Nowt wrong with sleeved barrels to restore a gun to be a good shooter. I have owned and used one for nearly twenty years in the past. Unfortunately, “the market” will not pay sensible money for them and a sleever will always fetch less than original or new barrels. On the other hand, this means bargains for anyone wanting a sound gun with a new lease of life.

Restocked Shotgun - Does it affect the value?

Pictures? We need pictures...........please. -
At last! People who know the difference between a POW and a semi pistol grip. I get really tired of seeing (dealers) adverts describing a semi as a POW. They should be made to learn such things before being allowed to deal in guns.

@ Buze I have used sxs for nearly sixty years, in fact, I only own double triggered sxs guns. I have two with half pistol stocks, both four tens as it happens and using those or someone else’s gun with anything but a straight stock is when I realise that I actually slide my hand. It is maybe only a quarter of an inch. Never aware that my hand moves with a straight stock but it obviously does. I can’t understand what you mean by “the gun still shaking from the recoil”. I am never aware of any recoil.
-
Surely everyone uses double triggers by sliding their hand very slightly for the back trigger? It must be nearly impossible to do otherwise. I can tell I move my hand for the second shot if I have to use a gun with a half pistol grip, as the grip is in the way.

A 1mm ten ring is a bit optimistic at 50yards........well, it is for me.

I can only remember shooting one deer and one antelope from a prone position in the last thirty-odd years and certainly never a rabbit with the rim fire. Like Capt. Jones I would be struggling to getup again now.

An American PW member posted recently, “since when was a crow not about to predate.” I can’t find the post to quote, but likewise when was a wood pigeon not about to eat barley/wheat/peas/brussels/whatever? Even if it/they are eating chickweed today then tomorrow they will be eating crops because that is what they do. I don’t see a problem with pre-emptive control.
-
But it has stopped eating barley now.

My son in law had one. It was a very accurate pistol. He always shot it one handed “target” style, not two handed “combat” style.

The Winchester mod 23 seems to be well thought of and sought after. A friend of mine has had one since 1979 and won’t part with it. I have to say that personally, they are not for me. Most of them ( not yours I see) have beaver tail fore-ends and pistol grip stocks. Add single trigger and a barrel selector and, for me, that pretty much completes the list of what a sxs should not have. But that’s just me.

Personally, I would be pleased if the mot tester found something I did not know about. After all, it’s my neck he may have saved.
-
The problem is many do no maintenance between mot’s. some even think the mot IS maintenance. Last time I had an mot failure was 1979. All checked before leaving home. Brake light switch failed on the way to mot station.

Joe Neville’s shooting school, Tansley near Matlock. Joe is an England team coach and a typical Derbyshire farmer.

Absolutely wonderful! So glad I’ve seen those pictures. Thanks for posting.

This is in no way aimed at guzzicat’s post above, but, whilst we are on the subject, I have always regarded the mot as being just about the minimum standard to be just about fit to be allowed on the road.

I think the 16 is a perfect compromise. I don’t own one but it’s not ruled out if the right one cam along.

Totally agree, Gunman.

Well done, Sir, glad to hear that. Proud of you.

Running deer with dogs is a pretty low thing to do. just my opinion.

My missus sez I always walk about dressed like a scarecrow.

Many dogs have visited the vets through catching Muntjac. The buck’s canine teeth are dangerous in a fight.

You obviously have no appreciation of quality and craftsmanship! However, you are not alone, many people love their Baikals. And I do realise that not everyone wants or can afford anything different.. I have shot regularly for the last 35 years with a local farmer who uses nothing else. His gun lives on his tractor, is never cleaned even if wet through and when knackered he simply buys another one.

ITS NOT A GAME! it’s bl**dy serious!

It is very beautiful, but (for me) I’ll take the Blanch @ GBS any day. Gorgeous!
