  1. by all means decoy them on pasture if the birds are on the clover i do from time to time. a bit of advice if cattle are using said fields use fibre wads they can be digested. plastic wads can;t if taken in by cattle when feeding on the grass when you have left
  2. so if you use 71/2s on duck geese and pheasant you will kill them cleanly... they are fine for snipe and clays. if its not down to the cartridge your mate must not be giving enough lead then. its my personal opinion that i prefer 6s for the job.and yes if you have read me last 3 posts i put me cartridge count and bag total. also lost and hit birds so there you go i still hit a few that fly on not to many i will add. used 6s for pigeon duck partridge pheasant crows rabbits woodcock even a couple of geese when out rough shooting so not blaming the shell at all its the same with any shot size if you don;t put the pattern right on the bird. i just think they are better suited than 71/2s as an all round shot size and so do a lot of shooters i have been out in the field with who have been doing it a lot longer than you and i.
  3. thanks for the info guys was thinking of giving up on em on the peas after 4 fruitless trips but seems they are turning there attention to them although i;m seeing decent numbers of em on the clover when driving to and from work. even seen a flock of about 200 lift from a rape field beleive it or not.
  4. have the same problem 4 weeks in a row now nothing on the peas seems everyone is same at moment bit baffling
  5. if you are willing to pay a bit more i would consider the new browing maxus getting one myself ordered one in at local gun shop they had em on the shelf but in camo and composite i prefer the wood finish heard great things about em most reliable and fastest cycling semi auto on the market £1000 new or £850 second hand.
  6. i;m sure you will so post a pic when you do
  7. if they are not on it now. they will find it.i personally and certain others have shot birds on spring rape in mid june that goes for peas as well
  8. not a bad win for the saints
  9. keep an eye on the rape you mentioned and you will get a good bag because they only have limeted crops at moment one is spring rape another peas and clover until we all get some laid cereals and stubble to go at.
  10. you will bring em in with a magnet i gather they dont get shot at to often so shouldn;t be wary of a rotary or 2 thats the key if they are not feeding on your permission and just passing on a flightline look for a point down a hedge or a tree that they pass and set up there on the grass with decoys and rotary if you have one
  11. heh we got beat by salford at weekend hang our heads in shame
  12. for a long time now its known how good at clays he his best in the world at sporting in my opinion; but when he shot the record bag at the time he says he fired over 1050 shells and picked 661 found 37 that was hit and flew on the day after dotted around the area so hit around 700 pigeons in total that works out at about 70 pigeons per 100 shots approx compare his average with clays around 93 per 100 just goes to show that the woodies can test the best in the buisiness let alone us mere mortals .havin said that i shot 88 pigeons the other week and fired 105 shells well picked 82 hit 6 that went down but couldn;t find.just waitin now for the big head jibes and who do you think are you coments and my reply would be better than george digweed
  13. forgot to add in my last post how many birds are pricked at 40 50 yards with 71/2s ok have used em meself in the past when i run out of shells on a hot day when the birds were coming in and i only had 1 box of 71/2s left in the car left over from a clay shoot id been to but i hit a good few that flew on in a cloud of feathers when 6s would bring em down its only fair to the quarry to use suitable carts.

  15. could be true if it is keep on shooting because we will never diminish the pigeon population if thats the case
  16. maybe you would have had more if you didnt have to leave the field to go to work.
  17. great bag not many posts with birds shot over peas at the moment but still time i hope
  18. it determines how wide or tight your shot pattern is as it leaves the barrel. less choke bigger spread.more choke tighter pattern.
  19. one shot whilst the other had gun broke with no shells in gun. and his daugther was closely supervised by both of us when shooting the winged pigeons thought i best clear that up. like you say before it starts an avalanche of posts not in favour of it.
  20. for time of year unless you have hundreds or thousands on peas or spring rape i have neither, had a look at fields i shot 88 from last week some birds still around area and on closer inspection of the fields told me the pigeons were after chick weed and small amounts of rape growing in the wheat. i bumped into a guy who also has permission and he said he shot 31 the previous day on the same field. we watched for a while and both decided to give em another go and shared the hide also with his 9 year old daughter who for the whole time we shot couldn;t sit still and bobbed about every time a pigeon came near us. kept her quiet by letting her shoot some winged birds with her single barrel 410.so let her have her picture taken with the bag because how she put it.i got 2 of them. picked 20.
  21. in a nutshell use 1 ounce of 71/2s for clays and 30gram 6s for pigeon.
