  1. that is some shooting. if we could have been set up at 10am and shot till about 7pm we would have doubled the bag no problem me dad was shooting a 20 bore and run out of shells he only took 50 with him not expecting much shooting luckily i took 100 with me so we ended up shooting my gun and my shells between us towards the end.
  2. i;m sure you will. gonna have look at some peas meself tomorra not much wind forecast but you never know.
  3. we got colin some deer stalking in the lake district for nothing from another farmer we know.so if any pigeons are on his patch he lets us have first dibs at em and he shoots with us sometimes on our permissions. cracking bloke and he does pest control for a living.
  4. put the rotary in front of the decoy pattern about 20 yards from your hide and leave a gap of 10 yards between decoys and rotary hope that helps thats the standard setup i use.try it out
  5. wont go out without one meself i;m not saying they work each and every time you put it out i have pulled it in sometimes and like you say improves the situation but my own experiences it works 9 times out of 10.we had ours out today and it pulled most of the birds in from a distant flightline over the boundary which statics wouldn;t have done. also some birds came to have a look and just skirted round it just out of shot so we had both experiences of most birds commiting totally and some not having it.
  6. me old fella got a call from colin a shooting mate of ours last night to tell him to get down to his permission that we shoot also from time to time because farmer had been complaining about the pigeons hitting the rape and with him working couldn;t do anything with em.so off we went today only got set up for 1pm due to the fact we had to get a gate to the field opened and colin had the key and could only get there for 12.30.never the less birds were flighting in from all directions while we waited for him to come so knew best place to be and we only shot for 3 hours the oldie had to be somewhere tonight so we had to pack up at 4.30 with birds still wanting to come in a bit frustrating having to leave. but still an excellent bag picked 96 lost about another 6. ] pic of the old un counting the bag.
  7. its the same old story 1 madman with certified guns goes on the rampage and we are all left picking up the pieces as usual. don;t know how the government can make a already tight gun law even more tighter so in the end it will become impossible to obtain a license in the first place so the only other solution is for issuing police forces to look into a crystal ball when you apply and see what you will do in the future. i know one thing for sure if another incident like this happens again we can all kiss our certificates goodbye.
  8. only takes one gun to go on a shooting spree be it a shotgun or pistol or rifle and they found a shotgun at the scene .
  9. sorry to hear about the incident and innocent lives lost in your location caused by that evil ******* its happened before.as we all know just keeps fanning the flames for the antis and as i have said it will have an effect with all of us who own guns .
  10. wish nutters like this would not give us law abiding shooters a bad name whatever any of us think it is unfortunatley going to effect us in one way or another at some point
  11. have a look at this pigeon shooting web site in portugal called toraces.com but unless you can read portugese and i don;t its hard work but just toy around on it for a bit and if vedas comes up click on it and you will see thousands of pigeons coming in to feed and migrating also some vids of pigeons passing and coming into olive groves being shot. and they make some big bags looking at the photo galleries and you will find out where woodpigeons migrate to.
  12. i agree with highlanders post.also my opinion no they are not in decline last year i had my best year out of over 23 years shooting them somtimes just looking for them.not every trip is succesfull you can look at a field one week and nothing there go again the week or a couple of days later and it can be full of pigeons creature of habit the woody;have seen countless birds at moment on horse paddocks and pastures dotted around all over the place. if you look at the annual running totals posted on here over last 4 years it averages around 23;500. so if this years total comes near to that it will give a good indication at end of year
  13. same here been 4 times looking and not a pigeon on them and no other peas for em to go at in a 10 mile radius. its a great pigeon area normally. shot good bags on winter rape and summer stubbles in the last 3 years. i know i keep harping on about how puzzled i am. but it is very strange; put rape in same area and you cant see the fields for pigeons covering them. :
  14. pleased for yer first spring rape bag i have come across on here and people i know
  15. well done good day on the peas still nothing touching them were im looking.
  16. forgot about that one meself how many times does that happen at the end of a session things slow down not a bird in sight for 20 mins think to yourself pack up in a bit soon as you do bird appears sees you and flares away.
  17. can you think of any more hot decoying tips? yes go back to the car for something you forgot to bring to the hide another good one. also put your gun down to ajust the height of the hide
  18. great day went out meself today didn;t take even me gun out the slip with all that rain.
  19. 2005 was first shoot i went that year and 06. 07. 08. then sold me beretta and purchased a miroku mk38 and never looked back.could borrow a beretta if wanted to but meon springs is a long way from me so overnight stay fuel and shoot fee expensive for a days claying unless you can pick up.
