Bazooka Joe
Phoning a gunshop the other day about these Predator 8 Mods, I was surprised to here that this shop wouldn't deal in them anymore. Asking why, " cause we've had a few blown up, blew the baffles out" Any other members heard this, first for me,
EMcC
I own two, the standard model and the compact model and from how they are made I reckon anybody would have a job to blow the baffles. There are quite a few about and I'm sure if there was a problem with them it would have gone round like wildfire. I used one yesterday on my 30-06 with several different loads and bullet weights and had no problems.
Billy.
I took mine apart the other day and you'd have to set a grenade off in one of those to blow it apart. The muzzle baffles are held in place by the reflex plate, which all screws together to hold the front section together. Unless the mod had steadily unscrewed itself from the reflex plate, this is the only way I can see the baffles being blown out. However you'll find that if they're describing internal damage, you'd more than likely expect to see very little left of the end as it's all so nicely held together Edited February 17, 2011 by Billy. dicehorn
I have one. Only problem I could see that could cause a problem is that if it had baffles to take say a 22 centrefire and you decided to screw the mod onto say a 308, I'm note sure if the 308 bullet would not touch the sides - it it did then perhaps that would be bad news for the mod

I have heard of that happening before.
stokie
Sounds like someone made a mistake there. Unless the end of the mod was blocked in some way I doubt there is any way to destruct one. I have got one on my 223 and recon they are the mutts nuts. Redgum
They are extremely well made but if the wrong moderator is put on the wrong gun then the end could be blown off. This does happen as( though secondhand info) a smaller calibre Pred 8 was put on a 308, the dealer blamed Andy Banner, and Andy Banner blamed the dealer but like I say this was hear say. The Predator 8 could do with a calibre stamp on the baffle end, mine has no indication of what calibre it is ( though its always wise to check the hole dia). The parts are very interchangeable and a mix up in assembly or wrong order would be very dangerous, if you have worries on this front just strip the mod down and check orifices, easy enough to do. Bazooka Joe
Thanks for the replies The phone call was made for a shooting bud who already has a Predator 8 on his 243, in fact he was after the Compact for his other rifle, a 22-250. We both found it hard to believe what the Gunshop was saying, as we know how well made they are. This Gunshop has quite a good rep, I don't think they would stop dealing over prices etc. they were quite adamant that this had happened though, & wouldn't be supplying them in the future because of it. Billy.
Calibre mixup is the only thing I can think of. For anyone who's interested, (requests please) I'll take mine to bits just to prove how unlikely it is that one would disintegrate from just a correct size bullet. Bazooka Joe
ask him what calibre he has shot his most fox's with in one night Yup, that's the hillbilly's for ya, nowt better than using someone else's gun & showing them how to shoot it

I have the standard P8 mod on my .243 and i`m well pleased with it,but was very impressed with the compact version when i shot Magmans rifle and i,m now looking for a lighter mod for my .22 250(had a stainless Pes)very quiet but heavy. nathanhutchison
i recently had my .223 in to get screw cut and ordered a p8 at the same time, the gun was screw cut by the end of the day but as the smith only gets mods to order i expected to wait three days. a week later the mod still hadnt turned up, so the gunsmith called to see what the problem is and long story short it looks like the only people that will be supplying them in the near future will be people to already have them in stock. I came away with a PES T12 instead
al4x
my entirely unreliable shop who didn't have one in on Tuesday for the .243 I picked up have ordered one in since and its actually there so sort of casts a bit of doubt on some information
grasshopper
Just been on the phone to the gunshop and it seems that the supplier has all of the components except the baffles...seems because i want the "compact " version,i`ll have to wait. I was told that they only make them in batches, and these particular ones aren,t being made yet To be fair, they do have some full size Wildcat P-8 Mods in stock, but i want the smaller 1. So,does anyone have a shop near them who have 1 in stock please

I to find the info doubtful, maybe I should of asked a few further questions, probed a bit, & got some detailed answers. Going off Grasshoppers Mod, which he's had quite a while now, he'll have it for evermore.

Asking why, " cause we've had a few blown up, blew the baffles out" Any other members heard this, first for me, if this was the case i'm sure there would of been somekind of re-call. i've got one and highly recommend them. accidents happen i suppose. i'm sure the proof house would weed out the bad ones. henry d
Hi Alex, the gunshop was pretty adamant. Nah, he`s got it wrong ! It was not the Predator 8, it was the old style and only the lightweight one too. I know because I had one and it blew out it`s baffles at a competition I`ll try and find the pics to show you later. Dekers
I've not read all this so appologies....... I understand the Predators may have had an issue with the original incarnation some years ago. The Predator 8 is not the same animal at all, I struggle to see anything could cause an issue with them now except putting too large a bullet through too small a baffle stack! ATB!
