Surely if you feel you need to justify it to yourself and can't, then really you shouldn't be doing it? I personally can justify my shooting to myself as I enjoy it, I don't get windsurfing and as such I don't think I would enjoy it and therefore don't do it. Also I do not think there is enough time left in the world to justify golf , but people still do it.

Pigeon cartridge for a beginner help please
MC replied to Stratts's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
Cookoff13, I have no idea what wad that is, I did not load that cartridge. It was actually loaded by Express so I am guessing that it is probably a Vagner wad of some description. The cartridge was in a box of odds and ends I was given by someone who had given up shooting. It is an Express Special Game in a shotsize 11, 24 grams -
I don't feel it is so much respect for your quarry, I feel that there is no reason to go pigeon shooting undergunned. There is a reason why cartridge manufacturers load 6's as a mainstay pigeon load. OK so 7.5's are fine for up to about 30 yards but what happens to a pigeon that skirts around the edge of your decoys? Do you not shoot it because you might injure it? What about the high ones? again do you leave them as you do not have the shot load to deal with them? I have been shooting loads of times when the pigeons haven't wanted to play ball and have been jittery and no ammount of changing the pattern etc will make any difference. 6's (or even 5's) will ensure a clean kill out to 40 yards plus. I don't really see that saving a few quid per 1000 is worth possibly losing or not being able to shoot at a few birds.

If you find out how to load 1000 cartridges from 3kg of shot then you had best tell the rest of us. You will need 28kg of shot for 1000 28gr loads. If you PM me an e mail address I will send you loads of 20 bore data

410 Reloading in 3" anyone tried brass cases?
MC replied to graysclassics's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
Have you tried Roding Armoury at Abridge? They seem to have most things? If not then try Mays of London at Buckhurst Hill -
Thats about right, the bloody unions trampling all over London demonstrating how the cuts etc are affecting their members without so much as a thought about how their little march is affecting anyone elses business. It is a pity Thatcher didn't break a few more of them while she was at it.
