went to same field as previous 2 weeks. still a few pigeons in the area and feeding on lots of grain that hasn;t germinated just lying on dry soil had no rain in april until yesterday.the seed that had been drilled under soil had. anyway thought give em an hour see how it goes very little wind to make em move. so set up at 2.45 after the hour i had 7 down. but the wind started to pick up about 4 and more pigeons started to move so decided to stick at it and they started to flight in a bit better shot another 24 woodies an 3 ferals by 6pm they dried up so called it a day but well worth it picked 31 woodies and 3 ferals. lost 3 in the wood in the background for 45 carts.

nearest land to me on nppc list is between 65 miles and 75miles in yorkshire with more land further away also nearest in staffs is 70 miles with land further away than that also but i set meself a boundary on how far to travel to look for birds lthe land in both counties can be traveled to in 1hr 15 mins. also when you get to know the fields you can shoot mainly rape that same field might be wheat or barley etc the year after so increases your chance to shoot birds and when out looking at cut rapefields if not cut or no pigeons on them .i have found birds on the barley or wheat stubble fields quick phone call to john off you go.

same here shoot on a farm local to me not had peas in for 15 years but this year there in and its a good area for pigeons but not a bird on them and the peas are well up. didn;t get any when the field was drilled either. but maybe like has been said may and june could come good.

i;m from st helens about 20 miles from you and yes lots up yorkshire end but a fair bit round staffordshire area shot both areas and done well from both you get bad days like anywhere else but had more good than bad.

no worries its just that i was reminded by a member last week to add on thats all

on one farm last year we took over 600 from drillings in march and stubble in july aug sept. this year same farm 3 on drilled wheat. but on the other hand different farm always has rape on 1 or 2 fields alternating and in winter for last 9 years you struggle to make a bag. but this year shot around 300 from about 8 shoots. also shot more this month on drill and short rape than i did in feb and march. so all i can say numbers do appear to be down some areas but up in others. and we shoot land 20 miles apart in some cases. so still up for debate.

all very well but i:m reading up on others going out and shooting pigeons but not adding on i know this because there avatar and name don;t show up on this topic.

as long as there is seed on the field and before it germinates so next saturday would be worth a look.

result. good when you get a mixed day like used to get loads of mixed days years ago meself only get em once in a while now. also how did blackies react to your whirly when im out if a crow comes within 100 yards and see it spinning it stands on its tail and heads in another direction.

cheers mate i use 30g 6 shot express pigeon specials and rio 30g 6 shot both as good as each other and good price. the stealth nets are very good they have been around a while now had mine 6 years and still going strong good thing about em is they blend in with just about any background from spring to autum. but not winter hedgerows and trees then i use a darker net to blend with the winter foilage.

got 38 today puts my total up to 547 dont know running total overall not many updating
