You can make it easier to get them into the ground by simply flattening the end with a hammer. The only drawback is they are usually made of steel and therefore heavy. Reduce the weight by chopping the inner section down a foot or so.

I'm up at Bicester (although I move to Yorkshire in 8 days) and I know there is a BASC affiliated club called the Banbury and District Woodpigeon and RC Club. Both Dan and I have tried to join with no joy. That's not to say that you can't suceed where we failed. Contact BASC for the club secretary contact details.

I've used the cheap, foam inserts and also a pair of ex military ear defenders. They both work well and are cheap to buy. With the ear defenders, you can hear perfectly normally, ie pigeons wing beats etc, if you slide one side slightly off your ear. Then of course you have to nudge it back into place just before you shoot. They cost £5 from surplus stores........ but I think the expense is worth it. :thumbs:

I've just read the complete story about this incident. I'm amazed to find that the bloke who did the stabbing is himself a convicted burglar!

I too think stabbing someone 12 times is over the top. I don't think burglary should carry the death penalty especially in that manner, but I think a good hiding would do these people the world of good. Unfortunately the average bloke isn't empowered to administer even a good hiding and if we do, then we must face the consequences. I think I would protect my family by whatever means necessary at the time and face the consequences without any feelings of shame.

But.... depending on which Police Force you are dealing with you may receive varying standards of service. For instance it took 5 months for North Yorks Police to grant me a certificate. It took them just over 6 months for them to post my certificate to Thames Valley Police. It took TVP 4 days to carry out a security check at my home and issue me with a new certificate. In the interim period I requested a temporary certificate, as mentioned by Deako, North Yorks refused to issue one stating it would take them too long to process it. Now, I understand that this is not the fault of the individual firearms dept staff members but I wonder why such a difference in performance.
