2bangs
Would agree wth the Paj 2.8 diesel or Trooper, I've had dsco's for years and wouldn't touch one that's selling in that price range (unless you know exactly what you're looking for and are prepared to do some work). Jesse James
I second the Mits Pajero 2.8 diesel.... Just got one my self and used it for the last few days shooting, no issues here and got the Insurance from the Pajero club £260 fully comp. go to the club and join for free and get a quote for there insurance there also. I went for the 2.8 SWB Auto Diesel winter pack version. Also Car Tax is cheaper its £100 for six months Site is very helpful too with newbie questions etc..... here is link to site... http://www.pocuk.com/ Cheers and good luck with what ever you get

Hewey
Nissan Terrano or Ford Maverick, Should be able to get a good one for a grand, bought mine 18 months ago for £1350 with only 48k on the clock, went straight through last MOT, and off road is very good indeed. (and I had 3 discovery's previously)
senna916
300TDi Disco got mine for £500 had boot floor and some welding done, on road for under a grand, incuding getting Mot'd and tax. Also got my daughter one for £750 which had 7 months tax on it, only needed a small amout of welding for Mot. Most spare parts are cheap and available on a well known auction site. COACH
I`v had most over the years but by a mile it has to be my present 2800 TDI Pajero, swb. The power is unbelievable. It spends half it`s life off road and has never been stuck. It`s so comfortable you could live in it. Insurance is £200 fully comp for me (51 years old with full no claims) through Pajero Owners Club. It`s gone through 5 MOTs without a thing wrong. I took it out today to see just how good it is in some serious snow and it blew me away. I took it up over the steepest tarmac hill in the area which was unconquered in the snow as it had a good 7 inches of snow on it and it went up it without even starting to spin, FANTASTIC. Came back down the hill in decent gear and it didn`t even begin to slide, don`t have to touch the brakes or throttle. The down side is that is is a bit juicy at 25mph on a run 22 mph round town.
