  1. Westley, I have to agree with you. I am surrounded by fields used to grow Supermarket vegetables, regularly ravaged by pigeons , went to see Farmer for permission . Not a chance . I cannot even shoot over fallow fields due to the risk of lead contamination to the soil . Detected possibly in the harvested produce at a later date.
  2. Any views on deciding results by using countback ? A friend shot an equal high score yesterday and we were gone home by 11.30 . Equal score was handed in at 15.30 . Because we were not available for shoot off prize was forfeited????? Should we really wait around for 4+ hours ? Thoughts and any problems please, will be appreciated.
  3. Yes, I think that Palethorpes in Market Drayton may well have sold 'Sausage Fingers'😄😄
  4. Westley , I think your comments may be incorrect. Most food processers have sensors on the conveyor belts that shutt down the belt if contaminates are detected such as metallic particles and pitch or bitumastic . A factory near here in Hereford certainly does and it can detect clay fragments. Perhaps another 'old wives ' tale to drive another nail into the shooting sports coffin?
  5. Coal comes out of the environment , pitch / tar comes out of the environment, limestone comes out of the environment , Lead comes out of the environment . What is the issue , Thomas Luke ? Let us not play cloak and dagger , tell us what you would like to research and why and I am sure we will all be only happy to help.
  6. Agreed , but we all do not seem to agree what the correct way is?
  7. Times change and people have very valid points of view. Maybe it is time for us all to give this some serious thought? If we close gun wood to barrels whilst holding out front , we risk shooting at beaters which is a no! NO! If we close barrels pointing at ground we risk ricochet from rocks or stones . If we close barrels at an angle we risk damaging dog or neighbours . So vigilance and care is required at all times .
  8. I have been involved with range judging as part of the BASC thing since Dr John Harridine introduced it years ago . Regularly pattern cartridges, and often when walking my dogs I judge a distance and then pace it out , even been known to measure it with a surveyors tape ( Wife thinks I'm mad). I started this thread because of comments made by an 'expert' , I wanted to seek others views and opinions. As soon as I get some time I will be patterning 4s & 5s in various loads at distances in excess of 40 yards to confirm to myself at what distance I will have a useable pattern with what cartridge . I appreciate any sensible comments and input . I am only interested in fibre or wool wadded cartridge performance as I think it is time to set an example by not polluting the planet anymore than necessary . For those of you interested in this subject , may I recommend that you get a copy of 'Some Shooting Questions Answered ' by John Lennie published in 2010 by John Roberts Design & Print www johnroberts-designprint.co.uk. I have lost John Lennie's contact details but feel sure Ivor Beavis at Checkley Game Farm / Shoot near Nantwich will have Mr. Lennie's contact details.
  9. I had a very good day today , shot a number of Pheasants well in excess of 40yds with Hull Imperial Game 30 gram 5s. on one drive this afternoon shot 12 for 20 cartridges , so I doubt it was luck or stray pellets.
  10. If I was paying £4000 plus per day I would be wanting to hit quiet a few birds , not have my misses edited out.
  11. Taking this a little further , would it be correct to assume that all the various films on Youtube including the Dave Carrie ones are not shooting at the ranges they say they are or how far they seem due to the camera shortening the apparent distance ? Are the very high birds shown at the various shoots not as high as we think due to an inability to correctly range judge? IF they are in excess of 70 yards up , can someone explain the success rate please?
  12. I see BASC are seeking a judicial revue ? How long will this take ? Surely the Chair Peter Glenser has enough experience to know whether this action was lawful to ban us shooting and hopefully the wheels are in motion to change?
  13. Thank you for your replies so far , interesting isn't it? I would be very interested in seeing your calculations Burpster? In fact I am very interested in any scientific works or answers to this subject . I will eventually (soon) be doing some pattern tests at this range .
  14. Fred Taylor used to write in Shooting Times , he used a Dutch oven often . Used to love his advice ,recipes, and articles , sadly these men are long gone now we only hear about gujons?
  15. Interesting replies , but sadly not constructive either in helping or confirming that fibre is viable . Such shoots as Brigands , Whitfield , Sweet Lamb , Lechwyddygart etc. often show birds at 70 yards plus and greedy B's do shoot at them. So I'll ask again , are fibres up to the job? Burpster , 36 gram , 40 gram and larger loads of 4's & 5's are shot through 3/4 & Full chokes . Pattern (central thickness) will be adequate but not too sure about kinetic energy .
  16. Any experience using fibres at long distance Pheasants? I am informed by an 'expert' that fibres are not effective at Pheasants at ranges over 70 yards. I cannot comment on this matter myself as I am very happy with the size of my testicles and have no wish to show off . Any comments gentlemen?
  17. I load Black powder for a couple of hammer guns I have , it saves me a fortune . 12 bore clay loads are not economical to load but I think everything else is , my time is free.
  18. Surely BASC and the Wildfowling organisations should be asking ? I think they have more influence than myself.
  19. Could someone explain to me what exactly we are doing wrong and unlawful on Welsh Public land? Don't we as taxpayers pay for that land ? Why can a single person weild such power without a real logical , legal reason?
  20. West Midland Shooting Ground Hodnet have Beretta tweed items on their sale rack , phone and ask for Debbie.
  21. Raw & Wriggley , Ask for Peter Mayo or Carl at Sporting Supplies Bloxwich , they supply all reloading components. Lyalvale Express at Lichfield also supply , powders , wads , shot .
  22. Well ! What a sorry state of affairs Welsh Wildfowlers now find themselves in. As a long time member of Dyfi ( Dovey ) Wildfowlers I recently received a club notification of the state of affairs , effectively our activities are to be severely curtailed because od draconian measures implemented by an authority that obviously has little or no idea of the subject matter . As a publically (taxpayers) funded authority , how can they railroad such things through with a total disregard to the feelings and way of life of their population? Wildfowlers and BASC have been in talks for years to find an amicable settlement of issues , but suddenly all consultation and negotiation is scrapped and the heavy hand is slapped down . Is now not the right time to make our feelings really shown ?
  23. As the rumour started because Gamebore do have to buy Lead . In ingots.
  24. Pardon my asking , but are all MP's corrupt and incapable of representing their electorate? Why are we in such a mess over Brexit? We were not in the EU before Maggie dumped us in it and if I remember correctly we did alright with our economy then. It costs us a fortune to be in it , money that could be put to better use in Britain. We don't need a Referendum , we voted already to leave , we don't need a dithering Mrs May or a Loony Corbyn . We need all of them to get off there backsides and debate and work on things we the electorate need . As for HS2 put another track alongside the one we already have , there is room and we could save millions of £'s and beautiful Countryside . That was a Party Political Broadcast on behalf of Common Sense.
  25. I am sorry to say that Jeremy was initially educated here in Newport Shropshire . Check him out , he has always been inept at everything he does , lots of evidence of his loony leanings and YOU want him to run the Country ?
