  1. Trawled the net for hours, & found an old thread on landyzone, which was the exact same problem. One reply was as above (yellow relays) , anyway managed to get 2 from a mate, pulled up at his place, turned off the engine & it refused to start (same as before) Fit the new relays & it fired straight up, Had a good run out today, plenty of stopping & restarting, never missed a beat, parked up for an hour went back & it started no problem. Wishful thinking that was the problem Thanks for the replies
  2. cheers, what made me think it could be the immobiliser was it usually happens when its been stood or I can go out park up for the day, & it does it again, then it can run ok for a week never missing a beat, does my head in. It has cut out when driving twice but kicks straight back in again, when it cut out Friday night it was idling while I was sorting gates out
  3. Only going on what AA said, found an old topic with similar issues, but no answers, would be better if it stopped for good, then there would be more chance of finding the reason
  4. Anyone out there got any ideas Land rover Defender 90 TD5, 55 plate 76,000 miles I have had this from nearly new & apart from basic repairs etc have never had had any problems, about 6 months ago started with an intermittent starting problem. Turn key & only the red lights coming on & no orange lights & no fuel pump kicking in, took it to an independent land rover repairer & he had the computer on it, but it was showing no faults. He found a small amount of oil in the ecu plug, cleaned it & everything OK for a couple of weeks. Then it started again so he changed the injector wiring loom, same again for a few week then started again, but this time no oil in the ecu plug. All OK for a couple of week but now it's started again but more frequent, read what I could of different forums & tried the basics locking it unlocking it made sure the fob battery was replaced go through the routine & it starts. Then Friday night finished lamping rabbits 1 ish stopped to gut up & it decided to play up again. Got it going again after about half an hour, stopped to lock the farm gate & it cut out & refused to start, so called out the AA (told an hour before they could get there) sat waiting & kept trying again about half an hour later it fired up & managed to get home. Got a call from AA recovery man as I got home, told him the story & he said sounds like an immobiliser fault & its quite common on TD5's. Sorry for the novel but I've tried to give as much info as possible. So if anyone as come across this before can you let me know. Cheers Paul
  5. thanks for the replies, will keep looking for now, but not in B&Q my boxing days are long over & I can't run anymore.
  6. Folks I have a sliding gate made from tanalised pine, plained tounge & grove timber set in a metal frame, as yet its not been treated & I don't fancy using a varnish type stain. What's your opinions, experiences on using decking oil. pips
  7. A few year ago, out rabbiting on a disused ash tip with the rim fire, spotted 2 rabbits grazing about 50 yds away. Shot the first off the bipod, chambered the next round & the second rabbit ran round in a circle then went behind the dead one & started nudging it with its nose, shot it clean head shot. When I went & picked them the first was a buck & the second a young doe, I've shot thousands over the years but these two stick in the memory.
  8. wonder what was used as a back stop
  9. Just to note, when the fields drilled after the beans have been harvested you will probably get a good day or 2 on it. Had some cracking days on wheat drilled over beans.
  10. Had it all over the years with wanna be keepers, few examples, set gas gun up on same field as I was shooting, changed lock on barrier locking me in, sent someone else to shoot same field as me, had the cheek to ask me for £20 a day to shoot pigeons. Anyway moan over hope you have a good day whatever way you play it.
  11. each to there own mate. I'm quite happy with what I use.
  12. Not sure if this is classed as a sporting picture as it was probably used for hunting or defence many moons ago. Any way found this flint arrow head on a stubble field not 200 yds from my house, there are 3 circular ditch marks that show up on Ariel photos in the next field. Took it to the local museum but could not get past the jobs worth guard, as all the staff were to busy to see me, so it will stay in my drawer till whenever. Did not find the 20 pence with it that's just for size comparison Still as sharp as probably the day it was napped,
  13. Thanks for the replies gents, tons of rape in around here as usual, some farms drilling every second year now. Had some good results through November early December on the maize as this farm cuts for the grain not biomass, Most of the land tied up by syndicates big money paid and a closed shop, like most I'm out every chance I get but never here much shooting out of season. More damage been done on some fields by the swans, counted over 70 on a 40 acre field last week.
  14. After a few painfully slow weeks were the pigeon would not decoy or disappear after a few shots never to return as per the time of year. I decided on Saturday to go out at first light at the side of a half acre wood on a rape field that's had birds on it all week, they flight into the wood a drop down to feed. 200 plus sat in there every morning, anyway got set up wind at my back 10 decoys & rotor with 2 dead birds on a good 30 yards out. 07.20 2 straight in shot them both, then a single then an easy miss, then that was it sat till 10 never saw another pigeon. Decided to pack up and try to find another field. Found a decent size flock 0f 300 plus feeding on the rape at the side of another wood, drove down in the landie & they lifted back into the wood, decided to set up right on the point of the wood in some brambles at the side of an old rabbit fence. the rape was to the left hand side of me with old maize stubble in front. Put the rotor level with hide but out on the rape and stuck the 3 pigeons from the morning on cradles behind it, sat down looked at my watch 11 o'clock, straight away about a dozen decoyed. Shot 5 in the first 5 minutes, then it steadied up but the ones that came back decoyed perfect, picked up 27 total of 30 on the day, was well happy with the result so was the dog she got to do a bit. Shot with 32 gram steel 5's for the hawk man.
  15. anytime, also carry a few nails to tap in the pole for hanging the net on,
  16. Think theres a range on side of M62 between Snaith & Eggborough, don't know the name of it but you can see the red flags from the motorway, think it will be classed as West Yorkshire
  17. Hi All Seriously thinking of getting a Archer D grade. question is, has anyone got one in reasonable travelling distance from Doncaster, say an hour ish (mind you I drive a Landie) that I could have a look through. I'm not asking for a free night out just a look & an honest opinion from a user not a seller as I've never had NV before. Been doing loads of reading on the net into NV and the Archer ticks all the boxes main comments seem to be have a look through one before you buy, maybe over the top as I only want it for rabbits on my 22 rimfire, Been a member on here for years with full profile filled in, any help would be much appreciated
  18. as the title says, browsing on flea bay & found 1 in the night vision section, currently £442 with 10 bids, heard there still like rocking horse ^^^^, This has nothing to do with me, just thought it maybe of interest.
  19. I saw the same bloke, on my way to Sandringham on Sunday had his vehicle next to the hide under a power line at 1.30 ish, don't know if he was just setting up or packing up? Pigeons flighting in against a strong wind, still loads on this morning at 11 ish when I was on my way home.
  20. Bit of info from my own personal experience, I have used steel shot for the last 8 years for all my pigeon shooting. I use 32 gram 5s by Hull or Gamebore, using 1/4 & 1/2 choke through a Berretta Silver Pigeon. At present locally they are priced around £200 to £210 per thousand. I sell all my pigeons fresh at 50p a bird for Hawk food, which is a good price compared to the price paid by local game dealers for lead shot usually around the 20p mark. I have had no issues with the gun mechanically but don't think it would turn any heads as its used for the job & got the scars to prove it. On average I shoot just below 2 for 1 over a full season which is the same average as I had with lead shot, (that could be my shooting). This year I have picked 1188 pigeon to date. In my opinion I believe they do the job quite adequately.
  21. a good few years ago I had a car stolen from work, in the boot was a pair of decent wellies, shooting coat gloves etc, when I tried to claim I was told that shooting gear was'nt on the list of reconised sporting stuff but fishing gear was, my shooting coat became an instant fishing coat. Never saw the car again, had a letter from the police after 6 months asking if I knew were it was
  22. Inland duck shoot situated south of Gainsborough North Lincs DN22 The pond is bordered by a large hedgerow & grassed area & is approx half a mile from the river Trent, 9 permanent hides spaced around the boundary plus the owners hide & a flushing hide. This year 75 Mallard have been reared & are resident on the pond. The pond is feed daily through the season & attracts Mallard, Widgeon & Teal. Shooting is every other Sunday evening starting at the end of September, pegs are drawn on the first shoot & you move up 2 pegs on the next one. The rules are No low shooting None toxic shot Insurance & shotgun cert required Please note the bags are not massive or guaranteed usually everyone gets a few shots & the bag is divided after picking up at the end of the flight. We will be having a working morning this Saturday 22nd September starting at 9am, which would be an ideal opportunity for anyone interested to have a look & met the owner & guns who attend. There are 3 spaces available & the price is £200 per gun for the season paid on the first shoot. I have been a member for the past 7 years Any questions or interest please reply by PM
  23. thanks for the reply,s don't wont to go electric trying to keep the cost down plus something else to break down, already seen the vid link, got a rough idea whats required, just thought someone on here may have done there own, cheers
  24. hi all, I'm looking at putting a new vehicle entrance into the garden directly off the road, require approx 3 mtr opening so hinged gates wont be an option. the fence the gate is going in is 25 mtrs long so a sliding gate would be ok. Been looking on the net for plans but drawn a blank, thinking of metal frame with wood inset, manually operated, need some ideas for the sliding mechanism & frame the gate fits in etc, any ideas, cheers
  25. Went on the peas last Saturday afternoon plenty of pigeon on the 40 acre field now the banger has been moved onto some spring barley that the geese have decided to take up residence on. Had a frustrating day no definite flight line onto the field, set up with my back to a block of rape, the pigeon were completely ignoring the rotor & dropping in all over the field mainly next to the road, moved across the field & just ended up sticking 8 decoys out & finished up with 15 picked. Not a great bag for the amount of pigeon in the area but they just didn’t want to play, my brother was on a smaller field about half a mile away & was having the same sort of day he finished up with a dozen picked up. On the way home we passed the last & smallest field at about 7 ish & there were about a 100 plus sat on the power lines, decided to give them another go on Tuesday thanks to HM had the day off. Got there at 1 ish & dropped him off at the small field were we had seen the pigeon on the wires, & I had a look at the others, the big field had a few about nowhere near the amount from Saturday, put about 20 off the field he had shot previous, with a few flighting to a bush in the corner of a rape field behind it the other side of a drainage ditch. Watched for a while & pigeon started drifting back all heading for the bottom end & into the bush. Weather had changed overcast threatening rain with a strong wind blowing down the field, no cover so just built the hide on a grass bank with the rape & the bush on the other side of the ditch at my back. Set the hide & decoys on an angle so I was shooting across the wind, & away from the road, put the rotor out at 30 yds & 8 decoys in a random pattern 5 on one side 3 the other. Had 2 pigeon in straight away dropped them both perfect, had 16 picked in the first hour all decoying perfect then it went quiet. Started getting a few more as the afternoon went on mainly single birds, my brother was not doing a deal either, we had to pack up just after 6, but I finished up with 27 picked a few scared & only lost 1 in the rape behind me to far & to thick to send the dog on a blind retrieve. Picked him up & he had picked 18 & not seen a pigeon for over 2 hours. All shot with 32 gram 5s steel for the hawk man.
