I have to agree with your entire post, apart from the first sentance as isnt it obvious the "Ive never had a runner" or "Ive never missed a beast" bigade hasnt shot many whilst were on about "experiences" of running deer,I will sahre one which was a perfect shot (if there is such a thing) hunting Sika in Ireland, stalking up a hedge row watching a5 Sika in a grass field, craled in on my belly to a reasonable distance of about 150 yards, put the bullet smack in the engine room (6.5x55 using 120gr SST)the berast showd all the signs of a perfect hart/ling shot then ran 80 yuards to a fenced, jumped over it and ran into a thick wood. I sat and watched, took a cigar out my pocket lit it and sat 20 mins enjoying the smoke, then took a staedy walk over wher I had marked the beast jumping the fence, low and behold a nice blood trial another 50 yards into the wood and 1 dead fully bled out Sika, after inspect of the heart/lungs the bullet had cleanly taken half of the heart out. how it ran so far is a mystery.but at the end of the day the result was the same 1 dead Sika shoot enough deer of any speices and you will get runners, thats a fact I now use a large caliber with a bonded bullet,it helps cut down on the runners

well said I can tell by your reply you are an experienced deer hunter, unlike the OP "chasing deer" christ thats the first thing you learn not to do
-
obvioulsy you have not shot many deer
-
I see so it seems these now fangled fashionable calibers arnt what there cracked up to be best sticking to the good oldies 22.250 and 243 cant beat them
-
I thought BRs were able to feed correctly nowerdays are is it just the good smiths that go to the rouble of doing this I always single feed when foxing anyway so it makes no difference, how did you find the caliber as a vermin tool beside the bad feeding ??
-
Ive made my mind up after reading this http://www.6mmbr.com/22br.html a good 52 gr bullet in the BR giving 22.250 performance
-
the world of 22 cals is at your feet 22.250 22.250 AI 22 BR would be nice 223 AI do a little research into the ballistic advantages of each caliber you may fancy then choose which fits the bill

yep its happening more and more on the big shoots, just save your fuel receits to off set againts what you get paid also clothing boots dog food repairs to car ect ect,at the end of the day you like everyone else will owe nothing in tax,its just a paper trail for the tax man to try and get more money
-
why not just use 1 bullet to save messing around, the 80gr Berger varmint will do everything you ask of it right out to 600 yards pushed with 47 gr of Vit 160 and remington 9.5 primer I load this combo in a mates 243 and its superb,I use the 80s in my own 243 AI and lets just say they work well (the lady at Bisley on Sunday thought so when she was hitting 600 yard V bulls first time firing my rifle and then stuck a 6 inch group togeather) my lamping partner also uses the 80s in his 243 AI and I have another chap coming down to also have a load made up for the 80s again in his 243 AI,thats many people cant be wrong good luck

I fully understand what you bare saying but "who are we to judge" the thing with long range shooters they are anal about consiatnt precission ammo and equipment far more than the average hunter. you mentiuon 2 secs flight time over 1100 yards this maybe true BUt who hasnt had an animal move at 100 yards or less due to the fact its winded you or something isnt quite right ?? it works both ways, hecne my commnet on people mess up at closers ranges than longer ones,as the longer range the animal hasnt a clue you are there as you say you can crack the barby up smoke a fag and have a beer and the animal still wouldnt have a clue so will go about its business I never said people are jealous I said they cant do it. I cant do 1100 reason being I have never tried this dosent mean its wrong for someone else to do so,just like an average shot taking a game bird at 30 yards and top shot taking one at 70 yards there is no right and no wrong, its all about your own ability.Oh and wounded pheasent can be 1/2 a mile away Ive seen it and picked them in the next drive
-
if you look at any American hunting videos they all take the high shoulder shot to break the spine, theres nothing wrong with that shot.if you shoot enough you do get the odd shot wrong IE a little bit back or a little bit low, anyone who says they havnt, hasnt shots many or is lieing seen it happen and done it.but I have always found its the close range shots that get messed up,dont know why I can only assume its nerves on having something so close you have to rush the shot.
-
superb shooting but unfortunatley the skill and time involved to be able to make a shot like that is wasted on some on this site and many others. these people frown upon the distance as they cannot do it but are happy to bang away at game birds in the sky not knowing if they have been hit and are left to fly away only to drop dead out of a tree and few hundred yards away theres a lot of double standards nice to see the meat being used and not just a set of antlers over the fire place

buy Lapua you will find there much better

Malcom left before the end of last season due to illness, the head keeper now is Tim Rolf also 2 new under keepers who are keen as mustard on vermin
-
I didnt say "you had no idea" so read my comments again please, whos agreeing with your apsrt from Kent,he would say I was wrong if I said white was actually white neck turning works, thats the simple answer, these so called gunsmiths over here are lazy and do what earns a quick buck unless you insist on something that they havnt got on the shelf do a proper search with the American rifl;e builders and shooters, were in the dark ages compared to those guys yes i saw your group, well done BUT 3 shots aint a group mate plus you need to repeat it,good luck and dont forget to report back on the results
-
you have the edge on me then mate I only have 15 years under my belt, you have said the magic word twice in your post "consistant" we all have shot an accurate group BUT the key is a consistant accurate group,I read it all the time on forums "my rifle shoots .5 all day long" of course it does just because they have put down a good group for once with there Tike T3 or what ever there using no matter how good you develop a load and no matter how long your spend shooting that load IF you aint got all the variables taken away form your favourite load there will be fliers hence do all you can to stop this, then the only thing to blame is "driver error" as you have done all you can with everything else so "yes" neck turning is and can be benificial as its another variable taken out of the equasion
-
it will if using those silly little 40gr things that seem to be fashionable at the moment,
-
thanks you for clarifying the matter BUT you have a match rifle and load with match dies and probably batch all your brass, which probably wont show any difference with turned or un turned brass now ALL the info on the net from "expert shooters" clearly show there is an advantage neck turning brass in a factory chamber, are these people lieing ?? or do you know better I on the other hand have persoanlly seen improovments by neck turning brass for a factory rifle, but what do I know I havnt "lined up and competed"
-
thats fine BUT dont tell people neck turning "isnt worth it" when you have no idea yourself,if your happy with average un consistant groups thats great bbut others may want that bit more so your un turned brass had perfect thickness necks in a box of 100 thats truely remarkable
-
Tim Rolf,as nice chap and bloody good keeper what ive seen so far
-
no disrespect intended here mate BUT havnt you "JUST" started reloading I dont think your qualified to comment just yet on whats needed or what can be done to achieve accuracy,at the end of the day accuracy kills the emphesis is "consistancy" which all these little tweeks add up to not necesseraly litle tiny groups
-
theres nothing wrong with wanting to get the very best from what you are using,be it in the field or on the range
-
people will say that what they use is best,Iam going to say 243AI as I use one,I wont kill any more foxes than the guy who recomends a 222,dead is dead, energy, veloicty and distance is the things to think about basically any of the popular calibers will do what you ask of it,you have to decide on what distance you will be shooting at. 222,223,22.250 all cracking varmint calibers I would go for a 22.250 as it has the extra legs and can be down loaded if you need to save a few pence on powder if your going to reload,if not 222 or 223 factory ammo will be cheaper than a 22.250 so look at those I know of a cracking 222 set up for sale if thats your thing for not a lot of money
