RichPWRR
Having just baught a CZ452 Varmint, i thought it would be a good idea to buy lots of different types of ammo to find which my gun likes best. One of the types was the Eley HP subs which everyone seems to rave about. During zeroing and testing i found that i was getting a lot of duds / misfires with the Eley rounds . Is this likely to just be a bad batch or has anyone else found this problem?
wymberley
Hi, It could just be a bad batch and don't be afraid to take them back from whence they came. However, it is somewhat unusual. Even if you have the cylinders, you wont know which is which, so as it's a new gun and before you return the ammo, try pooping off a few more and compare the firing pin strikes for those that fired and those that didn't. If the "dents" are consistant, then back they go. If not, look hard at the rifle. Cheers
ace32
like above, its a new gun so put a few dif rounds through her, mine loves win subs,ok with eley, and cant stand any of them cci ****,so dont be buying many of them,so just compare the dud rate from dif makes,if you getting duds on all make,s it might be a fireing pin issue, try cleaning the bolt off with some wd40 or similar, could just be makers ****,still on the bolt assembly,ok,apart from that the cz,s are one of the most robust, dependable, useable toys you can buy,put thousands of round s through mine, only bother i had was the cci ****,going off when cocking the rifle, hard to load, acuracy all over the place, total ****,poss ok in the older brno models, oki doki, ian
MC
I shoot 1000's of Eley Match when target shooting and recently have had lots of misfires. I sent some rounds back to Eley and got a typical response that it was my rifle and there is nothing wrong with their ammunition despite one round in particular being loaded and fired 12 times in two different rifles. I have had my Anschutz bolt rebuilt with new firing pin and mainsprings but still get the occasional one. I use Winchester Super X subs in my Ruger and it loves them. hyflier
Never once had a misfire with Eley subs................... Now watch me have to eat those words but so far they've been brilliant, reliable and accurate shot after shot and would recommend them over anything Eley standard, now thats a different story: Loaded for the armed forces, misfire after misfire after misfire
allthegearandnoidea
I've had quite a few misfires with eley subs lately in my anchutz, they have always fired when I tried them a second time though.
onlyme
never had a problem with eley subs and they have been great in my cz varmint! but the price has just been hiked around here so keeping my superduper accurate eley subs safe for a rainy day and testing if the rifle goes off at some point as a standard test, been using winnie subs which are a close second in accuracy stakes but definately top in the expansion stakes ! they do hit them hard for such a slow little round.. as for misfires, like has been said check the firing pin for consitant strikes and rotate the misfired round in the bolt so it strikes a different place and retry , if there are a lot of duff rounds, take them back without any hesitation. RichPWRR
Thanks for all the advice guys. Having looked around for different RFDs in the area to get different ammo from I have come across the Eley sub Hollow Extra Plus rounds and realised that they were different to the bog standard Eley sub Hollows that i had bought previously. I have bought a couple of boxes so will let you know if it makes any difference. " the price has just been hiked around here so keeping my superduper accurate eley subs safe for a rainy day and testing if the rifle goes off at some point as a standard test, been using winnie subs which are a close second in accuracy stakes but definitely top in the expansion stakes" Onlyme, just out of interest, how much are your eley subs now. I have just paid £4.60 for 50 which i thought was quite steep, but the winnies cost £5.99 which is ridiculous. Thanks again Rich
Zapp
I must have been really lucky because I have only ever had one dodgy Eley Sub, which seemed to have no propellant and only a live primer. It made a wierd "plonk" noise when it fired and landed about 20m short of the target, which was at 75m. My backup are RWS subs. It really comes down to what you trust and what your rifle likes. mikee
I had a similar problem when i bought my new cz, it turned out that the shop had sent the wrong bolt, when it was replaced no more problems, I have found that eley's cycle better through mine, the win subs must be a couple of thou longer and regularly catch on the top edge of the chamber which bends the case slightly and they get stuck in the chamber so I dont use then any more mikee
