Serves him right.... why would anyone in this day and age want to hunt a beautiful creature like that

because you can and in certain areas they eat both the locals and their cattle. So either the shooting rights get let out and the animals become a valuable comodity or they all get wiped out by the locals by poisoning, snaring or shooting. Shooting and conservation go very much hand in hand and with big game it is no different at all.

Well I hope his guide got a decent tip because his mates didn't stick around did they?!

In the right situations I feel it's ok to hunt these animals. Only if they're causing a problem though. I wouldn't want to do it myself but each to their own.

At first i thought the same, why bother to shoot it,i dont think the locals needed the big white hunter to come and save him from a nasty goat eating lepoard.I'm sure they have been dealing them all these years, but then if it brings in some revenue to them whats wrong with that. But does the money get down to the locals? Is there any evidence the money does do any good and get to where its needed i get the impression you could throw all the money in the world at Africa and sod all would change.Never been to Africa so could be totaly wrong,I'm sure i will be corrected.

These animals are not hunted for food, nor for crop or livestock protection, they are hunted by (usually) americans or other wealthy westerners who pay $50,000 plus for the privilage!! These are the same ****.holes who shoot Giraffe and other such animals, not because Giraffe do any damage or cause any problems but so they can say "I shot one" and stick it's stuffed head on their trophy room wall.... we are 100 years past that...

Before anyone calls me a hypocrite, I eat most of what I shoot and will only shoot an animal if there is a need. Whether I enjoy the sport or not I would never just shoot an animal for the fun of it!

I agree, I went to zambia a couple of years ago, and my tiger fishing guide used to be a hunting guide but gave it up do to how he couldn't take any more killing by rich americans, these guys came over with a list of what they wanted to kill from a giraffe, hippo, crocodile , lion elephant ,from a boat ,helicopter on foot.

The reason he finally gave up was because he took out this american, a beautiful bull elephant came for a drink from the river this guy wanted to kill it but unknown to the guide, he had hardly ever shot a rifle let alone the cal needed to take down an animal of this side, first shot hit the rear of the elephant wounding it the second midrift , the guide had to then track the animal to put it out of its misery, all this ****** said was how he was going to tell his mates how he shot an elephant in his case wound it!!

I asked out of interest how much that cost the fee for that was $50,000 he had spent nearly $250,000 on his two week holiday .

They should not allow this any more as it is hardly sporting, what they should allow is for these tossers to hunt the ivory poachers who like them kill animals in their hundreds .

I'm no anti but once you have been and seen these amazing animals which are now in major decline you would agree.

you get a lot of ignorance on here at times and big game hunting is up there with the best topics for the keyboard warriors to spout rubbish.

The facts are hunting helps these kind of animals, they have no predator other than man and the locals obviously don't like things that can eat them. The big carnivores are a bit different to other game as they aren't eaten but its not a lot different to us shooting foxes, and you see how many people prodly photograph their trophies to post up on here.

To have a population of them healthy eough to hunt you have to look after the natural population and that is fact, all the areas where they hunt clamp down on poachers hard and the numbers taken are pretty carefully controlled. With elephants and the likes you'll find protection in the parks has helped them out too well and they are causing a real problem as they will deforest the whole area at which point it will just turn into desert. When they get an elephant shot you'll find a whole local village turns out to harvest the meat. So you have a rich yank paying a bucket load into the local economy and the locals getting a feed out of it doesn't get much more sustainable to me

Yep they were germans, you will hear a few more scream like girls over the weekend :good:

I didn't hear many germans screaming like girls yesterday :) .

I am much along the lines that these animals can be shot in the right situations. I am not gonna be a hypocrite and say what people can and can't shoot. For instance I shoot a lot of snipe and woodcock; if anyone saw me shooting these little birds they may say what is the point. At the end of the day it is each to their own. At least the leopard went down fighting :) .
