Great minds think alike Ditchman. I built myself a 2wt nymphing rod using my patented banana box whipping jig. I also jammed a fly tying thread bobbin through the side of the box to hold the whipping thread under tension - it worked a treat.

I’ve just made up a couple of first aid kits which are smaller than the ones I have in my hill walking rucksacks. One of them will be going in my shooting bag. For me personally, I don’t think I need to be able to cover every medical eventuality such as splinting a leg or having a bespoke sling. My main focus is being able to deal with a big bleed and then having some gauze/plasters etc for patching up minor cuts until I can get somewhere to deal with/have them dealt with properly. I also carry some simple analgesia, based on the knowledge that if you do turn or break an ankle out in the woods/moors,/hills with the best will in the world it’s going to be at least an hour until medical attention gets to you. In the interim, a combination of paracetamol and brufen will take the edge off. Also, if you are remote and the ambulance service request assistance from the local mountain or fell rescue team, if the MR team get to you first, they can give stronger pain relief but they are limited to the doseage they can administer, however it works really well in conjunction with the paracetamol and brufen as a ‘holy trinity’. On top of those two drugs, I also, and reccomend my friend to, have some aspirin. I’m sure a lot of us are ‘of a certain age’ and being able to chew on aspirin at the onset of getting chest pains could literally be a life saver. I think I paid about a quid for a pack of each of all three in Morrison’s last week - I reckon they are definitely worth the expense! On the celox front, if you are considering buying some, take a look at the gauze strips over the granules, you have the ability to pack it exactly where you want, but also, in a strong wind of sideways rain, it’s much easier to administer/use than the granules. Like a true sad sack, I vacuum packed my new kits to keep them waterproof and compact - I have to say, vacuum packing random stuff is really satisfying - I might have to make some more up 😀

DIY whelping box 1200mmx1200mmx500mm. Made by myself and used for just the one litter. It’s in good condition - just don’t look too closely if you are a time served joiner 😀. It’s got a slide in insert panel to keep the pups in when they become mobile and the 50mmx50mm pig rail worked really well with my cocker and her 6 pups. I’ve also got a piece of Lino which is the footprint of the box, I’m happy to throw that in too if you need it. Where are you based? I'm near Settle North Yorks and if you are anywhere reasonably close you'd be more than welcome to use my bench drill rather than spend money you don't need to. If you're not near me then maybe the PW massive has someone near to you who could help?

Just be careful leaving your Bradley unattended. This was my mates smoker a few weeks back - we think one of the pucks caught fire and flared up in the cook chamber.

Hafod my apologies, I’ve only just noticed your question. I have a char broil electric smoker but for cold smoking such as the salmon, I use the smoker as a cabinet so to speak and just place a pro q cold smoke generator inside it - there’s a pic of the generator a few posts up. I looked at the Bradley’s - they are a great piece of kit but the tight Yorkshireman in me was put off by the briquettes cost.

Looks superb mate! Did you bury it in salt only or did you use a salt & nitrate/nitrite cure? You get attached to the legs when they’re drying don’t you - it’s like having another child to look after 😀

I drive a pioneer 4 seater - absolutely fantastic bit of kit.

I don’t have direct experience of the quadrzilla, but I do drive a SBS quite a lot and on some pretty challenging terrain. I was genuinely surprised how well it performs in 2wd off road. If I may make a suggestion, if you went for one of these, I personally, I’d hold back on putting a winch on it until.you’ve see how it performs on your ground - you ,any well be pleasantly surprised and able to save yourself a few quid.

Good curry goat is superb. Goat meat in general really tasty, braised leg with butter beans and chorizo is to die for. I recall talking to the owner of the farm we get our goat meat from and she was saying that she was always glad when people bought goat for the first time, but was often disappointed that it was usually for curry goat and not a recipe that let the meat flavour speak for,itself.

You're not hijacking at all mate - it's nice to know other people have a similar mind set. And a lovely gesture RE helping Mel out. Mel, you've been reprieved. After a couple of phone calls with a friend last night, both he and his mum would both like a pup so now they are all spoken for. I'm really relieved that all are going to friends or family of friends too. Thanks for the interest. And Mel, if you find yourself up this neck of the woods, I'm sure our new pup Dolly, would be more than happy to go for a wander with you and a gun.

We had always planned on having a litter when mum got to 6 years old, I must admit that we did get a bit of flack from a couple of people about 'jumping on the covid bandwagon' but it was just the way the timing worked out. I must admit - he does look a little bit grumpy in that pic - must be having a bad day 😀

Hi, yes it’s just boys only now.

We had a litter of 6 x working cocker pups on June 14th 3 x golden & 3 x chocolate. Both mum and dad are good working stock and mum is also a lovely family pet with a beautiful nature. The main reason for having a litter was because mum is such a nice natured dog I wanted to carry her line on with one of her pups for myself. They are all KC registered - just waiting for the paperwork to come through. The pups are all legally docked and will be vaccinated (1st shot) and microchipped by the time they are ready to leave home on or after August 9th. We've currently got 2 x golden dogs and 1 x chocolate dog looking for a new home. All of the pups are currently still with mum and are being socialised in a family home with other pets and kids. I’ve just come to a similar arrangement. I’ve just had my cocker bitch mated with a stud dog and we’ve agreed the price of a pup for the fee. However, the owner did say that he wanted to wait until my bitch had whelped as if she only had a couple of pups he didn’t feel it would be fair to take the whole fee - I couldn’t see fairer than that.

There's some cracking looking food there mate! Could I ask what is it that you've used for the food grating/grill in the offset cook chamber. I'm looking to make something similar and have been looking at different grill options - yours looks spot on.

Good call mate. I like to try and have a go at new projects but after I costed up the flue, register plate, building regs and how long it would take me to install, it worked out far more cost effective, and in my eyes logical, to get someone in. I used a local chimney sweep firm and they did an excellent job in probably 1/4 of the time it would’ve taken me to do.

Just reiterating what ditchy says - you need to really look,at your house insurance. If you do it under the radar of building regs and hetas certificates, you could be scuopered if you need to make a claim for something fire related down the line.

I’ve let these breasts dry out a little more than I would have liked - completely lost track of time. But, they are absolutely delicious, like rich prosciutto with a sweet aftertaste of duck fat. Definitely worth a try as they are incredibly easy to do.
