Salopian replied to Salop Matt's topic in Guns & Equipment
Gordon , As stated earlier a fibre wad is manufactured to a larger diameter than overbored barrels ! -
Natural Resources Wales bans game shooting on its land

Ian Danby of BASC spoke very eloquently and made some very valid points , let's see how NRW get on with their land management in the future , I hope they don't make as much of a hash of it as the RSPCA ,RSPB, and Sir Paul McCartney have done ! With their Lands. -
Back bored 12bore - Fibre Game Cartridge.
Salopian replied to Salop Matt's topic in Guns & Equipment
I have just measured a plastic obturator and a new fibre wad , obturator diameter is 0.715" and wad is 0.725 " given that the wad will be compressed and will bulge due to compressive forces upon ignition , I would not think it will be an issue in a quality made cartridge in a Browning gun? -

panoma1, No , I think they are just ordinary folk, who don't frequent forums or buy rubbish shooting magazines . They just get together and go shooting . Seems perfectly reasonable to me . Unless someone who hasn't got a clue about Countryside life brings a stop to it , without any resistance from overpaid , idle , shooting association employees who just sit back and don't lift a finger . -

I have just worked this afternoon with a party of 21 Welsh shooters from Aberdovey / Aberystwyth who had no idea about this going on . Surely the Welsh Assembly need to inform those affected? Obviously not ! -
I seem to remember Guns Review waas published by a Tory who thought politics paid better ? Anthony Wedgewood Benn?

To the OP , contact Andrea Roach at Dryfire , she is most helpful and will answer any of your queries.

Not wishing to teach my Granny to suck eggs , but in this modern age I thought the following may be helpful? Find a piece of thick wall steel tube the I.D. being the size of card wad you wish to make , grind the mouth of the steel tube to a knife sharp angle and punch out your own card wads using beer mats as the correct card. Hope this saves some of you a few pence.

Scully , Contact Simon the Gunsmith at Doveridge shooting ground , a specialist to the trade for fitting adjustable combs . If you cut the comb , just the width of the blade will obviously result in a lower comb height ?

An excellant example of a greedy unsafe gun at 5.00 minutes .

It is worth your while to check out SxS at West Midland Shooting Ground Hodnet Shropshire . Many , many interesting guns from £125 upwards .

I am surprised no-one has mentioned holding the stock against your hip and then using the increased leverage of the barrels pointed at an angle at the ground (in front) makes a gun, especially a new one that maybe stiff easy for a lady or child to close ? Once closed a careful glance around for any obvious danger will allow the gun to be raised ready for firing.

Why wasn't BBC expert ********** interviewed? Mervyn Hardly?

Well I sat and watched this sensational drivel which did not one bit of good for the Black man in Britain . It was basically Rapper advert for Gang War Fair . I see a few more were shot in London last night? Come on Met . get a grip for mercies sake , you no doubt have a very good idea what is going on but because of PC and fear of someone playing the Race card you sit by and do very little . Get one thing very straight , any de-activated weapon can be made functional by a determined engineer with a workshop at their disposal , ammunition , cases and components can be made or sourced . New Laws will do nothing except create red tape . The Lawless do not observe LAW. Stop the tide of violence at source , in the Gangs and because of lack of education and severe penalties for criminals . Call me a Dinosaur but bring back hardship in Jails , poor food , hard work and no privaliges and let us see where that gets us . Deportation to Colonies where a lot of our migrant vermin comes from may also help. The featured Barrister was an embarrassment , put the kettle on Mother before it gets confiscated .

Salopian replied to Agriv8's topic in Clay Pigeon Shooting
Glad , you enjoyed both experiences Agriv8, Hilton is run by members for members, and yes we do have a few no-birds if the wind changes as we shoot between a lot of trees as you know . Alternative Sundays to Hilton we have The Wergs over the other side of the Motorway , so any Sunday you can shoot in that area. Enjoy. -
We won't be leaving the EU? Plus we won't believing the EU, this surely is Rip Off the British people . Could some one please explain the economics of being a member of the EU and the amount we British pay for the privelage? We are an Island and I think we should isolate ourselves from EU and be able to free trade , bring back the British Empire and let's find our backbone.

pattern testing ,over bored barrels worth the hype ?
Salopian replied to a topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
A good point Wigeon Jim , but when the manufacturer lies or misquotes velocity does 100fps really matter when the clay is only travelling at 59fps and you have a surplus of around a 1000fps in the cartridge. -
pattern testing ,over bored barrels worth the hype ?
Salopian replied to a topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
Stevo, To answer your questions :- It is standard practice to evaluate patterns from the average of ten shots , not just one . Neil Winston , an American technoid did extensive testing of numerous overbored barrels and produced graphs and charts to back up his research . It showed no meaningful difference between overboring and the industry standard of 0.729" bore . If overboring is so wonderful , how do we explain the exceptional performance of 20 & 28 bores using same loads as a 12 bore performing equally as well and in certain cases even better? At the end of the day it's a tube with a constriction throwing an ounce of lead into the sky ! I have witnessed exceptional Game shots shooting 20's & 28's outperforming their friends using a 12 bore . I don't think anyone as persevered with a 20 or 28 in clay shooting so we may never know the real answers . But finally if a DT11 is so wonderful , why haven't other manufacturers gone down this route ? -

Could you do 10 or better still 25 shots of each and compare please? I have my doubts as to if overboring is worth all the trouble . -

I would also mention to them that they can be held responsible for the lead contamination and may be liable for cleansing the site of the spent lead .

Dog walker in pea crop calls the police Part 2
Salopian replied to ShropshireSam's topic in Talk From The Field
Sam, Agreed , you were doing it properly , as you know I would have been out and about with the dogs and saw where you were . But as we all know , we can't fix stupid . With the acreage we have there at our disposal we are bound to have dog walkers passing by and we are sadly also going to have issues with them . The top field by Church Aston is attracting a lot of birds due to the crop being knocked down by dogs and walkers , but sadly I think it is not advisable to shoot over it because of the new houses proximity. Thankfully we have lots of choice around there so good luck with a few days good sport.
