Just got rained on with shot

debaser has a fair point, it is unacceptable (and avoidable) to have shot falling on a house roof, or in a garden.

It may be different at a Clay Ground, or while beating, etc., but not in your garden.

The shooters need speaking to and/or the landowner informed.

agree totally, but red marks ?? ive shot birds directly above me,and hac shot rain on me from my own shots and it dont hurt or mark in the least, unless it goes in your eyes. :)

I think you should probably go and have a firm word with the shooters first and tell them to think about where the gun is pointing before they fire it.

That will probably make them think twice before they take their shot in future.

They do sound like irresponsible shooters though, you never shoot towards houses, roads etc.

Shooting is full of people like you, always stirring the **** and brownnosing whoever you can. These shooters are probably great blokes who try their very best to do everything by the book and they have made a little, easily rectifiable error yet you want to bring their world down by calling the police. Stop grassing and get real!!!

Can't you offer a comment without resulting to insults....Please explain why I'm stirring and brown nosing?

Thanks.

But there's no need to involve the police. That will not help anybody.

He didn't involve the Police, he was just asking the question.

He didn't say the mark was caused by lead shot, he just said there was a mark.

Perhaps he jumped to the conclusion because he was very annoyed (to put it politely), which would be understandable.

Because you are a shooter yourself and yet you talk like these shooters are trash. They are no different to you and i and the one thing that sends a shiver up our spines is the mention of the word 'police' yet it was the first option you wanted to explore. Solve your own problems, dont be like others and immediately cry for the unecessary intervention of the police. Also when you are on a forum expect people to speak their mind.

I can see why people are questioning the mark on my cousins back. The reason being I felt the shot land on my head and I would describe it as hard rain/light hail and it really didn't hurt, I doubt very much I have a mark on my head, but she definatly had one!

Anyway in hindsight I should have gone straight out and politely spoke to the person(s) shooting. Those of you who stated that there's no reason to get the police involved are right, hence I didn't.

Anyway I think there's now enough on this thread, I've calmed down and learnt something for next time.

Thanks for all the replies Both positive and negative.

Cheers.

I was involved in a similar situation to this last year, we had a little private clay shoot and the shot was landing near the River, within our permission. A ghillie came storming over to talk to us and after polite diuscussion we turned the clay trap and all was well.

The angling party it turns out that were receiving the very occasional shot included a baby and a ferrari car, and that was the main reason for the complaint. Anyway, the reason i comment was that the ghillie had a tiny dot of a mark on the back of his hand caused by falling shot. it did not hurt, draw blood or anything like that it was just a tiny mark, i guess 1 in 1000 may get marked, who knows. He was a tough old ****** and had skin like leather so he may not have felt it like a mortal would have.

he was totally cool about it, a shooter himself and just wanted the shot to stop falling near his lunch party i guess. The ,mother of the baby was a bit more concerned but he rightly pointed out that the river was far more dangerous than the shooting.

Had a similar situation the other week, shot falling around where I was.

My plan speak to shooter and make them aware of where shot is falling. If an appropriate response received No further action. If abusive make them aware of legal situation and inform that if it continues Police will be informed.

Actual events: shot coming from a slightly different area than at first thought, person shooting known to me but was unaware of where his shot was falling, friendly advice given and recieved (new shooter) no further action.

I would do the same if it was to happen again.

A couple of lads in my area had their guns confiscated about 6 weeks ago while they were on a farm clay pigeon shooting,

They saw an ambulance turn around at the farm entrance next thing the police were walking up the field one policeman said that a woman had been shot down the road, told them to pack up their gear and took their guns from them while they made some enquiries. Took a few days and a few phone calls from the shooters solicitor, they had the story.Turned out the woman was a new age traveller hippie Eco warrior or whatever they call themselves thease days! apparently when she was in her back garden 250m away from the guns a pellet landed in her eye so she phoned the police and said she had been shot ambulance took her to hospital doctors did not find anything and half hour later she was shopping in Tesco, the police interviewd her next door neighbours who had been sitting in their conservatory all afternoon could hear the lads shooting but did not see or hear any shot land on their house. Lads eventually had their guns back after a couple of weeks and a few calls again from their solicitor.

Just shows some people need no excuse to stir things up.

Went outside to the field opposite, across the road and there was a car driving away.

I'm really annoyed about this.

I keep coming across irresponsible FAC and SGC holders and these people are ruining it for the rest of us.

I think I'll just have a beer and count to a hundred and try to calm down.

If sir like some of us shoot quarry over land, then u should know the score regarding this issue (go have a word with the shooters). May I ask what bad time uve experienced with an fac holder? A .243 coming through ure window perhaps or maybe .22 has hit ure car? . Ure comment of an injury caused by falling shot, this I could believe with ease if the shot was sg.,if this was the case u would know,as would the shooter. If sir ure story is true u should take it up with the shooter becase after all none of us want trouble. I put it to you sir that you're either exaggerating or overreacting....

I will second that......

I will also add, there is obviosly land behind you, and you are a shooter....Been knocked back for a permission in your back yard have you?

You have a point to a degree, but coming on a shooting forum and giving it large among the majority of us who have been around a bit just shows us you are little green.

.

I'd be more worried about the irresponsible FAC holders. Tell us more about how this is affecting you because it would be unusual to be rained down upon from a firearm.

The irresponsible FAC holder I know was telling me how he shot a muntjac with a HMR at a golf course....and no amount of advice would convince him the error of his ways. Just for info this wasn't him humanly dispatching the animal.

I haven't been knocked back on this land for permission, although it is about 50 meters from my property, across a B road for info.

So you were that upset and annoyed you decided to start a thread on a forum! :hmm:

With all due respect what are you doing complaining here, why didn't you get straight out and discuss the situation with the shooter!

ATB!! :)

I dont see he did any wrong starting a thread, he is asking the opinion of his peers, seeking their advice, generally THINKING before he acts. He seems to have got some good advice and is quite clam about it all, wanting to do the best by all.

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion, even if it may be at odds with mine, but thank you for your comment, next time I am being burgled I'll calmly email the Neighbourhood watch and ask for their opinion!
