majordisorder
So I've had a couple of lessons on the skeet now and have started hitting a few more than before. So thinking about "training" for the Norf v Saff (as I don't want to get the wooden spoon) I'm progressing onto ESP. I've read loads of conflicting opinions both on here, on other forums and in books about the best mix of shot sizes, from 7.5 in both to 9 in 1 and 6 in the other. Am I worrying too much or is it worth "starting out right" and carrying a variety of loads for different birds? Finally will I notice any real difference in shooting budget carts like Eley Firsts v VIPs? TIA Pete
utectok
Stickwith your eley firsts 7.5 for everything (21gms lite is my choice ) mind you when you consistently hit 98% you might want to get fussy about your carts but by then you'll probably be shooting your sponsers carts lol ! ANDYMCkay
i use the Eley first 7.5 24 gms too and cant fault them .
chefdon50
I generally use a 28g sporting or eley first. General muzzle velocity at 1450ft/sec is norm and I doubt if yo wil want to worry until you ar at lea 90%

RC45
i use the Eley first 7.5 24 gms too and cant fault them . Nice cart. I use Eley first when i'm skint and Eley vip when I can afford them. I also have to use 28's when I use the semi, as it won't cycle anything below 28. DSPUK
Yep Another for Eley Firsts in 7.5s - just bought another 2K - I also use fixed half choke at everything including skeet and still put occasional 25x25 in. Dave

Catamong
I don't use Eley First's, but I won a few last year and decided to try them out at the Horne CPC, and I've got to say I was very impressed with the quality of the kills through my 1/4 & 3/8 chokes, they are certainly a superb shell for the money, my advice would be to use No 8 shot in plaswad, they obviously throw a lovely pattern. Paddy Galore!
i dont do a lot of clay shooting but i did try eley olympics in #8 and got on quite well, i think it's best to just stick with one cartridge tho.

Mr_Logic
Started out with 28/8 Eley firsts. They shot OK, got used to them and discovered I couldn't find them locally and can't be ***** to mail order for a basic cartridge. Since i've also sold the semi auto and gone o/u, I shoot ESP with 24/7.5 Intercomps, and they work well. I shoot skeet with 21/9 Comp-X, and they also work very well. Little recoil and the clays are powdering so I can't argue!!
George1990
I'd reccomend avoiding Lyevale English Sporters in Fibre wad, as they kick so much that by the time the lead has come out it pointing in the sky. They're very good in plastic wad though. I use them in 28g 7.5. About the same price as Eley Firsts
