kyska
How do we do this? An unwanted, worthless shotgun needs getting rid of, on ticket but not even worth selling, how does one go about getting rid? Kyska
libs
Call RFD, offer it on here, ring FLO?
Gobfish
I'm sure that your friendly RFD would take it off your hands (and certificate) and destroy it,...... for a small fee
fluke2
Hand it in to your local dealer most bust them for spares.
kyska
Call RFD, offer it on here, ring FLO? Yep, they are the obvious things thanks, just wondering if someone knew for certain. Its not sellable and can't even be given away. Its in a dangerous state, which can't be fixed easily and was only bought for 10's of pounds. Will the police take in unwanted guns for destruction? Shadowchaser
I would simply take it to my local RFD and see what they think. You never know it may be of value to someone.

Gobfish
What do you mean old chap, why would they like my certificate? I meant that if handed in to an RFD it can be transferred off your certificate
Zapp
Yes, RFD is the route to take.
kyska
I meant that if handed in to an RFD it can be transferred off your certificate Yea, suppose, does it take the onus of the seller if that RFD sells a dangerous gun on? kent
Cops will dispose of it take it to them. your RFD will just put it in auction bundle- if it is unsafe i would always feel edgy about someone buying it for use at said auction
Gobfish
Yea, suppose, does it take the onus of the seller if that RFD sells a dangerous gun on? If it's that bad, as some one else said they'll use it for spares/material... Once it's gone through an RFD's hands as scrap it's down to them if they tart it up and try to flog it on
Bagsy
As Zapp said, speak to your RFD, the police aren't there to dispose of unwanted firearms.
kyska
As Zapp said, speak to your RFD, the police aren't there to dispose of unwanted firearms. Thanks all. You know though, it makes perfect sense for the police to dispose of unwanted/dangerous (in context) firearms.
danddo
Had the very same thing, took it to my RFD and he took it for destruction, no charge.
HDAV
Thanks all. You know though, it makes perfect sense for the police to dispose of unwanted/dangerous (in context) firearms. IF the gun is legit and on ticket why make more work for the police? They will (i.e. tax payer) will have to pay for it to be disposed of that means secure storage until they have enough to make a trip to where ever and dispose. RFD can legitimately strip break and put beyond repair the dangerous parts, and keep the useful bits to repair other guns, springs levers etc. You need the gun removed from certificate and need a proof of tansfer I'm sure the RFD's have process for scrapping guns and no one can sell out of proof guns. RFD's can also take in anonymous hand ins... If you are worried about it getting back into circulation take it to a well respected RFD and ask to watch them deactivate it.... big bang
I took one to my local gun shop and he was glad to take it for spares .
apache
I was once told that you can hand them in to any police station and they will take it. If your RFD takes it off your hands, what they chose to do with it is none of your concern, even if it blows up in someone's face.
steve_b_wales
I handed a .22LR rifle in to a local police station, and they gave me a receipt for it. This was approx 10 years ago though, and I don't know if this would be allowed today.
Chris Bb
What about having it deactivated as a "wall hanger"?
