utectok
Just read the invoice the checked the outdoor timer on the light and replaced the bulb mmmm not quite good value I think might ring and complain. What you think ?
malkiserow
What exactly does the invoice say? £80 for a light bulb or was most of the cost a callout? Either way .....Very expensive ...........................think about a call to Trading Standards
Imperfection
I would imagine the bulb was around £5 and the rest was made up of call out charge & vat. Quite expensive-call em'!
malkiserow
I've had 2 call outs last week for gas engineers 1 was £40 and spent 2 hours and the other £45 and spent 3.5 hours ...... Was very happy with that

Cranfield
Annoying I know, but most of the Yellow Pages type Tradesmen have a minimum call out charge and its usually between £50 - £75. Its usually best to check what their charges are before calling them out. I know thats not the sort of things that Mums think about.
utectok
What annoys me is she just paid the firm 1.5k to paint her flat you'd think they would cut her a little slack?

inthedark
Its easy to say tell them to stick it up their ****, but I'm getting the feeling she lives on her own? If she's near to me I'd be happy to help her get a reasonable deal.

digger
Was your mum happy to pay? Was it an "in hours" call or in the evening? Did she pay under duress or as others have alluded to were the charges clearly explained? It all matters if you get to court
