mpk
Hi, Got my first semi auto last week just wanted to know what the best cleaning method is . Just gun cleaner bronze brush ,patch, then oily patch then clean patch to soak any excess?. Do i realy need to strip right down because i dont feel totally confident in doing so. Will it damage or stop my gun cycling properly if i dont strip it write down or is there a way of cleaning all the bits with out taking down to the bare minimum?? All advice appreciated cheers guys
Imperfection
How much i strip mine down to depends on how many cartridges i've stuck through it and also what type as some are dirtier than others. If i've shot 100+ then i give it full strip.Generally i get it down to basic parts, spray it all with WD40,allow to soak for 10 minutes while have a coffee then clean. One very useful piece of advice i was given though was clean the gas vents last.Initially i found when you swab the barrel-it pushes solvent and muck into the vents which then can stop it cycling so poke a piece of wire etc through afterwards. logstove
If it is a remmy don't use WD40 as the solvent attacks the o ring seal on the magazine causing failure of the reloading cycle.

I agree with that in fact I would say that unless your gun gets absolutely soaked keep WD40 for what it's intended for and that's not a shotgun lubricant or cleaner. Dekers
I love my semi but I hate the cleaning, it can easily take an hour to clean it properly, much more if you have had a really good session!! It is far more important to clean these properly that any other type! And when you have finished scrubbing and got rid of all the burnt on crud, don't overdo the oiling, just a very light covering on all the moving bits! Might help if you say what semi Hi guys its a winchester 1400 and i use napier cleaning stuff its cool as it has that corrosion inhibitor in it to . It looks a bit duanting to take it appart but i spose they were made to be taken apart so cant be to difficult. Just hoped that i could get to most of the bits withpout stripping it totally down . The joys (but defo worth it i love it !!)
Ean76
When I had my semi I used to dread cleaning it but once I got going I really enjoyed it. Kind of satisfying dismantling it then cleaning each part thoroughly then putting it back together. Ideal if ever there was a problem when using it as you're so familiar with each part that it is a piece of cake to sort out. As said though, do the ports again with wire/pipe cleaners when the barrels have been passed through and cleaned. Oh and always carry a spare O ring cos if it goes you can't use the gun at all! Happy shooting folks

humperdingle
Get the manual here: http://stevespages.com/pdf/winchester_1400_winchester.pdf Looks pretty straightforward.
Dekers
Bore snake Will only clean the barrel, and not very well either, there is a heck of a lot more to clean on a semi to keep it working!!

Breastman
Top tip; Sell the Winchester and get a Benelli : No gas parts to clean, just bore snake the barrel and a few drops of any kind of oil or grease on the bolt runners and you're good to go! Guest shalfordninja
If you can find them, pipe cleaners are really good as their cone shapped and you dont have to put anything other than that in the gas port. It worked a treat on my Escort. Something else I found that works really well is Synthetic Engine oil. Use the thinnest grade you can find, its much cheaper than gun oil, about £12.00 for a litre bottle and works better than any gun oil I've used. You have to strip and clean more often as being thinner it doesnt stay on as long, I enjoy cleaning my semi anyway so its no hardship. My Bennelli used to play up cycling 26gsm loads untill I started using it, it now cycles them fine.

Mark Thats the truth right there I was about to post the same thing mate I rarely clean my M2 & when I do it only takes 10 minutes, no more filthy gas pistons, blocked gas ports, fouled magazine tubes & crud built up inside the handguard. Still some people might like getting dirty, have fun ! N
