  1. I shot there several years ago ..., pheasants am, partridges pm. The mornings were great, every drive a picture, and some wonderful birds. The afternoons were depressing ... just looking into the valley they would be driven over and my exact thoughts were "you're having a laugh". This was towards the end of the season, and they genuinely looked like sparrows going over. I fired very few shells on those drives, and wouldn't do that part again.
  2. A local shoot claims to have some of the highest partridge drives in uk, sure it will be there or there abouts but not sure exactly how high they are. Would that be Drumlanrig?
  3. Some good eating there Ollie ... one of my favourites. Woodcock can ghost through the trees in real life, let alone on a camera, so I reckon you did a great job to capture the footage you did. Loved it when you found the one you'd thought was in the river ... no-one likes losing a bird, especially a prize like a Woodcock, so no wonder you were chuffed!
  4. Clucking bell! That's massive.
  5. If you're stood there with the dead bird ... you're single pellet argument looks great. If you're relying on that single pellet at 50+ yards (or any range), I would say that you are relying on luck. In this case, for me ... when I put the gun in the right place, I want maths on my side.
  6. No, 12g 32" 692 with 3/4 extended chokes in each barrel. The yellow shells you saw were 35g RC's .....
  7. Folks, was fortunate enough to get this day at the end of last season .... just hacked a few clips together to get a feel of the action. The highest birds by far were on the second drive (The Oaks, not shown) where I'd got my camera pointing too low ... ended up not shooting at a lot as I thought they were out of range. The GoPro struggles with the action so far away, so it's not the best watch for detail ........ but you'll get the idea. https://youtu.be/0n5ZhBVE1ng
  8. Video soon to be posted of a day at Brigands at the end of last season ...... some decent high ones there !!
  9. 34 to 36g of 4's are what I use on the really tall stuff ..... any much more than that then I get beaten up too much.
  10. I reckon I would try it at 33 grains with a good Gaep finish ..... I do not expect I'd want any more!
  11. I have some head cam footage I can edit and post from a day earlier in the year at Brigands if anyone is interested?
  12. If it fits, and you like it .... it would be a low risk purchase.
  13. A chap I know does quite a bit with David. Often now just sitting on his stick waiting for the right bird ... studying the line, and placing his 53g of 3's in just the right spot.
  14. Looks like a really good day ....... the slo-mo is great as way of re-enforcing what a good sight picture was like, and learning what went wrong. Not sure if your gun is a multi-choke but IC in both barrels would be ideal for that type of shooting. I will get that picture to you by the end of the week .....
  15. Smartwool work well for me .....
  16. Hevi-shot ....... Jesus .... do you need to let air traffic control know when you're going out?!
  17. Nice ...... What do you feed them ... ?
  18. You'll have seen that I didn't swing through the line, and waited till the hare had left the circle before mounting and shooting safely ... but I can see your point that from that angle it appears I was too close when mounting.
  19. Rather you than me picking those stinky things up !! Well done none the less
  20. Many thanks for the comments folks ... The 8 is nothing to look at, which is good news as it can get covered in cr*p sometimes. I was using ITM 3's in the 1st one, BBB steel in the second. My father started me shooting when I was 11, and even though he can't get about now like I can, it's great to be able to share with him what I get up to .... and show our guests on bonfire night where the Goose Chilli meat was sourced !
