  1. I like eley firsts on the clays, they are usually what I use. Saying that, went and bought some gamebore velocity earlier after using some on Monday, they don't leave much of a mess in your barrels and is soooooo much easier to clean the fouling away
  2. Initially happy with them, but, as others have said, loads of runners. Gone right off them
  3. Peaky blinders. Brilliant series on Netflix about a gang in Birmingham 1920's. First series is definitely on there, not too sure about the second but I think they are making the third soon. Brilliant watch
  4. My old mans a farrier, semi retired mind. Next time I see him I'll ask him to keep you some if you like and send them your way
  5. I like to cook lamb breast really slow. Give it a good colour in a hot pan, then put it in a pot with some roughly chopped veg, add some red wine and beef stock, cover and put in a low oven and cook until it's falling apart. Put it in a sieve and catch the cooking liquor, and reduce it on a high heat until it is thick and syrup like. Add the meat back into the reduced liquor and enjoy. At the pub I serve it with some gnocchi made with our own potatoes, some garlic cream and some roasted root vegetables, makes a nifty little starter for the colder months, quite rich but delicious
  6. Veg oil is brilliant for deep frying. Just make sure you keep an eye on the oil temperature. When a cube of bread dropped into the oil goes golden brown in 10 to 15 seconds it's ready, any hotter and the coating will burn whilst the pheasant is still raw in the centre. Place the pheasant breasts or pieces of pheasant in a bowl covered with milk or buttermilk for a day or two in the fridge, this will help tenderise the meat, and remove the bitterness if it has been hung too long.
  7. I'm afraid not, Saturday is a no go for me as I work all day. If there are any on a Sunday though I could make it
  8. Last time I cleaned mine after shooting I noticed the exact same thing, actually I think it was after shooting at valley view with you. Gave it a good scrub with the bronze brush and eventually it all came off, but it took time and a lot of effort lol
  9. I done alright with shooting related gifts this year. My mum bought me a slab of dark storm for the pheasants in January, a new pair of Mac wet gloves as I trashed the other pair, and a years subscription to shooting times. My other half bought me a lovely brown leather gun slip and matching cartridge bag. Also a limited edition 007 spectre belvedere vodka, which is currently getting smashed in at the moment with some grapefruit, whilst watching ****ty Boxing Day tele. Back To work tomorrow though.
  10. Ok great, I'll let you know when in off up there. Won't be for a while though as Christmas is here, working like a dog at the moment
  11. Went and shot at Valley View today in great Missenden, I think they are having a shoot 26th December and also one in the second week of January. I really enjoyed it, 100 bird sporting layout in a large wood, makes a change from the usual grounds I shoot at, ended up shooting 77 which I was pretty chuffed with considering I'd never shot there before. On my phone so not sure where you are though.
  12. +1 on biggest cabinet you can get your hands on. Always had big cabinets, when I moved to my new house I thought I'd only put a 3 gun cabinet in "as will only have one shotgun". Said that 7 months ago and it's already full.
  13. I've got a Hatsan escort Luxano, and I ******* hate it lol
  14. I shoot at A1 quite a bit, well I did up until recently until my coach bakerboy (above) told me on Sunday that I don't need him lol. So I'm going to have a look at some other grounds a bit further afield. You tried Fennes?
  15. Hi mate, I'm just up the road in buntingford. Where do you shoot clays?

    Casinos

Not a big gambler apart from a day at Royal Ascot every year. But around Christmas every year, myself and work colleagues get down to mossimans, have a fantastic meal and plenty of booze, then straight down to Park Tower casino to finish the night off. Don't know why I bother really as I always come out regretting it, but it seems a good laugh at the time!
  17. Yes it is South African. It's bloody delicious, I'm going to have a bottle tonight I think
  18. No worries. Just had a look on my wine racks and stumbled across a bottle of wine called chocolate block. Last year it was my favourite wine and I bought a case or two if I remember correctly, and I think that will work wonders with roast venison. It has underlying chocolatey notes and honestly is a great wine. Think waitrose still stock it, but failing that have a look in majestic wines. It's a bit of a pain to get hold of as its only made in limited quantities but majestic should be able to order it in for you at around £20-£25 I think
  19. If cost was no option id pair it with a heavy chateau Margaux segla, absolutely fantastic wine but as always it does come at a cost. I pair venison, and quite a bit of game for that matter with an Italian red. A decent borolo is fatastic with venison, goes with pheasant well too.
  20. The venison we serve in the restaurant usually gets shot for us by some extremely generous farmers who gives us a whole beast for free. I put it back on the menu last week due to a request from a local, so had to buy it in from our meat supplier, and a whole saddle cost £80. I wouldn't want to buy any red meat from a supermarket, let alone venison, as it is all a disgusting bright red colour, it hasn't been butchered properly, there is no decent marbling, no flavour and it's always vacuum packed in its own blood that absolutely stinks when the packet is opened after being sat in a moody supermarket fridge for a week or more.
  21. To be honest Terry anything over my head will do lol. It will all get missed behind on the day anyway lol
