  1. I'm in Oldham, Manchester. He/we are are willing to travel but ideally not to far. The last shoot we were on was in East Riding Yorkshire so was nearly 2 hours which is why we dropped out in favour of a closer one then couldn't get on that one after being told we were. Thanks.
  2. I'm well aware it's not law as stated in my post. My gripe is some shooters talk like they have a God given right to have a gun and act like they will do what they want till they are forced by law to do otherwise. My point was quite simple and to me seems common sense. Ring the police out of courtesy, Surely better dialogue between shooters and the police can only strengthen the relationship between us all and help our sport. Maybe I was brought up with a bit more respect and courtesy than some ! I'm sure there are a lot of shooters who don't need to ring the police because their land doesn't have any houses, paths or interfering people ringing the police for no reason so this doesn't really apply to them. Also I did say just my opinion. Not fact.
  3. Lol. I've just re read it and it does seem I want someone to beat my boss, which is NOT the case.
  4. My favourite comment on here is 'making a rod for your own back' if you ring the police every time. One or maybe two minutes to ring them and saves armed response coming out to you. Shows the shooting community are having better dialogue with police and can save time and money on one hand by not having armed response and the local helicopter out. Or on the other hand the 'it's not law so I'm not doing it brigade' aren't helping anybody in the grand scheme of things. My personal opinion is that if the police are trusting me with firearms and allowing me to participate in a sport that I love it's a very small sacrifice that I think is worth doing for the benefit of shooters and police. Although I see my guns and licence as a privilege rather than some who see it as their 'right'. Each to there own but clear dialogue with the police can only be beneficial to the shooting community. 5. Excuse my ignorance but I thought they fell under the same category. I thought beating was a term used in general for the non shooting part be it, flushing, beating or picking up depending on what type of shoot it is. Either way if I word it so he would like to work his dog in any way that is beneficial to the shoot it would be appreciated thanks. ATB 425
  6. Evening all, my boss who introduced me to shooting, countersigned my application and has let me install my cabinet at his house has asked me to help out getting some shooting/beating. We were set to join a local shoot but the 2 people who left at the last minute came back so have been left high and dry. As a thanks for all he's done for me I've said I'll try to get us out this season (thought I'd sorted it) we're happy to pay for any odd days that pop up or if someone on a syndicate can't make a day one or both of us can fill in. The main reason we're desperate to get out is he derives so much pleasures from working his drakes head Labrador and thinks this or maybe next season will be the dogs last chance to enjoy the days out. I think he would prefer beating to shooting, doesn't want anything in return for it except the pleasure of working his dog. If anybody has any days or space for beaters around the manchester or north west area it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading. ATB 425
  7. I always call them first, you don't have to legally but it's just common sense. I've had a phone call or two back from the police and it's saved time of them coming out or me having to walk all the way back to the car park to explain what's going on. It takes two mins, tell them my name and where I'm shooting and what I'm shooting. They give you a reference number then when you've finished you call them quoting it and that's it. Saves any hassle and avoids any unnecessary scenarios happening. Some say ' I don't have to so I'm not going to' then wonder why the police turn up. If they get a call they have to investigate it. Common sense always prevails Hope this helps. ATB 425
  8. I've got a mossberg pump I use for the geese. Cheap, reliable and never let me down. ATB 425
  9. I have and couldn't believe how it obliterated the veyron. It looked cartoon fast. If I had a spare 44k it would be going on one. ATB 425
  10. I looked at a h2r in a local Kawasaki shop in Rochdale. £44,000. 320 ish bhp and mental performance. I want one. ATB 426
  11. I use a mossberg 600 3 shot pump action. Bought off here for £175. Cheap, reliable and has never missed a beat. Loves 3" 36's no1. ATB 425
  12. Sounds like the best day ever to me !
  13. Well done EW. Top gentleman. ATB 425
  14. Maybe I took your questions the wrong way, using a .410 or any weapon is fine as long as it's a kill that doesn't cause excessive suffering. If a .410 Works for you then that's great. ATB 425
  15. If you RE-READ MY POST AND HIGHTLIGHT WHERE I SAID 'INHUMANE' as you repeated twice when asking if in my opinion I thought using a 20g or 32g was INHUMANE. I'll save you time, I didn't. I said ' I was advised not to use clay loads and 32g' it says, I was ADVISED, nowhere does it say INHUMANE. Also the only logical reason I can think you mention 20g is because I said 'if you have to use a big load in a 12g, surely a air rifle would not be suitable. I was using the example of if you use a shotgun with a decent load with the killing power it has a much lesser powered gun wouldn't be suitable. I'm not sure how you read what I said and came up with your rhetorical questions leading for an argument because you've tried to twist what I've said. Also I always said in my opinion, I NEVER SAID IT WAS FACT, and finally to answer your question I've shot less than 20 geese so by most standards in a novice. But having shot 20 more than the OP I thought my experience my be of relevance.
  16. Just my 2 pence worth, I have geese on my permission and I was advised to use a HEAVY load cartridge as they are very tough. I use gamebore mammoth 36g no.1's super steel. I was told don't use clay loads and don't use 32g. YOU COULD use a lighter shell but to me a clean kill is vital. I'm really not sure how you could use a air rifle for geese. My opinion is that unless you get a clean headshot every time which I think is unreasonable to expect I wouldn't dream of using such an underpowered gun for a very large bird. If you have to use a big shell in a 12g, surely an air rifle would not be suitable in any way. Just my opinion. ATB 425
  17. I had one removed on my back at the doctors and removed 7 myself. The first time I was picking away at it and once you break the skin I kept picking and managed to remove it. I did the same with the following 6 down my left side of my chest/ribs. I'm not advising people to do it as I was told not to but it worked for me. Now skin tag free
  18. £80 in Manchester. Super boring but £20 cheaper than the fine and no points.
  19. I recently bought one of these off a member on here. Postage was only £16 using collect my parcel. Just encase anyone thought shipping might be too expensive as an option.
  20. Ive got a 425 and the kind people at hodnet let me borrow a 725 for 50 clays. Stunning looking, feels so well balanced. I absolutely loved the swelled palm grip, it just felt so comfortable in my shoulder and I shot the first 9/10 clays i attempted. 3 inch chamber and stunning woodwork for a grade 1 that I used. What's not to like. I think new you can pick them up for £1600 ish if you haggle or ring around. Just my opinion but hope it helps. ATB 425
  21. . That's the one, i thought they were hard to get hold of. Great bit of kit. Thanks Steve
  22. . I'm pretty sure I've seen a 'fly gun'. I think it was on a programme called rude tube a while ago. It fires a blast of air so kills the flies without leaving a mess. unfortunately I think there hard to get hold of though. It would be great fun for around the house in the summer months. You could even set a hide up and some decoys.
  23. If your just after a bit of plinking is there no indoor/outside ranges you could join in your local area ? Good luck anyway. ATB 425
