Chard
Clay meets quite often happen on an area basis, but it seems hard to organise one for the whole country. It seems difficult to get everyone together for a social do. Some clay shooters will only travel long range to shoot an important competition, but will only be interested in social meets if they're local. The ones who aren't bothered about shooting competitions don't seem to want to drive long range, with odd exceptions. We tried to organise a North v South meet up at a half way point last year, but made the mistake of coinciding with a fairly major competition. Some wanted to shoot it properly, some just wanted a laugh and there was a bit of falling out and the meet didn't happen, though several of us, both from North and South did the drive and shot the comp seriously. But it dropped from about 30 interested shooters to about ten or a dozen. I enjoyed it, but it was quite a serious do, so wouldn't have suited everybody There will be a lot of PW chaps at the Essex Masters in April this year, people come from all over to shoot that one, but again, it's a serious do. It's so expensive to enter, you wouldn't want to ponce about

joeainscow
I know i'm still a newbie but i'd definitely be up for a shoot. Would it not be best to do a regional or even county one first then if they're popular try it on a bigger scale? Joe

Cranfield
What usually happens is an area within a reasonable travelling distance is selected, a decent well placed Clay Ground is found and then a post made inviting all those that are interested to select a date. It works most of the time.

We made the mistake of making it sound like a social bash and a laugh, then picking a prestigious event in the competition clays calendar to hold it at We had people interested who had completely different agendas, so it didn't work out. Catamong
Is that High Harthay..?? Yes, a very accessible ground, run by friendly people, right by the A1 / A14 intersection, but targets are not up to much, a flat field on a slope with a hedge in it, a good ground for a knockaround, but not much more. Cat.
dick darstardly
Thats the one. Like you say midge is a good guy and im sure more challanging targets could be organised. Hes an accomodating bloke but your right it would just be a get together and a bit of a joll

SSS
I would be interested if it was just a laugh and a few beers afterwards, I can't be done with people taking these sorts of things too seriously, proper competition shooting is different. That has to be taken seriously

shaun4860
Its actually quite easy.... get one person to check out a venue thats suitable and near enough, find out if they can accommodate you, and find out prices. put up a post with a date and prices and wanting to know who will be coming. explain that its a FUN day and its not to be taken seriously. then sit back and wait..... go on you know you want to..... shaun
