  1. I have a copy of the reloading manual for the 80 series powders and can scan in appropriate pages for anyone, if required. Regards Andy
  2. Yes, exactly!! That's what comes from speed reading; oops!
  3. Often used by Practical Shotgunners etc.
  4. Also, have a look at the Home Office pamphlet /download on security advice - pretty comprehensive. I think that you can get it via the BASC site. Andy
  5. The Brno 581 and CZ 511 mags. are actually eight shot - I just buy one whenever I can. Last time I bought a new one it was £25. Bought a couple of 'second-users' for £15 each. I have a 581 and now I'm looking for a good 511. The Anschutz 520 / 525 semi's are top notch, too! Andy
  6. New address is: South Yorkshire Police HQ Carbrook House 5 Carbrook Hall Road Sheffield S9 2EH Not far from Arena Square. Andy
  7. Still going on; I had my letters (survey questionnaire and 'please tell us what you've got - we haven't a clue') on Saturday. I spoke with BASC a couple of weeks ago about this as I know several people who've had the letter. As they've only recently moved (again) they maybe lost a few forms down the back of the filing cabinets!
  8. Form 125 - the referee form, states the following under General Note 1, in bold: 'You are not guaranteeing their future good behaviour or conduct'. It couldn't be much clearer. As a club secretary, I sign about one a month, if not more. Just give an honest opinion, at the time when you are asked. You can do no more. Andy
  9. As already stated, 'caveat emptor'!!! For those not familiar with auctions, the descriptions may, or may not, bear some resemblance to what is being offered. Also, what you end up paying could easily be 30% or more, greater than the hammer price. Add in commission and VAT. Having said that, I've sold guns at auction and bought some great bargains, too. Good luck! Andy
  10. Thanks for sharing. An interesting story and a good reminder that the actual effect of a choke can vary from gun to gun.
  11. I have a Barska Huntmaster Pro 3-12 x 50 IR mounted on a .22 CZ452. I cannot speak about the model you mention. The one I have is not wonderful. It's OKish if you set a magnification and don't change it. I have a Hawke scope which is far better for the money. Andy
  12. Please note, the advice from shooting organisations seems to be to answer with response no. 1 to most, if not all of the questions. This is because the questionnaire is intended to be used against the shooting community and only response 1 will be counted in any way other than being negative for the shooting sports. Please take the time to answer this questionnaire, IT IS IMPORTANT! I've just come back from an international conference of organisations representing arms collectors and the consensus is that the organiser of the questionnaire is very anti gun and it trying to make things a lot worse for shooters, right across the EU.
  13. I believe that four Forces are about to pilot an online system for applications/variations and renewals. The ideas is that it will then be rolled out nationwide. Agree with Jonathan, the whole thing is currently a mess! Great if they'd modernise the actual certificate! Andy
  14. I'm not a clay shooter, so cannot comment in respect of clay shooting grounds but rifle ranges tend to have a mandatory requirement for ear protection (and increasingly, for eye protection, too). I started wearing ear plugs when I went clay shooting at the age of fourteen and was constantly ribbed for doing so. Many older shooters have compromised hearing; I'm glad that mine is still pretty good after 35 years of rifle, pistol and shotgun. As stated, most damage is irreversible so look after your yes and ears!
  15. The only .22 that I came across with a worn out barrel - and it was really kn@£$**!&ed was an old re-barreled Martini - Bonehill conversion, which was chambered for .22 Long (blackpowder); evidently, someone had not given it the TLC it deserved on the inside and it would barely group into four feet at 20 yards!
  16. Depending upon the circumstances, flare pistols / signalling pistols come under s.5 (prohibited weapon), s.1 (firearm) or even no certificate required! Why do we have such confusing legislation? Irrespective of condition I.e. all rusted solid or just major parts, the safest option would be to hand in to the police. A flare pistol is a pistol as is. It doesn't need converting. In the USA they actually sell conversion 'sleeves' which allow you to use a 12 bore cartridge BUT they are intended for use with 12 bore flares which are available in the USA. Basically, flare pistols are s.5 unless held by an individual on a s.1 certificate for signalling or part of a collection, OR held as part of the safety equipment on a seagoing vessel, hovercraft, aircraft or at an airfield. I don't think it's as common as it used to be, but often you would see them for sale at seaside antique shops etc. Completely illegal, of course. Andy
  17. Seems to vary quite a lot. I've had really good service, with three British Visitors Permits returned OK within ten days. I'm also secretary of a club in South Yorkshire, with some members getting a fast turnaround on variations and renewals and others having to wait weeks and weeks. Roll on on-line systems is all I can say! Andy
  18. Yep. Not bad for the Fiocchi 70mm primed cases, I had a box of 2000 from FES a couple of weeks ago. Seems a good deal and I've bought stuff rom him before.
  19. Ah. That explains it then. Trouble is RCBS dies are a little more money than Lee! A
  20. Funny, I shot and reloaded .357 / .38 pistol for twenty years before the ban and never had any trouble loading .38 Sp cases using RCBS .357 Magnum dies. I just had to run the bullet seater further down. If you try reloading .357 Mag. with .38Sp dies, depending upon the make / design, you might find that they are not long enough in the body, which means the base of the .357 Mag case won't be properly sized and may prove difficult to chamber. If your loads are quite light it might not be an issue. I'm not familiar with the modern Lee dies, however. ATB Andy
  21. Never ceases to amaze me how many people queue up for a half day out with the undertaker! A
  22. If an individual applies for membership of a HO Approved Club, the Secretary would advise the Police of the application. In my area (S. Yorks.) the Police write back to say if they have a problem i.e. would they definitely say 'No' to the applicant. If a negative response came back, I cannot imagine any sensible Club Secretary allowing the Probationary Membership to continue. If it's a Guest Day, we would also be asked to provide names. However, I agree, IF you are open with the Police and ask the question, you will find out and might be pleasantly surprised. Andy
  23. As a collector it's not an issue. Whenever, I ask (pay!!) for additional variations they simply re-issue a 'new' certificate. I'm astonished if some forces are allowing people to add their own piece of paper. Andy
