  1. As figgy said, shoot it while its under a bit of power and at a comfortable distance where you have a reasonable pattern. The closer it is although tempting mean you are shooting a very smaller pattern at it.

    Scam

I got 3 tax refunds this morning. Nice, just when you could do with a bit of cash after christmas
  3. I taught carpentry and joinery at my local tech, it was a farce. It was all about getting everyone a pass grade. one exercise I failed a young lad because what he had made was a fantastic piece of joinery but it was the wrong height and width so in my eyes was no use. The head of the department told me to give him a B for it as it was so good. My arguments about if it was someones front door and it was too short and too wide then he wouldn't get paid fell on deak ears All the college is interested in is passes. They get their funding from passes not failures. My apprenticeship was 5 years of day release and was bloody hard work, not a few months taking photo's and putting a portfolio of someone elses work together. The CITB have dumbed it right down and are producing sub standard tradesmen quickly.
  4. I think you know where I mean then? Large Park estate near tiptree?
  5. no website I'm afraid. It is Essex Shooting Supplies at Easthorpe near Colchester 01206 330324
  6. I din't, what i said was ......................... Oh **** it I can't be ***** with you anymore. You are determined to fight and i can't be bothered
  7. You obviously have trouble reading and just want to pick a fight. I have said time and time again that we made our feeling clear to the keeper of the shoot we went on that we would not be shooting ducks with lead. and also that the police would not be interested. It is not a class thing, although i get no pleasure from shooting game anymore. It is a adhering to the law thing. But that one speeding motorist could kill someone, which is worse than lead being banned. But it's OK, why should you do anything about it? I'm at fault for not running to the police about ducks being shot with lead yet you are prepared to ignore a speeding motorist
  8. Not at all, I am only trying to make the point that lead will be finished if the ban is not adhered to. It wouldn't bother me and yes I am alright Jack, however I would not want to see lead banned. I reload and make my own shot so it would mean having to buy more steel shot than I do. Nothing, but as I said do you report everyone who speeds past you? If someone wants to break the speed limit and gets caught is that my issue? Should I have phoned the police with his registration? The police would not be interested in ducks being shot with lead, i would doubt very much if I could find one who knew what I was talking about. Let alone one prepared to do anything about it.
  9. the keeper who told us not to worry was certainly made aware that none of us would be shooting ducks with lead. Sleeper for class war? Not with you. I merely mentioned that if the lead shot ban wasn't adhered to then it would be the death of lead full stop and that I had been on game shoots where lead is not required. You lot jumped down my throat with every excuse under the sun.
  10. Of course, I knew it all along it would be my fault. How dare anyone accuse the stuffed tweed brigade of any wrong doing. It must be lovely to be on the moral high ground all the time.
  11. Stewards of Bisley are located down that way somewhere. i think it is more Bristol way but they know all about shooting glasses
  12. Of course, they were all imported from shoots abroad who only ***** birds, no one in this country would ever do anything wrong. Game dealers aren't going to bite the hand that feeds them? No, it's up to you to ensure your guns are capable to use whatever ammunition you are required to. The poor ducks don't know what they are being shot with. it's the people who ignore the law who will be the eventual death of lead. The english law is stupid. The scottish way should be adopted here. At present I can't shoot a duck with lead but on the same peg I can shoot a pheasant. The shot ends up in the same place regardless of quarry.
  13. So the statistics that 70% of ducks shot that went to game dealers were shot with lead means nothing? Wildfowlers rarely if ever send their birds to dealers. If they do then they aren't proper fowlers in my book. Inform the media? Are you completely stupid? That would be like driving to the police station after a skinful of beer. As far as I am concerned if people want to break the law then its up to them. When lead is banned, and yes it will happen it won't make any difference to me. All my guns are steel proofed and I can use whatever I like. All the shooters whio have been flouting the law because they are too tight to buy bismuth yet won't use steel through their pair of Hollands will be crying about their old english guns. Of course the police will react to a motoring offence, the motorist is, and always will be easy prey for the old bill. Now a game shoot where the rich and famous go they aren't even going to enter the gate. They make a range, but due to CIP rules they cannot sell them in the UK
  14. Then it's not really worth explaining to you then is it?
  15. reported it to who? the police won't be interested. Defra aren't going to be bothered. Do you report everyone you see speeding? or jumping a red light? Maybe even someone as blatant as to park on a double yellow line? Nope thought not.
  16. https://basc.org.uk/lead/basc-statement-on-lead-shot/ Although Swift has a different opinion which is why we should never apologise to the hypocrite https://markavery.info/2016/07/26/guest-blog-john-swift-chair-lead-ammunition-group/
  17. Not john Swift no, but as far as I am aware there was never a recomendation to ban lead altogether. I'm certain if there was the government would never have voted against it. I know BASC's stance was without scientific evidence they were strongly opposed to any kind of further restrictions. Yes, but its up to them. Personally I use non toxic wherever I have to. If other people don't then it's their look out. I am not the police, I can voice my opinion which as anyone who knows me will tell you I'm not afraid to do but as for stopping them shooting? No I cannot.
  18. What powder are you after? My local RFD near colchester has a good stock
  19. What can I do? It's up to them what they do. i abide by the law and use non toxic where I have to. And many places where I don't.
  20. This is from personal experience, I am a wildfowler first and foremost and on several game shoots I have been on there has been duck drives and all guns were told not to worry about non toxic and use whatever they have brought. One estate near me that shoot 1000's of ducks never insist on it. But yes you are quite right it could be a wildfowler ignoring the ban, I'm sure it does happen.
  21. Really? I don't recall there ever being a recomendation from the LAG to ban lead shot. I thought it was exactly the opposite. However this cannot be stressed highly enough that if the current lead ban is largely ignored by an awful lot of game shoots around the country then it WILL happen. In Denmark there is a total lead ban and they have adapted and use steel for nearly everything. Gamebore do quite a range of steel shot cartridges sold there (in fibre shot cups) but they cannot be sold here due to the ridiculous CIP regulations
  22. if only it was that easy. The shoot I help run has been fibre only for at least 10 years yet every month someone shoots plastic. We have had to resort to standing at the gate and checking everyone's cartridges. It's ridiculous but if thats what it takes to ensure we can shoot on the ground then thats what has to be done
  23. Although I haven't used plastic wads for years the best way i have found of removing it was Sweet's 7.62 solvent. It is quite strong and ammonia based so it stinks and must not be left on for more than about 10 minutes. I used to soak a PB brush in it, scrub the barrels for a few strokes and then leave for a few minutes. Then swab it out with patches around a jag. Repeat if necessary but 9/10 time it won't be
