fortune82
I have had a sxs .410 in the cabinet for a few years and just used it for very close range rabbits. Tonight I took it out for a wander along some hedges with 2.5" no.6 Eley Fourlong cartridges. I fired 12 cartridges and killed 7 Woodies! All clean kills. I was impressed with the effectivness at ranges up to 30 yards. Does anyone use one of these for game and if so what cartridges do you use? Devon Fox
Every Year we hold a small bore day on our shoot - max is a 28bore, I am honestly amazed by some of the birds taken, I use mag shells and suprised myself the first time I shot with a 410. You have to be sensible with shot selection but the gun will do the businness cleanly, I would have thought there would be lots of pricked birds, infact there are less - its a hit or miss. Great guns and I love shooting the 410.

clayman
When I bought my 12g cosmos the guy said the .410 ones were like hens teeth and are worth more and more so hang on to it  Its not particularly appreciated that all gauges of shotgun shell are effective at the same range for the same shot size, - if a 12g with 32g 6's kills at 30yd, so will a 410 with 16g of no 6 on a choke to keep the same pattern density. The pellet velocity and inertia is identical, the only thing there are less of is pellets in the pattern, so the lighter gauge will need to be choked down and the shooter will need to be more accurate. The bottom line is that if you put the pellets in the right place form any gauge, you will achieve the kill. 28g is a big favourite of competent shooters in the US and gaining popularity in the UK too, and the 410 will always do a good job in the right hands. libs
I shoot a .410 baikal full mod. And with 3" ( 19g I think) loads it will kill as well as a 12 if you can point it, which I sometimes can, sometimes. Great for close work around stock with the 2.5" . The 2" arn't worth a toss! humperdingle
I love shooting .410s, but i'm yet to shoot anything apart from clays with one. Still looking for another .410 for the collection!
welshwarrior
Our old shoot Captian used to carry an AYA 410 and clean up some of the missed birds behind the line. Embarssed lots of guns who missed that high bird only for him to down it cleanly with his 'little girl' as he called it.
Paul223
However i bet there no good for pigeons as you need 32 grams of shot  I love my little four-ten, she is in need of a sleeving and i can't see me using her again with the bad pitting Magman used a .410 the other week at flint clay ground, full choke pump action Jobie, from memory he hit at least 50% I know some people (long time shooters, not beginners) who struggle to hit 50% with a twelve
sheepshed
I use a Yildiz A4 Elegant sxs. Beautiful little gun and great for rabbits and squirrels with Fiocchi Magnum, 19.5g of #6.

welshwarrior
I used the Caswell blue kit http://www.caswelleurope.co.uk/Caswell%20E...0Blue%20Kit.htm that some else used in the craft and DIY section. it is really good but like all blueing it is the prep and polishing. If you look carefully you can see in daylight the odd deep rust spot that I could not sand out. On new metal and none rusted it has been great almost factory finished standard. I sanded the the rust off the action with wet and dry 600 grit then used autosol polishing paste it should mellow down shortly only finished on Thursday, got 2 bunnies with it already shoots lovely. Matt if you can't keep hold of it give the double to me
Paul223
Nice Matt, how are your barrels?, a previous owner of mine must have forgot to clean it ...... ever! the barrels are very well pitted, I've had them lapped out once so they don't look as bad but I lost confidence in them, mine is serial number 12 got any more pics may be we should start a thread 'show us your .410 porn'

One single barrel at the bottom of the pic cost me a fiver, it had been stood in some water or somthing and was looking a sorry state and the action and breech was all rusted shut. After a lot of WD40, a wire brush on a drill and some wallnut and linseed oil its as good as new, well almost! 410 porn sounds good to me. I will go out with it in the morning and take some pics after bashing a woodie or two!
wildfowler.250
Love my .410, I can shoot it quite happily on everything except geese and hare. It makes snipe testing too I use 3 inch 7's in about 17g I think.
