  1. I asked the Browning/Miroku rep about the High Pheasant 12 bore a while back and he said it was 36mm drop at comb - too high for me. I would say it’s highly likely that the 20 bore is similar. If you ask a gun smith (as opposed to a standard gun shop), they will measure the drop for you.
  2. Fiocchi and RC have done well in the UK. I suppose there will be local differences - but near me there is a big Fiocchi presence.
  3. Hi Minky, You make some interesting points. Certainly things have changed a lot since the more casual country use of guns was so prevalent. And yes, kids definitely stay glued to their screens as much as they can. However, I find that if they are offered a bash at clays (easy ones) with a little 410, and they start hitting and smiling, they really want to return. The main problem is that their parents or wider family rarely have any shooting contacts as a ‘way in’. Once given some decent coaching they are willing to give up their screens…..at least for a short while……🙂 On the wider subject of ‘is it inevitable?’ I don’t think the complete demise of shooting is at all inevitable. Further restrictions yes, more cost yes, but essentially nothing to completely stop what we do. My main concern, is not that shooting will stop, but that it becomes less affordable for new starters on a tight budget.
  4. Hopefully a lot more responded - but didn’t report…?! In the bigger picture, the greens have a foothold in Scotland. Who knows for how long re the current SNP turmoil, but they are currently causing havoc.
  5. Thanks for that Gerry78! Useful info - I’m actually thinking about buying one of these for clays.
  6. Wonder if the problem is caused by initial manufacturing grease/debris being left in the barrels…? I know these can be stubborn on other gun parts.
  7. This is all very curious. I can honestly say - re all the guns I’ve used or owned - I have never had a problem with persistent barrel fouling. My two penneth (and it is only a guess), is that the barrels may not have been cleaned properly with a brush for a while. A friend of mine, who shoots clays at least once a week, didn’t clean his Browning 525 for about 2 years. Another friend eventually cleaned it for him. Apparently, there was a lot of stubborn stuff to shift, but it was fine afterwards.
  8. I like these Gamebore Evo a lot. Have been using 24 gram fibre 8s. Marvellous little things. I know everyone’s impression is different, but they seem pretty quick to me.
  9. How about giving Bywell a ring? Kelbrook? Don’t bother with Braidwood - nice shooting ground but are winding down gun sales with very few guns left.
  10. Hi Derby Angler, Has it been sorted out? I’m hoping you mean its OK for your friend.
  11. I don’t honestly understand what you mean there wymberley. However I would like to make this point. I can’t quite believe that there’s been so much reaction over the term ‘bunny hugger’ - which I regard as a rather comical term and definitely not overtly offensive. However, since this has clearly offended some, I apologise.
  12. And buffoon isn’t an offensive low insult…..at all..?! If people are so desperately offended by the term ‘bunny hugger’ then they’ve had a highly successful humour bypass. We can see clearly who the real mudslingers are now. Must have overlooked your invitation by the way.
  13. Yes, they are a member of the public, however they are not ‘the public’. As stated, the general public don’t know what the heck PW is. That’s a very kind offer - well done! I hope hantsrob accepts.
  14. As already pointed out (!!) - the general public aren’t even aware that PW exists - and ‘bunny hugger’ is hardly a gross insult. I think you’re being a little over sensitive….. about a discussion you weren’t even involved with. Are you having a bit of a quiet Saturday?
  15. Says you…!!! Bunny hugger is a comical euphemism - not a base insult - and by the way I haven’t got time to explain the massive benefits of game habitat management, the resulting biodiversity and benefits to the public good etc. etc. I’m not here to write blumin’ essays.
  16. I wasn’t prepared to go back tracking through all the posts to find out if you’ve completed the form - well done for completing it! I disagree that we will loose ‘public support’ as you say, by taking a firm stance, on a live quarry shooting forum. The vast majority of the public don’t even know PW exists. I don’t know what you hope to gain by quoting an old response of mine to hantsrob by the way. I’m sure he more than capable of putting his own case and has done - we have reached an understanding. That is what debate is all about.
  17. Those which followed 12gauge82’s quote from 12/04/2023 at 11:44. Not sure there is any real benefit in too much belly button gazing. I think we just need as many forms completed as possible.
  18. Exactly - my personal opinion is that it was pointless rant. The matter has been resolved per subsequent posts. Have you completed the BASC form yet?
  19. The old ‘shot string effect’ myth keeps getting recycled. I read a Shooting Times article a couple of years ago, in which the author told us that if you move your gun fast enough, it spreads the shot string… ?! He went on to explain how a pheasant flies through the shot string etc. Even despite the shot string effect being debunked by ballisticians from Winchester and Eley decades ago, the myth still has its allure. I’m sure my 18 gram 410 cart’s must have a long column. However it doesn’t concern me in the slightest, as there isn’t any ‘effect’, except that of a falling pigeon…… if I do my job properly……🙂. Interesting video - thanks for posting Stonepark.
  20. I am bound to assume you were anti support - as you essentially said you were. I am also free to express my opinions and don’t appreciate your assumptions based on lack of knowledge. Don’t expect much sympathy on a live quarry shooting forum, if you basically disagree with what we do. The title of the thread should indicate the task importance. ‘Debate discussion and learning’, as you put it, is an unwelcome distraction from the urgent intended purpose here. I do however applaud you for filling in the form per guidelines - many thanks!
  21. They clearly don’t understand that you can get it done quickly for less than half the price.
