    Snipe?

I get a lot on a few of my shoots. One where I walk and train the dogs we often flush 30 odd from one field. I love watching them to be fair, however if I'm out shooting and can get a safe shot off... I will. Yes they are small, but they make a tasty treat! I wouldn't shoot them all the time but the odd one doesn't hurt.
  2. I'd have thought if you want thorn and bramble proof trousers for beating that won't leak then waxed cotton is th way to go? Any of the goretex type products will be waterproof to an extent by but start dragging it through heavy cover and you'll soon damage the fabric. I wear a full set of Musto MPX goretex waterproofs when I'm on my boat in heavy weather and I can tell you short to a dry suit it's amazing kit. Such a shame they don't make it in green for shooting! Mind you on the odd driven day in absolutely foul weather I have been known to wear it!
  3. I've got a matched pair of rizzini's in both 12 and 20. I do a fair bit of walked up rough shooting and woodcock / snipe which requires a fair bit of walking and snap shooting. The 20 weighs in at just a smidge over 6lb, so it's lovely and light to walk with. I don't swing it so well due to the light weight but for snap shooting it's ace. When in on a full driven day I tend to err on the side of the 12' as they are matched it fits identically but the extra weight helps me swing and lead the bird better. It also has the advantage if ducks are around that I can slip in some no 4s, whereas anything larger than a 5 is hard to find for the 20. Anyway, whatever, I love my 20 and probably use it more than any other gun.
  4. Echo other comments. How old is the dog? My cocker isn't daft when it comes to cover, she'll have a look see and smell, it she can't detect anything she'll move on. If she can't she'll bulldoze it down! Her brother on the other hand just charges in and smashes the cover about! I pushed mine early and put her off heavy cover for a bit, so relax it'll come good, they have good old noses!
  5. Nice cod. My best went 32lb from the same area a few years ago. The last few years I've not bothered steaming over from Poole, it's been too patchy and I don't consider it worth the fuel and average of a fish every 3 trips to get one. We've had a few up our end, plus some cracking whiting fishing. Just need a few more gaps in this wind!
  6. Awesome as always. Cracking pics, and such a beautiful part of the country.
  7. I'll take this please. PM on the way.
  8. Great vid. Out of interest, how do you film when you're stalking alone? I've done some head mounted gopro footage when using shotgun, but never thought to take the camera stalking. Your footage is very steady? Adam
  9. Excellent! Really enjoyed that. What a wonderful piece of ground. Very envious. Defiantly consider a GoPro3 they enable you to film in full HD with a host of other options. With ground, shooting, dogs and birds like you have they deserve the upgrade!
  10. Ah, don't get me wrong she is absolutely fine being left, I take her with me because I can, but the second dog thing is more me being soft rather than anything else!
  11. She is 2, and she's bang on, not far off field trail standard.
  12. At the moment my cocker rarely gets left for long in the house alone. Even when I'm working she comes with me and is in the car a lot of the day but she's fine as she's got company. Now I've just changed jobs and I won't be able to take her to work quite as much. I'm adding a kennel at home so she can toilet when left, but I'm wondering if another dog to keep her company would be a good idea? I've been toying with the idea of another anyway to avoid her having to work solo flat out all day, but what is the advice on 2 for company? Adam
  13. Oooo very tempted by this! Been after an M2 for a while and you're local.... Don't suppose you'd consider a part ex? I've got an escort 12 g that I need to shift before I can change?
  14. It's a new rifle for Sauer this year - so yes still available! http://www.sauer-101.com/
  15. Well for me anyway! Ive been trying to keep on top of the fox population on the little shoot I keeper the past few months since my birds arrived. I had a couple a few weeks ago but since then Ive had 3 blank nights out - plenty of foxes out, but all at distance and they run as soon as they see the lamp. For foxes that only get shot during the game season they are very lamp shy. Anyway, last night was a bit different. Maybe it was the last week of a full moon, or the first dry eve for a few nights, but they played ball and I managed to get onto 5 foxes and shot 4 all in 90 mins of shooting, as at 10pm the mist rolled in and it was game over. Ive been running in my new Sauer 101 in 243 and ive very impressed - super accurate. All foxes were shot where I aimed, just behind the front shoulder. I had a 22.250 Remmy before which was OK but this is in a different league - the Zeiss scope helps alot too. I'd always found fox control a bit of a chore before, but really enjoyed last night! Loads of deer about too - all bodes well for Does in Nov. Fox number 4 missing as the iphone froze so no piccy.
  16. A fair bit of my shooting is inland flights, lots of rushes etc, but it's more that I like the max 4 pattern than any other reason! Il take a look at the others...
  17. Great, thanks for that. Looks ideal. Would you rate it better than the Pro Logic?
  18. Can anyone recommend a decent jacket in max 4 camo? I want it mainly for fowling. Not fussed about it being warm as I can layer up, but I want it tough and waterproof. The only ones I can find are the Pro Logic ones, which seem bulky and nasty?
  19. Mine came today. Very impressed! I've had jack pyke stuff before and frankly it's been a bit ***te, this is altogether a great bit of kit. Really well put together, double stitched, reinforced etc. the clip on lifting handle could be useful, I like the cordura chest patch which is where they alway suffer injury. The extra flotation chambers would be helpful if working the dog in choppy conditions. The XS size is perfect for a little cocker, a large cocker or small springer would probably want a Small. I've got some pics but can't upload them off the ipad. I'll try and get them up tomorrow.
  20. Just made some of this. 750ml Famous Grouse Juice of 1 lemon 2 tablespoons of honey 2 tablespoons of brown sugar 1 vanilla pod 2" piece of grated fresh ginger All ingrediants bar the whiskey simmered for a few mins and than added together. Will leave for a month and report back. Adam
  21. http://www.jackpyke.co.uk/products/gundog-range/technical-neoprene-vest.aspx Have a look on Google or Ebay, loads of places selling them. It seems this one gets the best reviews and goes small enough for spaniels. I did read that many if the other jackets are American based and even the small ones are huge... I guess like many things, everything is bigger in the US! Once it's here ill post a pic up.
  22. So I'm thinking: .22lr, 17hmr, 17 Mach, 22 hornet, 204, 222, 223, 22-250, 243, 6.5x55, 270, 308, 30-06 How many more? I guess I could include shotgun cases to expand the display? 12, 16, 20, 28, 410.... Then maybe an 10 and 8 bore case?
  23. Anyone ever set one of these up? I'm thinking of a display case / picture frame with say the common rounds in use nowadays from .22 to 30-06 or whatever? How hard would it be to do? I don't want just the brass, I'd like the bullets in too, but obviously they would need to be empty rounds? Is it going to be too much of a pain in the rear? Would people on here help out if I covered the postage?
