Axe
Set out tonight with Sussex Lad at around 7pm and arrived tooled up and ready to go at about 7:30pm. After discussing our intended plans we set out. Fox#1 Pulled up to a spot that we had picked out from Thursday's trip. I spotted a fox about 130 yards out, under a tree. Began the stalk on foot to be interupted by a passing car along the estates mile long drive. As it turns out the fox (now called big red) is very smart and played his normal game of hide and seek. Turned round to return to the Landy and spotted another out at 200 yards. Got down on the bi-pods and squeaked him over 5 minutes, to within 45-50 yards. Centred the recticle between the eyes, gently squeezed the trigger, and down he fell. A good condition dog Fox. Fox#2 Later on in the evening after driving and stalking other areas, we returned back to the same spot as the first. Used the styrene on glass call (very expensive this one ) we spotted another. Sussex Lad took out the .223 and with controlled squeaking, we called him in from 250yards down a hedge line and in to 147yards. Both on Bi-pods and looking the shot in, SL placed a perfect shot to the chest. This was truly a fine specimen of a dog Fox and the biggest of the evening. Fox#3 Back in the Landy for a few Rabbits, we climbed up and over a 50ft bank and proceeded down along the fence line to a known Rabbit spot. Charlie was sat there not more than 30yards out. We kept the lamp on him as he kept wandering in and out of the fence line, up and down and behind. About 5 mins of tracking when finally the shot presented itself. I placed the Quads scope between the eyes and down dropped the third. The smallest of the three but another clean coated dog Fox. So in two trips we have now taken 5 in total. I just hope the Estate owner appreciates the effort we have put in. Pic#1 Tonights bag 3 Fox , 3 Rabbit, my Sako Quad (left) and Sussex Lads AR-15 (right). Well done , out of intrest what do you do with the bodies at the end of the night?Gibby Gibby, unfortunately they are disposed of but I am looking into better solutions. One land owner I shoot for has mentioned a Taxidermist that would be pleased to buy them from me. As i'm using the .17HMR, it doesnt ruin the coat, so he should be quite happy with them.
