  1. Great result, just shows how moving even a few yds can make all the difference
  2. Sounds like you had a good day lads,
  3. Cheers, don't eat rabbit myself feed the dog with them cooked & mixed with a cheap all in one. Do a few bags for anyone who asks, the rest I give to our kid, freezers full enough allready to last the winter. I tend to cook all the front ends straight away as you don,t get as much meat on them & freeze the saddles & back legs. 6 of the 7 in picture made 3 good bags of eating rabbits 2 lb ish & a good boiling for the dog
  4. Had a nice couple of hours walk yesterday evening, very windy plenty of rabbits out on the stubbles picked 7 lost 1 & missed a couple more, well pleased with my shooting.
  5. It is the outback mate, old industrial site, she had been trying to get 1 that had kicked down a hole, its fly ash grassed over the sets are massive holes everywere. Can be scary after a good rain seen some big holes appear overnight, but its ideal for rabbits
  6. I make the most of this time of year, love the long evenings, up at 5 every week day all year round to walk the dog before work. Try & get a few hours in the evenings on the rabbits, only lamp midweek when I,ve got a day off next day. My game book would be leathal in the hands of a divorce lawyer
  7. Heres Fridays bag 21 pigeon. The lab in Wednesdays pic is our kids. Cheers Paul
  8. Took some pics of my afternoons & evenings out this week, Sunday afternoon rape stubble red hot 21 pigeon picked Monday evening out with rifle 7 decent rabbits + 2 with mixie Tuesday walk with shotgun for rabbits missed a sitter so no pic Wednesday evening out with rifle 5 decent rabbits after the thunder storms Thursday night lamping me driving with hushpower 410 our kid with his rifle 21 rabbits (me 7) Friday afternoon nice breezy disced rape stubble 21 pigeon again pic to follow used up my limit Roll on tomorrow
  9. good bag mate, wait till its minus 10 in the winter then think back
  10. Shot this pigeon yesterday, decoyed perfect, its crop was full & felt rock hard, opened it up & found what I think is a growth of some description. Never seen anything like it before, when the skin of the crop was broken it fell out it appeared to be attached at the top. Decided to cut it in half (see picture) it looked like an onion, layers of hard fatty tissue. Just to add this one will not make its way into the food chain, although it appeared to otherwise look healthy plenty of meat on breast. Anyone seen anything like this before, thoughts
  11. I usually use dead pigeons after I've took the breast meat off, but slung the last lot they don't keep long even in the fridge in garage in this weather OK in the winter, call em my real shells. Did'nt put no dead ones out the plastics were working OK & they would have been fly blown pretty quick. As for patience been told I've got pigeon fever Just love being out.
  12. another clue it begins with C
  13. nice bag healthy looking rabbits ( before shot )
  14. Arrived at the farm to find most of the swathed rape cleaned up & the stubbles disced up, on the largest of the fields left a strip of about 6 rows had been done to the boundry which is a riverbank, dividing the block in half. Plenty of pigeon feeding as I drove down the strip they were getting up infront of the landie, only piece of hedge about 20 yds at the end of the strip could'nt have designed it better. Set up at 2.30 with 10 shells & rotar had 3 over the decoys before I got back in the hide, 20 down in the first hour then they just dissapeared, nothing till 5.30 then a few started to show, finished at 7.15 with 32 picked up lost 4 well out in the rape. Dog was'nt impressed only allowed her to retrieve 3 off the riverbank & a couple that dropped in front of the hide, stubble like bayonets some of it 2ft high. Weather was red hot & the flys were a pain (forgot my bag). Another enjoyable afternoon out.
  15. one happy looking dog, can't beat shooting with one,
  16. decoys, milk in flask, dog lead & whistle, now do a check list in my head before I set off also leave a note with my keys pigeons out of fridge for whirly. Keep a spare lead & whistle in landie, Senior moments thats my excuse
  17. Hard work getting them to decoy in the winter when there flocked up, this is the second farm run by the son the main farms about 2 mile away, they tend to grow the rape in large blocks fields divided by deep tidal drains very low hedges if any. Loads of rape gets frustrating watching them piling into an area were you can't get to without a couple of mile trek (no problem 20 year ago). Bags can be hit or miss loads of rape grown in this area, the main roost woods are 2 mile away over the river. Don't think the dog will ever stop talking to me she loves me, or the fact she loves her work.
  18. Did a recce Saturday plenty of pigeon hitting the swathed rape over 100 acres layed, stalks 2 ft high rape well dry & pods very brittle. Would not work the dog in this, main reason chancing injuring the dog, secondly we would do more damage to the crop than the pigeon. Found a corner that had failed due to flooding area about the size of half a football pitch. Made the mistake of going to early set up were the swathes got thicker built a hide in the open put a net over leaving a triangle to shoot out of. Very few about, sat it out anyway about 12 ish a flight started from some forestry about 2 miles away, started to get a few mainly singles odd doubles. Birds passing high heading for the middle of a large block behind me, managed to pick 28 up lost a few more & missed a few (only the dog as a witness as to how many, she won't say anthing)
  19. Been shooting a block of willows since start of April, over run with rabbits, shot first 1 with mixie on first week but have shot 78 on there since that have all been healthy (until they came into contact with 30 grams of No6 shot). Still plenty about not shot any with mixie in last 3 week, seems to have passed. On another large permision about 5 mile away with plenty of rabbits shot first 1 with mixie 2 week ago it was an old doe full of young uns. See it every year round but it dose not seem to wipe them out like it did when I was a kid 40 ish year ago used to see loads, think some have developed a form of imunity (thats my opinion)
  20. good bag mate, rifle looks the business
  21. can you count the strings of young uns in milky does ?, I could be on a winner
  22. great pics, nice write up well done
