  1. Not sure about the elitism tag directed at top clay shooters. I shot better many years ago competing against Jim Stafford - won British Open, Colin Foden - 2nd in World FITASC, Brendan Frost 3rd in World FITASC, Kevin Mayor - Britsh Open winner. At some point - beat all, bar Brendan Frost . All of these shot a mixture of big competitions and "straw bale" shoots. More recently - John Stafford - World DTL Champion, John Twigg - won more DTL shoots than you can point a stick at. Not one of these didn't do the smaller competitions as well. It also has to be said that there are some thoroughly decent human beings in there. Jim Stafford won many competitions, but was still a great bloke - something that sems to have rubbed off on his son John. John Twigg - smashing bloke. Kevin Mayor - no airs and graces about him.
  2. Bit of an odd post. Where are you? There are autos for sale on here, Guntrader or a gunshop. What exactly is the problem? So long as you have a licence that is.
  3. There are a few decent ones there, but Lauronas are the most rust resistant by a mile and solidly made. If you want it to last - Laurona.
  4. They had run out of Eley and I needed some quickly.
  5. I've had bad experiences with D and J felt wads. Barrels took a bit more scrubbing than my boresnake. Plastic seem okay.
  6. Against my better judgement, I bought some D and J plastic wad shells yesterday. MCAvoys had run out of Eleys. Also bought some Hull Comp X from Cheshire Gun Room. I have to say that the D and J were cleaner (Can't believe I just said that) and gave better kills. I still wouldn't touch their felt wad. A mate who used some of my Hull Comp X had three jams in his Beretta Teknys Gold auto in the first 50.
  7. Top of the range Vostock. Best gun I have ever picked up.
  8. I agree about making it good. If you literally sawed it in half and left his half flapping, it will clearly damage it. You will almost certainly need his consent. Even if you don't particularly get on, I would advise you to approach him. If you don't, I suspect it is going to cost you a lot of money later.
  9. Harlem Jonns Reshuffle - they never made the big time, but singer - Stuart Widdall is still going strong fronting another band. Seen a lot of big names over the years and some big disappointments, when playing live, but these were the best by a mile. Never really made it outside the North - sadly.
  10. Bates at Stafford have a decent range. Not sure if that is too far.
  11. Browning and Winchester chokes fit.
  12. Ten a penny? Cobblers. Top flight actor and tremendous person. I don't want to get into an argument, but detractors are idiots.
  13. BOBBIN MILL SHOOTING GROUND Scorton - Sunday morning Skeet DTL and Compak. 01524 791 507 BLACKPOOL GC Back Lane, Greenhalgh, nr Kirkham, Preston, Lancs Tel: 07730 409 415 DOLPHIN CLAY TARGET CENTRE. Nice people who run it. Just off motorway and about 20 odd miles from you. http://www.rishtonclayshoot.co.uk/ TOPLANDS FARM WOODPLUMTON - near Preston - decent Sporting shoot and good food. WYRE GC - in your immediate area. http://claycoach.com/WyreGunClub.html
  14. Blackpool Gun Club Back Lane Greenhalgh. About one mile from the Kirkham / Fleetwood roundabout on the motorway. . Claycounters, but they are sensible about no-birds. Drinks and hot food. Big sporting layout - you can do 50,75 or 100. Good targets. My only reservation is that sometimes the targets become a test of eyesight. Overall highly recommended. 07730 409415
  15. Top actor - top human being. Appeared in some classics - Hombre - never bettered.
  16. PM me if interested - got a six point locking safe. Single key - 4 gun in my garage. £60 no offers. Bolton area, but will meet halfway.
  17. They are all ****. Don't waste your money.
  18. SWillington are decent people. Take it back and explain. You were off to Swillington at 12.19pm and posted again at 7.58pm - what did Swillington say? I would have been back to them before posting on here.
  19. Malcolm Carr's Scotch Beef butchers in Bolton - they make their own. My favourites are the Tunisian - blow your socks off. The Italian are also excellent. Makes his own burgers - lamb and mint - excellent - pork and apple - excellent - chilli burgers - see Tunisian sausage - warm and brilliant.
  20. Detach the forend - wave the barrels about. Any play in the barrel / action joint shows up at this point. You can actually feel if there is any play. Next remove the barrels. Look down the barrels very carefully - from either end. Any marks - ask them to clean them until no marks remain. Any marks - walk away. Check for any dents in the barrel - if any - walk away. If there are cracks in the stock - walk away. Any cracks in the forend - not as serious, but I would walk away. You can always pick one up without a crack. Unless you are prepared to buy a secondhand forend - up to £100 or secondhand stock - up to £200 - walk away. If these are okay - you normally won't go far wrong.
  21. You can get better choke carriers for less. I have used these - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-BERETTA-WINCHEST...id=p3286.c0.m14
  22. It's up to you. If you race, you have access to medical help - not always brilliant - and instant access to phone for an ambulance. If you are on a local field - make sure you take someone. Motocross is a very hard game.
