  1. Personally I would call World War I and World War II a little more than a crisis.
  2. Can you not just send it back and ask for a brown one?
  3. You could go out a few times before you get the variation and if you can get a letter from someone saying some are safe, competant, have experience etc. then that may satisfy them and you won't get a mentoring condition.
  4. Did anyone see this article in the paper the other day. A company are starting to make rabbit ready meals which will be available in Waitrose from November. But they are using French farmed rabbit for them!Metro rabbits 1.pdf Metro rabbits 2.pdfPage 2
  5. Someone brought mince pies into my office a few days ago.
  6. I'm interested in knowing the answer the this as a cat is crapping on my lawn. At the moment I've been chucking a bucket of water at it whenever I see it (if I have time to get one) or if not chasing it off. Someone did tell me that there is some kind of hyper sonic alarm thing that you can get which deters them (maybe like the thing they used outside shops to deter teenagers) but I've not looked into it yet and as its my neighbours cat it may not be useable as their house is next to mine.
  7. I first went out shooting with my dad with his .410 when I was 3 or 4 so I would say he is plently old enough for you to take him out. There is a picture of me out shooting with my dad at that age on my parents kitchen wall. I have now 'borrowed' the .410 that I learnt to shoot with (and my dad learnt to shoot with when he was a kid) so that I can teach my daughter to shoot, though at 7 months old I may need to wait a couple of years.
  8. The way I have read it is that the FAC has the wording 'landed cleared by the cheif officer of police' and is therefore 'closed'. The letter is then telling you what the land has been cleared for therefore some of the land has been cleared for .17HMR but not .22RF so as per the condition on your FAC you cannot shoot a .22 RF on that land as it has not been cleared by the police for that caliber.
  9. That brightened up a dull morning in the office. I was in fits of laughter reading that.
  10. I've not seen this thread, could someone paste a link as I'm sure it will be one that will make me laugh.
  11. You can still move them as long as you have informed them in writing 'without undue delay' that you have moved house. You have then satisfied the condition on your certificate.
  12. Thanks for posting that. There were quite a few comments on the Evening Standard website yesterday about the article all saying the same thing. I will have a look and see if any are published in the letters page, or elsewhere, in the paper this evening when I'm on my way home and if there is I'll stick it up here tomorrow.
  13. Could you cut and paste the open letter into the thread, my work ban access to any shooting related sites (except this one, must be considered bird watching site not shooting site!)
  14. I bought one recently and I like mine also
  15. Do you need a fishing license as well as a licence from NE to catch crayfish? And can you do it on any canal or do you have to have the fishing rights?
  16. I was told by my FEO that my firearms dept. would insist on a mentor unless I already had experience and a letter from someone saying so. My FEO told me to get a letter from someone with an FAC for the calibers I was after (or similar to, .22 CF for example) saying I had experience. i.e. I have been out shooting with allthegearandnoidea on numerous occasions and they have always been a safe and competant shot. My feo said don't be specific and be vague then you're not lying as going out twice is numerous and shooting tin cans in the back garden with an air rifle is shooting! He didn't agree with all of the hurdles that his force were putting in the way and there is no requirement in law to have any previous experience or require a mentor but getting a letter let the firearms dept. tick that box. The more experience you have the better but there is no requirement to have any unless your force insist on it.
  17. When we had a new alarm fitted (the monitored type), there was a series of tick boxes that we had to answer so they could notify the police of certain items in the house if they needed to be called out. One of these was guns etc. I thought, rightly or wrongly, that as the police issued my SGC and FAC they would be well aware that I had guns therefore there was no need to tell all the employees of the alarm company as well so left it blank.
  18. I think when I got my dads guns put on my cert the details of the gun were written on my cert and I sent a letter to the police telling them I had aquired the gun but my dad didn't send a letter saying he disposed of a gun therefore it was on both certs. I think my certificate had given written on it.
  19. I once tried to hide the fact that I'd bought a new gun by just not telling her, thinking as it was locked away she wouldn't be able to tell one from the other. She did spot the new gun slip though and figured it out. Now I don't hide the fact I bought a new gun and if she asks me how much the gun cost I tell her. As she doesn't ask how much the scope, rings, mod etc. etc. cost I figure she's not interested and doesn't want to know.
  20. Pork dripping with salt and balck pepper for me. There always seems to be more jelly in the pork dripping than beef.
  21. I used to go here when I lived in Bristol and used to really enjoy it there: bristolclayshooting.com They shoot at 2 locations north of bristol, the Kingswood shoot is near the village of Kingswood, not the part of Bristol.
  22. I've never seen a rabbit with one kidney but my mum only has one. She went in for a scan for something unrelated and they could only one kidney. It has never affected her in any way.
  23. If you email pictures from an iPhone it asks you what size you want to send them, full size, large, medium or small. Does that help?
  24. This is what I put in my letter a few months back: "As I have been a named mentor on the firearms certificate of a novice shooter who has a certificate issued by Thames Valley Police, I believe that I am entrusted by Thames Valley Police not only to judge for myself where I can safely shoot but also to provide guidance to a novice to shooter and ensure that they always act in a safe and responsible way and to take responsibility for their actions as well as my own." They came out and had a chat to me about it and said that I shouldn't really have been a mentor with a closed cert but that was there mistake for allowing it in the first place. I don't know if there is any requirements to have an open cert or not to be a mentor but didn't I ask either. They then looked at my ammo use, asked where I was going to be shooting etc. As I had just moved house (which was the reason for writing to them in the first place and thought I would try and get my cert opened at the same time) I said that I was going to be looking for new permissions close by and an open license would make things easier. I got it through a few days later.
  25. Mine was constantly jamming when using subs but cycled fine when using target loads. I took it to the gun shop a few weeks ago and they did somthing to the spring so that it now cycles them no problem at all. I think they either cut a bit off it or replaced it withh a new one. I also got the trigger replaced as it was incredilbly heavy and the total bill was £75.
