I feel gas rams are over advertised when compared to springers. I've been using springs for 25 years and do feel they have improved over the years - the only advantage i see is that they can remain cocked for longer periods thus enabling a quick shot. /S/

Hunting involves blood, although i havent see the pic i dont mind seeing it because when i login to forums such as this i know what i will be seeing and it is expected. Nothing to hide there. Just my thoughts. Having said that. If the Mods feel it is not suitable so be it. /S/

Gunshot is the fastest and least "stressful" (not that the animal knows :-)) way Please see a few videos on youtube on both the processes - that will give you a good idea. /S/

.177 air rifle works well for short ranges and a head shot is the best for those situations (provided they sit still). So i presume out in the wild (or a moving target) a No. 6, 8 or higher should be good. /S/

Hi Rick, Thanks for that info. Basically i guess i missed out a 'r' in the initial post :-) The summary of the query is - what is the lowest possible load in terms of Gr, wad n shot (6-9) that can be used in a 12g- this is what will be used for very close ranges - like 5 - 10 yards on pests (snakes or so) which can be safely fired without waking up the neighborhood. so what i tried to say in the initial post is - i take a regular skeet / trap cartridge and reduce the loads in them by less than half and then use cardboard wads and also reduce the shots to less than half - and so what i wanted to know was - could that recipe work for short ranges effectively. /S/
