  1. I know what you're going through mate, we had to have my wife's Labrador Tilly put to sleep on Christmas day, I really didn't realise how deep under the skin she was until she wasn't there.
  2. No the Lightning is fixed wing. Was at RAF Hendon museum a few weeks ago & they have one on display, it's a very purposeful looking machine.
  3. Only go picking up on 1 estate, bottom of my drive, cross the lane & you're on it.
  4. Trouble with these pond creatures is they will just call themselves something else & continue stirring.
  5. Yes but where I go picking up we are given a huge lunch the same as the guns + a huge pudding and as much ale as you want. After shovelling it all down all I want to do is go to sleep!
  6. So is what I do at the moment i.e. a small amount of their regular food & water at lunch time still the best thing to give them? Thanks for all the replies.
  7. Thanks for the answers so far. Just to clarify I have her son as No.2 spaniel & I make him do the majority of the days work (picking up) much to his mother's disgust as she is very much the alpha dog of the pack (we also have a non working Labrador) I only use her for easy, fairly short retrieves, anything running or in thick cover is her son's job. At present I give them a light snack of their regular food at lunchtime but I want to give her something that will be of more benefit to her without filling her stomach. She is a fit as they come and as active as any 10yr old could be, I wish I was in as good shape!
  8. My No.1 springer is 10 & I think she would benefit from some sort of energy boost at lunchtime during a shoot day. Does anyone know of any manufactured drink or should I just give her a Mars bar?
  9. It is not a ticket as would be issued by a local authority, it is an invoice, ignore it and everything else they send, they will give up eventually.
  10. Was told not to buy a s/a when I 1st got my fac but I had to find out the hard way & then got a CZ b/a which is still in the cabinet many years later.
  11. If it's been installed as badly as it sounds it will probably fill their house with fumes & suffocate them. I have one in our bungalow & the flue extends about 1.6m above the roof.
  12. If you want tough google a bloke called Ewart Grogan, the first man to walk from Cape to Cairo http://www.travelafricamag.com/index2.php?option=com_content&do_pdf=1&id=145 And best of all he did it to impress a gurl!
  13. The April edition dropped through my door today & on the front page is the story of Natural England's prosecution of Farndale Estate for allegedly damaging a SSSI, their in house ecologist Justine Clarke gave evidence that pheasants scratching & pecking had caused a huge oak tree to fall. Just what planet are these people from? Pheasants knocking down a soddin' great oak??? http://content.yudu.com/Library/A1rmin/ModernGamekeepingApr/resources/index.htm?referrerUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yudu.com%2Fitem%2Fdetails%2F310474%2FModern-Gamekeeping-April-2011
  14. Ah nice one, as it happens I have an old builders agg bag, I'll try it.
  15. Save your money, if it's going to a dealer and has been standing for that long I would ask them to get it running & then estimate what else needs doing for Mot purposes. Valve clearances won't make any difference if the carbs are blocked with crystallized fuel.
  16. When working in various main motorcycle dealers I have seen many customers get on their new & shiny steeds only to spoon them within yards, the record was approx 15 feet, that being the distance needed to get from the shop door to the road. The record for a write off was 125 yards, shop to nearest roundabout.
  17. Stolen a few weeks ago (again) The Mule is broken down. That sled thingy looks something like what I had in mind, thanks. Oh and immediately after I shot it I did think how am I going to get it out, I didn't expect to see any Fallow so hadn't made plans :-(
  18. What is the best gadget to make large deer carcass extraction easier? I was thinking about some sort of rigid plastic sheet with a curved front edge that could be dragged along. I had to shift a large Fallow doe several hundred yards last weekend and am still hurting!
  19. Does anyone know where I can get hold of a Sankey trailer in the south? It's a mate's 50th & he's a landrover nut so a few of us are going to get one for him. Thanks. Mike.
  20. At the self service checkout in my local Tesco's last week the auto thingamy announced "store approval required" when I scanned 2 bags of dog food! Why?
  21. But the proper ones are black powder and make a better bang & cloud of smoke!
  22. Except that biology is science, religion is a 2000 year old fairy story
