  1. I cant see why sniperfox36 couldnt be right-the round travels that far and presumably carrys enough power to kill ,say a rabbit, at such extreme distances. He never said that it was a deliberate calculated shot-maybe he was popping a round into a flock of pigeons to scare them off.I once did a similar thing with a crow-bloody thing had been sitting on a fence the other side of the field (at least 200 yards away) for ages so as there was nothing but open fields behind him i fired about 2 foot above him to see if i could scare him off-i was gobsmacked when he dropped following a dull thud-not a deliberate shot but still a 200 yard plus kill?
  2. chuck em in the bin-get yourself some Eley subsonic plus for bunnies up to about 70 yards with a silencer-then buy some RWS high velocity for those -"bloody hell-i hit it " shots without a silencer.

    HELP

I went out today with my brand new HW80k and a tin of powapells. As the gun needed sighting in i found a decent backstop and put a piece of duck tape on to aim at.About 20 yards back i found that the first 2 shots were touching each other about an inch left so i altered the scope and fired again.Only 2 of the next 3 shots were visible and were about 3 inches apart (still left ).More adjustment and the next shot pierced the tape-job done-or so i thought.Over the next hour i must have fired a hundred pellets but with no real convincing group whatsoever.Elevation wise everything is rosey-you could almost draw a line across the holes-but windage is another kettle of bananas-at 30 yards in getting as much as 4inch spread-on one occasion one hole was a good 8inches off target.Any ideas would be most welcome-is it just because she needs running in?or are the slugs a poor match?-HELP
  4. So long as you are certain that the buyer is old enough (ask for driving licence number-its made up of his initials and date of birth) then yuo can post an airgun quite legally. The post office will transport them bt parcel force wont.
  5. If you are using brass snares-are they new? if so then you need to bring them home and then leave them outside to weather for a few weeks because they shine when new-or you could try dipping them in vinegar then rinsing them clean. The bottom of the snare needs to be about 3 inches from the ground and the loop should fit loosely around the average fist.If after trying this you havnt caught any then theres probably none there! p.s. you need to cover ALL the runs-if you dont have enough wires then set the snares over the most heavily used runs and urinate on the others-the strong scent normally drives them to other routes.

    air rifles

Im with boomstick on this one-you can easily spend a grand and get something that looks pretty but ultimately doesnt kill a rabbit more dead than a rusty gun with a cracked stock. At the end of the day its all down to the depth of your pocket and luck-if you see a used bargain and you know its a good gun then grab it cos dealers ive spoken to reckon they cant get enough quality used guns to sell.Study guntrader till you know it off by heart if you want a real bargain-if its private it will cost £20 to post so take that into account-if its a dealer then you have the postage plus whatever your local RFD is going to charge you.I recently bought a HW 80 with scope and extras in unfired condition for £180-privately-so there are some bargains to be had but , like i said, you gotta be quick. As for guns themselves-stick to german or english for quality(in my humble opinion)
  7. I agree with pest control-does she let you have a car?-what if the kids get the keys?-get a grip, man, maybe you should let her get a gun and you pop on the pinny!
  8. have a look at the thunderaces-**** cheap-i picked up one with 12k on the clock-full service history and not a mark on it for £1250 on e-bay.
  9. I was going to suggest the same thing-go for the 9 metre poles if you can-normally about a tenner at car boot sales-bruno.
  10. About ten years back i was out branching young rooks in a small wood on an old RAF bomber station. After a while whilst searchind the branches for more targets i saw a light aircraft that seemed to be waggloing its wings-i was staring at it for a few seconds wondering what was going on when it suddenly collided with a glider-i was dumbstruck to have witnessed this accident and i continued to watch as the glider flew on almost as if nothing had happened -the light aircraft ,however, cilmbed hard before turning upside down and plunging fill throttle into the ground about 100 yards from a row of houses. It took the emergency services until the following morning to remove his body-the glider landed safely at Bicester.Just one of the amazing things ive seen whilst shooting!
  11. In the last few weeks ive p.m.nd 2 members of this site who have complained about having nowhere to shoot in the south(bucks in this case) to invite them to share my shooting land with me as i am looking for a partner.I have plenty of land scattered around and far too much to ever hope of covering by myself.Guess what?-not one reply from either of them-not even an up-yours!Im not asking for money or transport or any input other than company on each outing-i dont know why i bothered. :yp:
  12. 4.5%?-thats apple juice! :yp:

  14. I had a s/s .410 hammer pistol a few years back-im pretty sure that somebody had made it from a cheap shotgun-like the little el-chimbo-i think theres one similar for about £80 on guntrader-dont know how you would legally convert it to a pistol?-maybe a RFD could do it for you.

  16. Yeoman with high rib-ejector + single trigger-in vgc i would guess £200 private + 20% from a dealer.
  17. I agree with j@mes-you can get a whole lot of gun if you shop around for that kinda money-
  18. I can recall both shells-i think the baikals were called Azot?-with a picture of two ducks taking off-i certainly remember the flame and the recoil that knocked me off a tree stump into a pond-fond memories!
  19. So nice to see a man who regards his dog as his friend and not just an accessory. It sounds very much like he was well loved and enjoyed a wonderfull life with you -well done and god bless him.
  20. O.K. i may have to admit that im blind before i even finish writing this thread but somethings bugging me and i need to be educated. Every year we seem to roll over and accept more and more crippling legislation that is slowly eroding our sport to a point where it must surely, by now, be putting people off even starting to shoot as a pastime. We have become so used to being told that we have to jump through hoops that we seem to be practising jumping rather than removing the hoop.Isnt attack considered the best form of defence?-what attacks on firearms legislation are we currently . collectivley, engaged in?There are many thousands of gun owners in this country who have the ability as a single unit to challenge those who govern us.So why do we not appear to be fighting-the power limits on airguns , for example-the need for referees in SGC applications (they could be a complete nutter but if they employ a certain amount of people then they are deemed to be sound)-most restrictions on our sport can surely be challenged and, bit by bit, changed. Why are we not fighting?-what huge public campaigns are the BASC engaged in?Time and time again we seem to be moaning about the latest restrictions whilst calmly waiting for the next kick in the balls from the government-whats going on ?
  21. I seem to remember that Venom Arms ceased trading in 06 but that Steve Pope then began trading as V-Mach rifles-dont think they are trading any longer-shame because a venom rifle was a joy to use-i had a HW80 from the venom workshop and the firing cycle was so fast and smooth it was spooky.Steves mobile no used to be 07850 296360 but that was a couple of years ago.
  22. Ive got a Tasco 4x40 w/a Golden Antler thats been knocking around my cupboard for a few years-no mounts- its yours if you want it-just p.m. me your address-bruno.
  23. I cant understand what happened to Kings of Leon-if you listen to the new stuff , such as sex on fire or use somebody-then listen to the earlier stuff on youtube -the lead singer seems to have had a vocal transplant.
  24. we used to shoot hundreds of rats in the rafters of a pig breeding unit-when they fell amoung the pigs they were devoured in seconds by hungry pigs that, after a few weeks, used to stand and look upwards to see when the next one was coming!-these pigs end up in the food chain so perhaps weve all eaten a little Roland? :
