Glensman
getting new 4x4 in few months time just wondered wich is best Terrano has the best engine, actually, it's just best all-round.
Gordon R
Terrano is fine, but thirsty. 2.2 diesel Frontera - near 40mpg - quicker than Discovery, drives like a car. No experience of Forrester.
kent
Used to sell Vauxhal - they are total rubbish and off memory they came last in the first Top gear reliability survey in the early 90's! Driven a Forrester XT for nearly 8 yrs there great relability, handling and off road ability that is limited only by ground clearance the balance and traction that the symetrical 4wd system and boxer engine layout gives is something that must be experianced to believe. The terrano ? never used one
vampire
I have an old frontera that i only use for shooting and it is the best truck anyone could wish for as a shooting truck it performs well and with £400 grabbers fitted it will do all the lanes and fields round here, the power is not so good and the fuel consumption is low 20s, reg in 96 and no rust yet,if money was no limit i would go for a nissan/toyota/honda,just depends what you want it to do for you. At the cheaper end of 4x4 i would say that the frontera/trooper are hard to beat and am glad i bought mine
Gordon R
Better Fronteras are 1998 onwards. They came last in the early 90s - quite true. they improved a hell of a lot later. Much maligned, but nothing wrong with them.
Wookie
No complaints with my W plate Fronty. Good economy, good comfort, decent off-road (with the right tyres). Has low ratio for when you get really stuck.
garyb
Mine is simply superb off road. Infact.. I had it stuck last week for the 1st time in nearly 2 years of ownership... as I bottomed it out on a ditch. I think they are superb value for the money. al4x
forrester is an awsome vehicle on and off road, only downside is mpg, mine used to drink more fuel than i do beer !!! yep thats the problem with my mates one, used more fuel than my L200 which has the off road ability and load carrying ability
UKPoacher
I'm just getting 30 mpg overall from my 99 'V' 2.0 auto Forester, more on a long run, and despite what Al4x tells you it will go where no 2WD (including his mate's Golf) can go especially in this wet weather. Alycidon
Forester would be my choice as a good all round vechicle, very impressive offroad. A
