  1. PLEEEEEEEEASE-dont post messages on this thread regarding Mr.Beasely and his personal customer relations-good or bad i have no desire to harm his business in any shape or form-I started this discussion to simply see if anyone else shared my concerns over the potential damaging effects that could occur if people who charge for vermin shooting were to ,in any way whatsoever, protect the target species to boost the numbers available for shooting.I have no proof at all that this has, or is , happening anywhere in the U.K. and I do not wish this man to be connected in any way to this theoretical situation-I stupidly connected my thread to his advert for which i am happy to apologise for any inconvenience caused.I might add that i live within 10 miles of the gentleman concerned and have never heard a bad word spoken of him-quite the opposite.
  2. I seem to recall a case in the Shooting Times a number of years ago that involved two brothers out shooting rabbits-the plan was for one to walk one way around a very large field whilst the other went the opposite way until they met at an agreed time/place.When one of the 2 had been waiting in the designated place for a considerable time he decided to look for his missing brother who was finally discovered quite dead having been hit in the head by, what turned out to be ,a ricochet from his opposite brothers gun-my memory is a bit vague im afraid but i remember that the guns were .22lr.I have used both the .22 and the .17 and i consider the latter to be a far "safer" round where ricochets are concerned.
  3. Dear Highlander -let me answer your points one at a time if i may- my question was not aimed at any one individual in particular and i had no idea that the shooting advertised was being offered by the site sponser-it would not however, have prevented me posting the thread.(I have not recieved any complaints from the gentleman in question so i assume that he has the decency to allow other people their opinions) No matter how "sporting" a pigeon may be it is vermin if you look up the meaning of the word. I do not "claim" to have 40k acres-i have and am fairly sure that i could increase this area with little or no problem. As for not doing a very good job-maybe im the worst goddam pigeon shooter in the world-im just waiting for a complaint to let me know. Because i dont pay for my shooting im not very experienced?-I fail to see the connection, sir, but just to put your mind at rest-ive been shooting 2 months short of 33 years and have been an instructer in my time.(however-if you feel that you know something that i dont then please let me know cos im allways willing to listen/learn) Mean-if you only knew me you would delete that word from your thread. And lastly comes the hint that my post may be anti-shooting-did you read it properly and understand my concerns-if we dont start looking very carefully at what we do and discuss said matters in a frank and fair manner(without wasting everyones time by pointlessly abusing people who may have opinions that differ from our own) then we might as well quit now-bruno.
  4. Agree with sharpshot-bin using rimmys for years and soon learnt that they are much easier on scopes than air rifles-i think ive re-adjusted mine 3 times in the last 5 years!-bruno.
  5. Prometheus pellets are the work of the devil-avoid them at all costs-ive seen them being made (on a rivet machine) and quality/consistency is very poor.
  6. I agree with Evil Elvis-they are c**p -you only need too take a good look at them to see how poorly made they are-real subs start with the word Eley or RWS!
  7. i would have thought that the bulb only has one earth-so if it works on dip then the earth must be good?-its either the switch or the relay-any auto electrician will diagnose the problem in a couple of minutes-is it really worth messing around yourself?-or just get bits from a breaker and swap em over.
  8. I had an SKB that looked identical to this-i read somewhere that the japanese company bought the machine tools for these guns from Berretta after the italian company modernised its range-dont know if that helps or hinders!
  9. At 35 yards you are going to need the best cammo/hide that money can buy if you are looking for either a magpie or crow-at that range both can count the hairs on the back of your hand!Ive tried an owl decoy with some success but only with a shotgun-if you do get a couple then bring the decoys in and put the real ones out asap-my best bags on both these corvids has been under the trees as they come in to roost-as the light fades their eyes seem to loose their advantage.
  10. Ive shot airguns for over 30 years and a few gooduns come to mind-from the bottom-Original 45-HW80-AA sm100-Anshutz 335s-strange that all have german made barrels!
  11. Apart from shooting and maintaining a spinney i spend ages researching war records to trace the details of RAF casualties for relatives that want more info on relatives (usually parents/grandparents) who died in bomber/fighter command.
  12. Dear lampa-i have no intention of implying that you or any other gun is rididulous if you pay for most shooting-my concerns are solely based on pigeon shooting alone and the precarious position that we in the uk are in (by the way-i cannot comment on the pros and cons/moral position of shooting anything other than vermin because i have never felt the urge to shoot game).I hold my hands up to playing devils advocate when i posted this and am suprised at the initial lack of response in defending this type of vermin control. However,i can honestly say that if i were ever in a position whereby i had no choice but to pay to shoot some farmers vermin (and lets not forget that landowners have an obligation to prevent vermin on their land spreading to other property)-i would quit shooting and take up knitting(until thats banned under health and safety regs.)
  13. Maybe there are too many people shooting pigeons if your land is mostly free of them? I have nothing at all against the chap running this shooting but i cant help but think that, in the bigger picture, he is playing a potentially disastrous stroke for the shooting side.If an anti was to discover that by any means the pigeons were being protected from say predation or a self imposed season was introduced then the whole idea of the u.k. shooting under a common exemption from licensing would be under threat. We are legally obliged to prove to anyone who asks that shooting is the only way of protecting crops and that all other means have been tried or deemed unsuitable-if any hint of pigeon numbers being nurtured in any way was to become apparent then the antis would hang us out to dry-i think that if such an act was put into practice then it would be under these "pay to shoot pests" situations.
  14. Am i going mad or am i the only person out here who thinks that paying to shoot vermin is a ridiculous notion?I understand that people may find it hard to find somewhere to shoot but doesnt that mean that the whole basis of having a shotgun for vermin control is flawed in such a case.I think i might put an ad in my local paper asking if any local mechanic fancies servicing my car and paying me for the privilege-its the same surely?.Ive never paid a penny for shooting and i have over 40k acres of land i can use-my reputatiom is all ive ever needed -not my wallet.

Anybody with the co-ordination suitable to pick their nose without poking an eye out can do the majority of service work on a car-theres no black magic lurking under the bonnet! If you just change the oil and filter/s it will save you an hours labour at the dealers which is likely to be £100 at least. If your car is no longer under warranty then buy yourself a Haynes manual and read away-these manuals even tell you the skill level required to complete each task ( they even do service manuals now for the supermarine spitfire and the avro lancaster!)
  16. R.E. Staglioni-ir your p.c. was only 15 months old they should repair it free of charge-the years warranty is over and above your rights as laid out in the sale of goods act.Take it back and when they quote the year warranty explain that you are not interested in this but that you are using your rights under the sale of goods act.The law states that any item you buy must last a "reasonable" time -if you paid the asking price and the unit was new then let them know that any refusal of repair will be followed by a court summons from the small claims court-ask for the managers name so that the summons can be addressed accordinly-you are within your rights to do this-speak to C.A.B. for free advice-go for it and watch the ba****ds sweat.

cant see how running a car into the ground can be false economy-i bought my bmw 320i five years ago-paid a paltry £650 for it in immaculate condition-ive put over 100k miles on it and only ever had to replace the oil-cooler(£150)-i service it myself for under £35 and other than petrol it never needs anything (its still on the original exhaust!)-ive been offered over a grand for it on many occasions-false economy my rrrrrrs-depends on what you buy -bruno.
  18. i had a pump a few years back and found that if you pull on thr forend as you are about to shoot then as the gun fires you arm automatically comes back and ejects the first shell-then you only have to concentrate on pushing the forend forwards-with practice you can reload without even thinking about it-a word of warning however-if you use other guns you may find yourself pulling the forend as well because it becomes habit!
  19. hi-ive been shooting rabbits for over 30 years so i guess i should offer my pennys-worth-buy a cz 452 (brno)-you can pick them up for peanuts and unless they are completley sh****d (which is very rare) they will pop rabbits at 100 yards all day long-when you apply for your FAC (and its much easier than most people would have you believe) dont forget to apply for the silencer as well or you will have to apply at a later date and it will cost you-ask about hollow-point ammo as well cos i seem to remember that i had to make an application for that -shooting rabbits with a rimfire is about as much fun as you can have with your trousers on -good luck-bruno.
  20. hi-the gun must be under warranty so any decent dealer should replace the seal free (easy job)-it might pay you to check the tops of your co2 capsules by running your finger round them to check for dents/sharp burrs before you use them-once you are up and running try to avoid leaving a charged capsule in the gun for long periods (say 2 weeks or more) as this puts the seal under constant strain-bruno.
  21. AYA No4-12g s/s boxlock-ejector with superb wood (proffesionally re-polished a year ago with recut chequering)-28" barrels 3/4 & full showing signs of age but no rust-prevoius owner stored without cleaning and some internal chrome is missing from the bores (this is very minor and the gun is totally safe as verified by my local dealer)-selling as lost the sight in my right eye!-must be worth £150-p.m. me any questions-Bucks area.NOW SOLD(IN LESS THAN AN HOUR!)
