miroku. It will probably outlive you.
Glensman
Buy an established brand SH, that way you miss the depreciation. I've had my Beretta 2 years and my dealer offered to buy it back at £50 more than I bought it for!

Edward
Looking a S/H lincon, it doesnt state the model but it meets my spec and has a nice bit o' wood Are Lincon a good brand?? Oh and Baldrick, there is a 1075 for sale in the back of the Profi mag this month for....... £11 000, vintage my friend vintage
Baldrick
At least I wouldn't have any depreciation concerns with a combine of that vintage. Lincoln make decent guns. If you can get one with above-average wood, so much the better. They're comparable to makes like Bettinsoli, Rizzini and possibly Franchi. Condor
You could get a Browning Medalist O/U for around £400 - good for the price, sound gun

jimmyb79
Beretta 686 every time. Should be plenty around, and the upside being that parts are always readily available. Browning Medalist isn't a bad suggestion either, although I seem to remember reading somewhere that they are made under license by someone else and not actually by Browning.... J@mes
You'd be very lucky to get a Beretta 68 series gun for £500 unless it was a wreck. There are of course the odd ones that come up, but not many - I spent around 11 months with a £500 budget and ended up putting it up to £750 in order to get my 687. The Beretta S56 should be in there though, as well as a few miroku 600/800 There is a 686 for £600 on guntrader at the minute, nice dark wood not the "1980's MFI sideboard" wood that most of the cheaper ones have. Edward
I do like the 686, but it is a tad out of my budget, I would rather have a top model 'lesser' brand than a knackerd 'top' brand, if yall follow What do you think to this? (lincon) Once I get my results (next week) I intend on badgering the parents a bit to take me to have a looky at it Edited August 21, 2009 by EdwardtheloneShooter
Mungler
Get a 2nd hand beretta but not off a dealer. If you sell it you will get your money back on it.

I bought one second hand a year ago and has never let me down and is solid as rock. Was well used before too. Got it for £295. Picture in the "...picture of your gun" thread. Guest
2nd hand well known maker every time. I picked up a Miroku MK70 Sporter off the ads on here for £650 last year, in near perfect condition, my best ever buy I reckon, don't think I'll ever sell it unless I give up shooting altogether! mr salt
if you get a beretta 686 for that money it will be a **** (you dont have enough for a good one) I have a Rizzini which would be cheap, and will last well, i cant hit anything with it,but thats me. below are some options: Lincon Fabarm AYA(i have one ,works well) Lanber( would be a good choice) I would say you would get £175-£225.00 for the escort. cheers and sorry about tha spelling. scott
peter-peter
buy an old winchester 101 made in usa. a cracking bit of kit mine is 30 years old and as good as new
utectok
if you get a beretta 686 for that money it will be a **** I got mine it was mint (£565 as you remember private sale) but its only from the game gun range granted a silver pig etc are more and good cheap game guns are hard top find but worth the looking for. I refinished my stock to stop it looking like a "80 sideboard" lol ah the 80's gotta love them. I have always felt good guns outlive their owners and get traded for flashier ones before they are worn out or in in some cases second hand has got to be better value. I agree also the browning medalist is a good gun (italian made actually I think and similar in many ways to the beretta not Japanese as are most of the brownings (Miroku)). Good luck anyhows Edited August 22, 2009 by utectok
Edward
Right well I have decided on this lincoln, I am going to put a deposit down on it after the bank holiday. Just wondering if anyone can identify a model and how much I should be paying for it?? Also any known problems with lincolns and things to look out for on O/Us in general?? Just wondering if anyone can identify a model and how much I should be paying for it?? Also any known problems with lincolns and things to look out for on O/Us in general?? Not wanting to p!ss on your chips but does it fit you? The most important aspect of choosing a shotgun is how well it fits YOU and how it handles and comes to the shoulder. Beg, steal or borrow as many different guns as possible and find out what sort of weight, length of pul and barrell length works best for you. If you are unsure then a couple of lessons with a CPSA qualified coach should give you some good info on what to look for. It may sound extravagant now but it could save you alot of expense and frustration further down the line. Apologies if I'm teching granny to suck eggs Regards Dave
