    Funeral

    +1. It's a funeral.
  2. I'd recomment Steiners. I've a couple of pairs of the 'no need to focus' variety, Firebirds 8 x 30s and love them. Good compromise for me in terms of magnification and size.
  3. I love my T3. Accurate and nice to use. I don't like the Rem 700s I've used - agricultural in comparison, IMHO. But at the target end, doubt there's much in it.
  4. Where you may have the biggest issue is bringing it back. If you're flying you have a dilemma. Packing an expensive scope in your hold luggage (if you have any) means that it's at risk of theft and if you bring it on board as hand baggage, you've something else you need to consider. I was flying from Gatwick on an internal flight a few years ago with a scope as hand baggage. It was picked up at the security scan and they weren't going to let me carry it on board. "We don't want people taking parts of a gun on board and assembling it to make a functioning gun". I tried all the obvious arguments and when I produced my FAC, they thought I was a cop! The FAC finally won the day for me but I wouldn't try it again! They did confirm that it was the FAC that persuaded them. Nonsense of course but that's the risk one runs when dealing with security people who know nothing about shooting!
  5. My wife has just come back from buying 5.5lb of leg of lamb at a butchers and it cost her £30. My comment was not repeatable.
  6. All the game fairs are what I would call expensive. But there are still huge queues to get in so if plenty of people are prepared to pay that sort of money, the organisers can keep the prices at the sort of level.
  7. Was thinking that myself. May take him up some weekend to visit as many grounds as we can and see exactly where they're located. He certainly can't have a car AND shoot!! Mind you, getting him a car would probably be a lot cheaper than the cost of the 250-500 clays that he's going through every week!!!
  8. Great to see so much choice and recommendations! Thanks folks.
  9. My lad is going to the University of Derby next year and is keen to continue his sporting clay shooting. What are the main clay grounds near Derby, particularly ones that can be reached without his own transport? And it would be really handy if it could be possible that they could 'store' his shotgun as well, at least when he gets to know them and 'fits in'. Grounds that have a 'club' atmosphere and are keen to encourage juniors would be perfect. Any comments relating to Sporting Clay Grounds near Derby welcome! Thanks in advance.
  10. Hi Gents Thanks for the replies. Sorry I've a bit late in responding, few work issues got in the way. My local shop seems to be a 'Browning specialist' with very little choice in Berettas, in fact no 682s at all. So will be looking at gun trader and gun star. Thanks again.
  11. I'm looking for one of these for my lad and there seems to be quite a variation in the wood quality. Is this just normal variation in a natural product or are these shotguns sold with different 'Grades' of wood in a similar way to Brownings. I don't see any mention of grades when looking at ads or in shops. There seem to be quite a few S/H examples at the £1500-1650 price bracket, is there anything with these that one should be particularly careful about? Thanks.
  12. Was shooting 2 of them at the club last night and their owners love them! One hole groups at 50m with both of them.
  13. Nice toy but at best they're only useful for getting you close to zero. The change in zero when cleaning/removing stock, removing and refitting a scope which has already been zeroed for that rifle, is less than these devices can help with. I just bore sight (using eyeball looking up bore) when fitting a new scope and it then it only takes a few shots to get zeroed after that.
  14. I've had a company iPhone 5 since Nov to replace a Blackberry for a 'pilot' trial. I rarely had a dropped call with my Blackberry. I now frequently get a dropped call with the iPhone and believe as a phone and for email, the Blackberry is significantly superior.
  15. I'll get a bit more shooting over the holidays so will note carefully if it occurs with the first barrel. All points noted, thanks. Happy Christmas to you all.
  16. Thanks chaps. Sorry I'm not been back for a while due to Christmas travel! Strugggling now to remember, but at least one, if not most of the misfired shots were with the first barrel.
  17. I was shooting with my lad at the weekend using my Browning GP Sporter. We both shot around 100 cartridges. I had 4 misfires, probably 'light strikes', and he had none. (All 4 cartridges shot OK at the second attempt.) Is it sheer coincidence that I had all 4 misfires and he had none, or is there any way it was due to me (I'm also a very infrequent shotgun shooter)? Can't imagine it could be due to the user but intrigued enough to ask the question! Thanks in advance.
  18. I have one as well but one of the chaps over on the BBS, who is a locksmith, doesn't rate the thiefproofness of these 'cheap' safes. IIRC, you're talking over £150 for a 'rated' one. But, as long as it's out of the way and not easily spotted, guess it's a good idea. My FEO was certainly happy with it and it will deter the casual thief if he spots it. Nothing of course will stop a determined thief!
  19. I've used a 140 for years and it works well. However, my pref now is for a scope mounted LED - the (slight) disadvantage being that when a red filter is used, more light is 'lost' since the LED light is much cooler than tungsten light so more is filtered out.
  20. Open your cabinet door and give it a good shake/shove/pull to check the wall bolts are secure. Sometimes they can 'loosen' after the intital fitting.
