I love squirrels, they're agile and intelligent. If only they'd learn not to kill trees I wouldn't shoot them.

Or spread pox virus, or kill protected birds or drive reds out.....

They go in the same category as foxes for me, not a drop of remorse when dealing with these chaps.

I must admit that there do seem to be a lot more songbirds on my shoot since I've reduced the squirrel population, but my primary aim was to stop them ringing the trees.

I don't feel any remorse for shooting them, but you have to admire their agility and problem solving, also they learn quickly that man + rifle = dead brother, and they become very wary.

Hunting wary squirrels with a good air rifle is fantastic sport too.

Glad to hear your helping the dawn chorus in your part of the world! I agree they seem switched on but not in the same way rats do. I have a lot of respect for the humble smelly rat, its just a shame they are vile disease ridden vermin :/

I agree on all counts Catweazle. I'd also add crow and Magpies to the zero tolerance, shoot on sight policy.

I too have noticed the growth in songbirds in the spinneys I cull the greys in. One in particular used to be very quiet at dusk, now there's a decent chorus and greater variety in species too.

Ringbarking damage is damned annoying to see!

Another great shot GG :good:

Really sharp & fantastic D.O.F. Flat on your belly or new camera on the floor??

Hi Paul

My daughters saw him filling his face on the bird feeders.

They then got him some biscuits and launched them onto the lawn.

Patio window opened me flat on the floor with camera shot taken.

Then verbal abuse from the wife. It was worth it.:lol:

The girls have taken A4 picture of lightening to school to show their friends (bless).

Thanks for viewing.

Regards

GG :good:
