  1. Kinnel, I initially made reference in my post that someone would probably question the result - but edited it out thinking I was just being too pedantic. How old are you martin? That's not an insult - I ask because your beginning to sound like one of those old men up on the balcony in the muppet show and it's a well known fact that folk get a bit tetchy as they get older.
  2. I found one of these kitchen devils works well. It basically two steels set at an angle to each other which you rest on a cloth and pull your knife through. click here
  3. Excellent news mate and thanks for updating us. It just goes to show how easily someone with a grudge about shooting can mess us about for a while. I had a near escape too just recently when some kid spotted me behind a mesh fence in camo while carrying a rifle. When the investigating officer pointed out that there is nothing unlawfull about a landowner having his rabbits shot the dad was so desperate to get rid of a local shooter that he initially implied I had aimed my rifle at his boy. It seems that some people move nearer to the country to enjoy it - but don't like some of what they see.
  4. (2) The crosshairs should remain constantly on the tatget regardless of scope magniication. You don't say what retical the Mamba has. If it has dots they will move closer or further apart as the magication is adjusted. (1) Sounds like you got some good advice - now leave the zero alone mate. Here is a thread that may help you out: click
  5. I'm going to guess that your previous shooting experience is with a shottie - if I've got this wrong please forgive me. Your "zero" refers to zero hold over or under at a certain distance with your particular barrel length, caliber, bullet type and brand. Most people I know would typically use a 22lr subsonic round at between 30 yards and 70 yards when hunting bunnies. I lamp quite a lot over undulating fields and find 50 yards to be more of an average distance than your 60 yards - but there is more to my particular set up that would complicate this thread and take it off topic. That 50 yard distance is my PRIMARY zero - where the bullet is losing height through a trajectory curve relative to the view through my scope which is probably about 2 inches above the barrel. The bullet passes through the scope view on the way up the curve too. The point at which the bullet passes through the scope on its way up the trajectory curve is about 22 yards with my set-up, so that distance would be my SECONDARY zero. I don't get too pedantic at exact distances but the bullet is within an inch of the zero from about 15 yards to about 65 yards. At either end of those distances a certain amount of hold over would get the bullet into the kill zone of a rabbit. No doubt other members will add to this for you - some of them will be using a 60 yard zero and will describe their setups and reasoning.
  6. Brevity is a strong point of mine yup and yup
  7. Blimey mate - how many would have thought of that? I'd bet there's maybe a web site for advice on how to disable car alarms and stuff.
  8. I read this as tinbum being an easier token response than the ####'s who aint going to get took on are they? I've also heard a rumour that undue pressure may have been applied from an ex plod who bought a house nearby for peace and tranquility. It's possible he knows the right buttons to press eh? Either way tinbum is keeping calm and polite, not making waves to inflame the situation. I gues he'll not bother posting for help or advice here very often.
  9. This brings back some nice memories for me thanks Martin, but those first two photos would be unproductive locations Whole new meaning to rock fishing though mate. Do you use a launce hook for getting your "sandeels"?
  10. I presume yer a bit lexdysic like me Martin... My name is DAVE Overall I'm very pleased with the LaserScope - but it has been a tad troublesome. Battery life is poor - the auto shut off doesn't work so I have fitted a rocker switch to disconnect the battery till I want to use it. You could just remove it after every outing instead I guess. I think it's occasionally losing zero, but not quite sure as the first time I started shooting low the brass baffles in my sound mod had corroded. It could be that it's just sensitive to knocks because it grouped an inch or so low at 50 yards again a couple of days ago. The focusing is unusual in that it's done with the occular (rear) lense, so you sometimes lose the well defined retical in favour of a clear image of the target. I presume this is something to do with the front lense carrying the reflected laser receptor/antenna. The front of the mounting rail has a piece out of the underside - possibly to allow spent shells to clear easier on some rifles.: it needs faffing about with when initially fitting it - but a good fiddler would manage it ok. It has a startup time loss where it displays the measurement mode in yards or meters for a few seconds before it can be used, then if a succesfull measurement was made it displays that too for a few seconds. The display is not too obtrusive to take a shot while the display is lit in daylight but at night you will need to wait for the display to timeout. It can't be long before second generation ones come available which would probably address most of these issues. I would not have paid the UK price for one of these but am happy with the US value for money for the new technology. The first two ballistic retical dots are brilliantly spaced for both my 17HMR and .22lr barrels. I dont really get to use any of the other dots yet as I don't do much laying up. Make sure you have an alternative mounting solution for your gunlamp. Finally - after all that - I'm told it doesnt work at moderate air rifle ranges - it's claimed to be from 50 yards to 550 yards on deer: to 800 on reflective targets. I can find the distance to one of my neighbours brick gable end at 43 yards.
  11. Good bit of publicity for shooting there. If a picture paints a thousand words that clip painted a million.
  12. In addition to all of the above, rimfire rifles are still good with much shorter barrels than the old days when iron sights were more accurate further apart. They also produce much less pressure when fired so don't need to be quite so robust as CF. Welcome bud, and don't be shy about asking questions here. If you don't know you'll possibly make a wrong guess that leaves you worse off. The forum actually works better asking questions that invite an answer rather than telling members about something that does'nt really need many replies.
  13. Are these the type of thing your looking for? click here click here
  14. Windows live local works better for me as far as permission mapping with road names etc click here
  15. I've often wondered how the plethora of temp staff agencies concentrated in one small part of town manage to get so much work - and why so few unskilled vacancies appear in the local papers. I can well imagine how some firms like the flexibility of this arrangement. I'm about done with my meagre profits from cab driving now few people have the spare cash to spend on a night out and have looked long and hard for unskilled work that an ageing asthmatic with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease could manage. This might mean more firms advertising their vacancies again - which would work for me at least.
  16. Thanks chaps - I'll maybe find a good high ground lay-up position just prior to the harvest then. Having a Google - it seems to preceed wheat. Is the stubble left before drilling for long so we can just drive over it as needed?
  17. Worst case scenario is I think he'd get the AA to recover to his house down there (he's in Cornwall for another break) - about 2 miles away by road. Then maybe get someone to remove the toad installation.

Would that be the block works mate? Saw a few over St Just and Pendeen way when I was a kid
  19. HE HE - I think the driver would probably take off PDQ if he sees Chris in camo with a 223 in an accuracy int stock etc Disconnecting the battery has done no good so its a 2 hour wait to see if the AA can help.
  20. OOH ECK! Chris and I usually hide our car keys in an unlikely place somewhere near our cars so we don't have to carry our rifles home if we happen to lose them climbing over hedges or whatever. I just had a call off him to try and Google a 'what to do if your code fails to respond' or whatever. He thinks maybe part of the stone he hid them under pressed and held a button for over an hour. He has the second fob with him and has tried that one too but cant disarm the alarm. It seems that the user cannot reset the code, perhaps to stop it's theft by a car valet or whatever. He's currently disconnecting the car battery for a while to see if anything resets. Any ideas please gents?
  21. Thats them - thanks Johnathan
  22. They have a very good wage - allready very generous for what they do in comparison to many lower paid people who cannot hold a firm or country to ransom. They think they're hard done by because the oil companies make millions. In fairness the oil companies invest billions to make their millions. As for the antisocial hours, lack of normal family time and some tricky aspects to their job... welcome to the world that many of us live in.
  23. I'm curious about what crop is on some of my permissions but don't want to show the farmer my ignorance by asking. I rather hope some of you can help. The crop is between 2 and 3 feet tall with broad light green leaves. The "pen" size upper stems are just about square - and hollow! about a quarter of the way from the top there are clumps of white flowers with dark brown or black patches on them - and the base or bud that the petals came from have a pink hue. I can get a photo if need be, but hopefully the description will ring someones bell. Thanks in advance.
  24. I'm in disagreement with how many taxi drivers my new boss has put on the firm I sub contract to. We now earn less than £250 after our operating expenses - while he makes £95 more out of each new driver he shares the work load between. Most taxi drivers are struggling now there is much less spare cash to spend on leisure activities like pubs and restaurants. Lucky for me my mortgage is almost finished. I can vote with my feet or try the dole - end of. If I had £500 after taxes (a wage of £750+?) for a job that did'nt need an apprenticeship or several years training I'd be thinking what a lucky chappie I am rather than risk it all in greed for more. Sorry if this effects any members on here but if it does you are very lucky. Having said the above I can see a case for a higher wage in area's with a higher cost of living than most of the country. EDIT: Up until about 2 years ago my wage WAS over £500 - and I WAS a happy chappie
